I think it was out of respect in the last round that he allowed him to finish the fight.
I think he was kinda in awe at the amount of abuse he gave Faber and Faber still not giving in. I think he couldn't think of anything else he could do to finish him. So he just rode out the last minute or so. Faber may have been beaten badly but that boy sure does have some heart and is tuff as nails wow!

Yeah, my friend watching it with me opined that he wasn't playing it safe so much as just showing mercy.

Aldo still should have tried hard for a finish. Its getting sickening watching all these guys not take any risks. Im not asking for Champions to be like Garcia or Jong but damnit take a risk.

I don't think that he let him off easy. He tried to finish him when it was available. To be honest, I think that he was just playing it safe. He knew that Faber's only hope was landing one shot to turn the fight around, and Faber was still actively seeking that one punch.

Aldo carried Faber that last round. He went against his corner's instructions and stopped doing what he had done for the entire fight. He had a dead man in front of him and let him cross the finish line.

I think he resigned himself to the fact that he wouldn't finish Faber and didn't want to risk getting ko'd.
