rumor going around web circles is that dana white is gonna match James lights out Toney vs Randy the natural Coture , This is interesting because randy boxed a little in the military , and usually stands and trades , I feel toney would school him on the feet hopefully knock him out, problem randy is a awesome grecko roman wrestler , so he will seek to tie toney up , and usually he takes his opponents down , and ugh ground and pound , toney gets killed ,

Randy Couture would destroy James Toney in a UFC match.... It would not even be a fight. James should not agree to this.

I think Randy will decide to choke him out.If the fight get's signed it depends on how Toney decides to talk about it to the press. He's not one to mince words so god forbid he actually trash talks Randy. I won't be home to watch this fight but hopefully it'll come in on the Armed Forces Network so i can have a good laugh.

I dont' get Toney's reasoning behind this kind of deseperate move.
Either he's in financial trouble, or he's just got an enormous ego that needs stroking and he can't stand being out of the spotlight, and will do whatever foolish move he has to in order to get the spotlight back on him.

Dana is probably putting him in against Randy for a reason. Not so much to prove that boxers are inferior fighters to mixed martial artists...probably to fuck with Toney for trying to say he'd knock out anyone in the UFC and for stalking Dana until he gave him a contract. You get what you ask for I guess. At least he didn't put him in against Frank Mir.

Randy is older but in much better shape, and his overall fighting skills totally surpass that of a great defensive boxer, much removed from his prime. Randy could end this fight in the first round.

I don't get this either.Im sure he can make a decent dollar boxing still, why get into something he may not be so good at and may not even make as much money as he would fight some guys in the heavyweight division.

Bad fight for Toneys debut. You would have thought they would have put a striker with bad ground game for Toney to show off his boxing skills in MMA but no they throw him in with a guy with a vicious ground game for his first fight.
Toney is gonna get embarrassed.

James has no chance it will end by submission. Toney has no idea what that kind of pain feels like.

How's that for trial by fire?
If Randy is dumb enough to stand and trade, he's toast. Toney is out of shape, but has tremendous natural ability and years of training. He might not be able to hang with current elite fighters, but he can knock the dog shit out of anyone else.
I'm sure Randy will take him down, pound him in the face with elbows, then rear naked choke. Toney taps.
Its an irrelevant fight.
Kimbo would have been a better choice. He might want to stand and trade with Toney, and that would be cool to see.
Kimbo has no business in MMA anyway. He should absolutely be boxing and is dumb as a post for not doing it.

James probably knows a technique to clinch on the ground. Then the fight goes back in the air, and I see Toney catching Couture with a big shot when Couture rushes in.

Liddell didnt really use his sprawl well though. In the 1st fight Couture hit every takedown he attempted, 2nd fight he attempted none and got knocked out early in the 1st, in the 3rd fight Couture took Liddell down easily with a double and although he couldnt keep Liddell down he controlled him in a double postion agianst the fence until the round ended. Besides Liddell was a 4 year starter on his college wrestling team. Toney can train hard as he wants but will never gain the wrestling ability that Liddell has especially in just a couple of months. It took Mirko Cro Cop several years to develop a great sprawl coming out of K-1. Couture just took down Mark Coleman one of the great amateur wrestlers of his time, mounted him and choked him out. I seriously doubt a chubby Toney with no grappling skills can stop him from doing that unless he KOs before Randy closes the distance or grabs a leg.

Boxers need to stay on their feet in a fight. Wrestlers focus a lot of time and training to get an opponent off his feet and in a disadvantagous position. Toney can win if he can win a one punch fight and even for a skilled boxer a one-punch KO is rare. Couture wins it.

Spot on. Toney is not and never has been a big puncher even when he fought as low as 160/168. He is not a murderous puncher like a David Haye, prime Mike Tyson, Julian Jackson etc etc. I would be very surprised if Toney could beat Couture. Lets not forget that Toney is old and washed up as a top level boxer these days. Couture is still much closer to his good level of fighting than Toney is and Couture is the MMA fighter. It's a massive ask for Toney to even be competitive let alone think he could win.

If Toney learns good takedown defense like say Cung Le's, then he will easily beat Randy Couture. If he doesn't learn takedown defense then he wont win.

This is a complete and utter fucking mismatch and something that only an asshole promoter who is trying to run Toney out of MMA instead of build him up into be a somebody would do.
They're trying to make as much money on Toney as they can, not develop him into an mma fighter.
They pick Couture so that he can headline a PPV which always makes money, then when Couture dominates Toney they can say it's because of Couture's awesome skill and experience. That allows them to let Toney fight someone else, maybe someone in the middle of the pack at 205. When he loses that they can make the same sort of excuse. Then, in a third fight they can have him fight some beginner or washed up old fighter and then when he loses they'll release him. Starting him this high up allows a much longer time before he is recognized to be at the bottom.
Besides, who would they put him in with who would be as lousy on the ground as he certainly is? Any mma fighter good enough to make it to the UFC will be able to take Toney down and beat on him or sub him, so this route is really their only option. Cynical of DW and the rest, but a smart way to make $$$$$$.

dana white trying to cash in all his chips at once. hoping to get some sort of PPV record. Even if he does, it will be b/c a boxer was involved, not two ufc fighters. They need boxing stars to get people to actually watch their events in droves of numbers. this will be a sad sight to behold for sure. Toney will lose via ground and pound, it will be ugly, and than all MMA lovers will declare MMA>boxing. This whole thing is retarded. If they had given toney a few fights to get accustomed to mma fighting, it would be a different story, but coture right off the bat???? come the fuck on. Goes to show that dana white truly hates boxing.

Why do you think this is so crazy?
This man is an amazing athlete. He has outstanding skills in the boxing ring, has an excellent chin, is obviously fearless, and is very strong.
Why are you doubting him?
He has the ability to absolutely DOMINATE Couture on his feet, to the point to where Couture will look less than amateur.
And if he learns proper take down defense, he may be able to hold Couture back, or stifle him if it is taken to the ground, causing the ref to intervene.
You thinking that nobody can get into a sport where men who have very little experience quickly dominate, makes you look like YOU're the one on crack.

i will eat my own head. I highly doubt Toney will have the presence of mind to lumber onto Randy's back or keep him down long enough to put in an awkward submission or choke. I think he'd get pissed and struggle with Randy until he gets his guard passed and Randy starts raining punches down and the ref has to pull him off.
They should have put Toney in against Iron Head Fujita. It'd be funny as fuck watching him throw shot after shot off Fujita's dome and watch it do absolutely nothing.
