Also at this time wishes to fight Pavlik next. I have doubts about that being his best choice? Also was glad to see his fan's gave him a warm welcome and support.

Good read, thanks. This really proves that most boxing fans just want their fighter to give it all they've got win or lose. He got so much criticism because in his last few fights, even though they were against tough and sometimes awkward opposition, because he didn't seem to really be hungry for the win and seemed to just half-ass it. In the Pavlik fight, even though he lost, he "went down swinging," as he said, and he gave it everything he had and that's what people want to see and that's why he's getting so much positivity from his home state. :good

So it looks like the rematch is on after all. This will be do or die for Taylor if loses back to back loses to Pavlik it will really hurt his career.I really think he should fight a tune or two. It also looks like Steward is on his way out ,maybe the bring back Burns.:hat

That saying " If it does'nt kill you it'll make you stronger" seems to apply here. Jermain seems like a great kid and I had doubts about him coming back after the KO to Pavlik, but after reading his reaction I think he's going to be fine and continue to have a great career. Will he win the rematch? I doubt it. Also, great to read that the people of Arkansas are

In my opinion this is not the time for emotions and pride to get in the way of common sense. Have another fight and build up confidence. Learn to avoid Pavlik's jab, learn to get in and out and most of all... Keep that damn left hand up!!
I am not in the camp of those who believe Taylor could never beat Pavlik. He came to close in the second round for me to believe it is not possible.
But lets face it... The public wanted him to prove something and fight toe to toe. Well he needs to adjust his skills to win and the question is can he do it and not make the same mistakes he did in the first fight.

I really think that smart thing for Taylor career would be for him fight Pavlik down road a bit. Lets see Taylor take on Miranda in big money fight at 168 there is bad blood there it would sell big then Dennis Inkns to come number contender at 168 then lets see Taylor fight Kelly Again.:good

I admire Taylor for wanting to step right back into the ring against Pavik, but I think his chances would improve if he'd take another fight first.
I also hope he'll split with Steward. It just didn't work out. He needs to find someone who will convince him that keeping his left hand up actually is a good, fairly easy thing to do.

Good read, wonder if he'll split with Manny? Taylor's still my fav active boxer and i hope he comes back from the loss.
Pat Burns always seemed like a fantastic trainer to me. I think bringing him back might be beneficial for JT if there isn't any bad blood between them over their previous split.
Let's face it. Emanuel Steward is a legendary trainer. But for whatever reason, him working with Taylor has just not produced the results that everyone expected. I know he's fought very tough opponents in his last half dozen fights, which explain the close wins, draw, and the loss to Pavlik. But I really think that JT looked like a better fighter when he was with Burns, and listened to the advice given in the corner much more than he does now.

Taylor has the tools to beat Pavlik in a rematch. The thing I worry about with Taylor is the mental side. I thought he said the last fight would be his last at Middleweight?

I think that Taylor should take the IBF and WBA title. Then, Taylor and Pavlik should pad their records with Eric Crumbles' cousins for 10 years. After that, US fans, in one giant circle jerk, can talk about how USA has the two best fighters in the world. One day, at the end of their careers, they can spend half a decade negotiating a fight and everyone can claim that it's the most important fight ever.

What if Pavlik doesn't want to move up in weight? Does he have to anyway to fight Taylor?

Taylor is Hungry, he can beat Pavlik but should wait. Taylor should get adjusted and campaign in 168 for awhile after he accomplishes something then call out Pavlik. This could very well end up in a great trilogy all the great fighters have em.

Agreed. Then again, with Jermain's defense Miranda is no pushover.

Great article. And, there is no shame in losing to Pavlik. Ultimately a loss to Kelly on one's record will mean little except that a guy was good enough to be in the ring with him. I was one of the first guys on this board to jump on the Pavlik band wagon. I said repeatedly that he would knock Taylor out. Actually I thought Taylor would make it 10 or 11 rounds. However, he only lasted about 2 minutes longer than Bronco McKart, and 2 rounds less than Zuniga! I'm not dissing JT. I'm just saying that Pavlik knocks people the fuck out, and there isn't much that the current crop of middleweights can do about it. If the rematch does happen, Kelly will not lose his zero to Jermain. When somebody beats pavlik it will be a very slick and smart boxer with fast hands, great lateral movement, and enough power to make Pavlik respect him. If there is a rematch between Pavlik and JT. Pavlik will not get hurt. He won't pull any more dumb ass stunts like dropping his hands and sticking his chin out in response to a blatant elbow! And THAT is THE ONLY reason he got into such serious trouble in that 2nd round. Jack Leow was PISSED at Kelly about the bs in round 2! Taylor won't be the only one who studies the tape, and works to correct mistakes. In the rematch Taylor goes down in 4-6 rounds.
