Latest update done.
Let me know what you think about Williams being ranked number 1 at Light Middle? Does a win over Phillips and pretty much a no contest mean he should be ranked ahead of Foreman?
At least the division is hotting up with Dzinzurik returning next week. Where should he go when he returns?
anything thats wrong let me know. anything you agree or disagree with post your comments.
also keep voting in the P4P

10. Chris John
Is that a new ranking?
Why people have still Cotto in top 10, he should be
at the same stage as Hatton until proved otherwise.
And why is Hopkins #3, does the win over Jones still
counts as a huge achievement in p4p rankings?
If yes then where is Danny Green on the list?

Acosta, Guzman, Kim, DeMarco, should all be ahead of him IMO and Vazquez, Antillon, Diaz and Murray all have a case as well. Obviously it won't matter if he beats Katsidis :good
Yeah I will update the Brit rankings in a couple of days (I know I said that before, but I have been busy...for once!) :good

No Ali Funeka?
Funeka has tested posative for performance enhancing drugs. Currently suspended.
If he returns after a guilty verdict his record will be 0-0 just like Margorito.

It's scary how shitty Super Featherweight is. The fact that Jason Liatzu has a good chance at winning a title and possibly even unifying shows how shitty the division.

was having this convo with Kosaros the other day. Super Feather is weak but its a competative division in the sense any fight between a top 15 guy would be at least a 60-40

If Dzinzurik wins on friday where do you think he goes on the rankings guys??
I just think he ducks the top names. could of been in the super 6 if he wanted to. not his fault but his managment. also they turned down a froch unification.
Well Froch turned down a IBF eliminator if i remember right. And how can he duck big names when he was not invited in the tourney ? He also said in interviews before Froch defeated Taylor that he is willing to fight Taylor or Hopkins in US. What do you mean he ducks top name's ? What... that he didn't called Calzaghe when he was still young and green or that he feels good at 168 and he doesn't wants to go up to fight Dawson at 175?(he'll probably fight him at 168 or 170) He wanted Pavlik Taylor Hopkins Green Stieglitz there where talks with Froch Kessler Green Stieglitz probably Pavlik to... So no he is not ducking big names.Ward Dirrell have recently became " name's " Abraham was a 160 fighter so who did he ducked ? Froch .... no he didn't they didn't agree on purse split and location if i recall right Froch wanted the fight in England Bute wanted the fight in Canada. So why all the guilt is on Bute .... Froch is as guilty as Bute that the fight didn't happened . And Froch after that join the S6

Very true. The division is very weak but it is stacked with B- level fighters from #1 to #10.

Froch didn't take the IBF eliminator because he was coming back from injury and had a high ranking with the WBC, in his eyes (not mine) a more prestigious belt.
Showtime have said that they spoke to Butes team about entering the tournament and for some reason Showtime decided not to move forward. There is only one reason why Showtime would have not put him in there and that due to stupid demands from Butes team.
The story in england is that Froch offered Bute better than 50-50 to come to the UK, where the fight would make more money and Butes team said no.
since then froch has faced 2 top 10 ranked fighters and Bute has fed of scraps, beating guys already smashed up by those in the Super 6.
By the way its not bute i have a problem with, its his promotional team who are happy to have him fight soft opponents and keep selling out the bell centre.
He can talk all he wants about fighting big names........but its still just talk until he actually does it.

Very true. The division is very weak but it is stacked with B- level fighters from #1 to #10.
what would you say is the best division.
Obviously Welterweight but theres a lack of talent outside the top 5-6. Bantamweight is pretty hot especially when you consider Darchinyan and Donaire could come up.

I'd say 147 just because of Pacquiao and Mayweather. Light Welterweight, Bantamweight and Featherweight look like big things are about to happen. Also Light Middleweight and Cruiserweight look pretty good.

Where do you think Dzinzurik should go upon his return?
119 of us so we get it right. Think theres a few who are over rated (Bute) but they will get found out soon
Yeah I agree, Bute should be the number 3 supermiddle in the world, no way he is no 1.

Well ranking him the 3 SMW is not that bad, 1 or 2 is more fair imo. I still like to call him #1 if you don't mind [Only registered and activated users can see links]

We did a vote before the Abraham vs Dirrell fight for who is the number 1 super middleweight. nobody got more than 30% of the vote between abraham, ward, froch and bute. Bute was voted number 1 thought.

couple of good fights this weekend between top 10 guys.
Krzysztof Wlodarcyk vs Giocabbe Fragomeni for the WBC Cruiserweight title, ranked 3 and 6 respectivley. Will a KO win from the pole put him ahead of Huck in 2nd???
If Khan beats Mallignaggi is that a better win that any of Alexanders, I certainly think so, does he go ahed? Khan is ranked 3rd, Mallignaggi 5th. W
Where does the winner of Campbell and Ortiz stand. Ranked 10 an 12. Does the winner of Ngougo and Diaz replace them in the top 15?
Fight of the week has to be number 2 ranked Michael Katsidis agaisnt number 11 Kevin Mitchell. A win for either puts them in line for a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez for the vacant Wolrd Title.
and theres the return of Sergey Dzinzurik tonight. He was number 1 before being removed due to inactivity. Does a win tonight put him back there???

Where do you think Dzinzurik should go upon his return?
I say go after the Cotto/ Foreman winner or any of the other title holders. Or a fight with Angulo would be great for him. He should be able to box Angulo's ears off and Angulo is popular in the US and HBO likes him so that could be a pretty good medium risk/ high reward fight.
Also fights against Williams or Martinez would be good. I'd favor him over everyone at 154 and 45-55 with Martinez and 50-50 with Williams.

3. Ward

6. Martinez
7. Donaire
8. Dawson
9. Vitali
10. Wlad
Hard to make the list after Pac and PBF. I think the p4p list is going through a period of transition and could shift around easily. Ward is unproven and people will be surprised I put him at #3 but I think he'll prove me right.

what has Barker done to be above either?
Of course rankings are subjective :deal
The simularities;
1) Both have decision wins over Afiff Belghacam. Barker may have stuggled but he caused Lee problems to.
2) Both have 6 TKO wins of Jason McKay.
3) They have almost the same number of fights, and knock outs.
The differences that mean Barker his ranked higher
1) Barker is undefeated
2) Barker has won an area and domestic title. Lee won a vacant domestic title at Super Middleweight
3) Barker has won the a continental title (Commonwealth) and defended it
4) Barker has won 6 12 Round fights, Lee has not has any
5) Barker is European champion. If you go through the rankings European and North American champions are ranked highly.
HW - Adameck (NABO)
CW - Macceranelli (EBU)
LHW - Cleverly (EBU)
SMW - Magee (EBU)
MW - Barker (EBU), Jacobs (NABO),
LMW - Rhodes (EBU) Martiroyson (NABO)
LWW - McCloskey (EBU)
LW - Murray (EBU)
SFW - Kyrakosion (EBU)
FW - Yefemichov (EBU), Perz (NABO)
SBW - Munroe (EBU)
FlW - Sarritzu (EBU)
if you can come up with 5 reasons why Andy Lee should be ranked ahead of Barker, which are about Lee's achievments and not downplaying Barkers, I will put Lee ahead.

Thanks, have swaped Powell and Latimore round.
After the marquez fight Diaz will be re-ranked at Lightweight, until then he will remain at Light Welterweight. he hasnt been at Lightweight for over a year where his last 2 fights were at 140lbs.

What's the methodology used to derive the rankings?
Rules
1) These rankings our for the fans, by the fans. They are formulated using polls, discussion and debate. The rankings must be based firstly on performance and level of opposition faced. Titles (Alphabet, Continental and domesrtic) will be used only to gague fighters potential. All opinions will be considered.
2) To be ranked fighters must have had a bout within 365 days. Fighters removed from the rankings will be re-ranked once they have boxed again depending on performance.
3) Fighters can only be ranked at one weight and will always be ranked in the last division the boxed in unless they state it's one off.
4) A fighter can become World Champion by beating the existing World Champion.
5) If a Championship is vacant in a division it can be won in a fight between the number 1 ranked fighter and another eligible fighter who will be marked in red
6)You can become an eligible fighter by;
a) Being ranked in the top 3 of your division.
b) Winning 3 fights in a row against ranked fighters
c) Winning or Drawing with another eligible fighter
7) A World Champion can lose their title by;
a) Losing a title fight
b) If a Champion consecutively fights 3 non ranked opponents they will be stripped.
c) Not defending the title within 365 days. If stripped for this reason they can regain the title by beating another eligible fighter upon there return.
8.) If a fighter is found to be cheating and suspended by a governing body they will be removed from the rankings. There record prior to the suspension will not be considered when they fight again.
9) The P4P rankings our done using a vote system. The last vote was taken in May 2010

It's still not clear to me exactly how you are coming up with your individual lists? Seems way too subjective to have any remote value whatsoever.
You say the P4P is based on a vote?
What about the rest? Are there any formulas or equations involved? Or is it someone basically reading the opinions of others and haphazardly throwing a list together based on what he perceives?
These rules are all fine and well, but they don't say how the results are ultimately determined or by whom.

theres no formula. Boxrec have shown that doesn't work. they have Danny Green number 1 at Cruiserweight FFS. He is not even top 15 with ESB.
Origionally the rankings were put together by taking a look at other places rankings, and forming our own. We used all major websites like the ring, boxrec, yahoo, espn, fightnews and so on. from there we put together top 10 and debated over it until we found something the majority would agree on.
With all major fights I will put together a poll or a thread and it will get discussed.
Take a look at these polls as an example on where to rank Darchinyan and Rafael Marquez and who is number 1 at Super Bantam after Pong and Vazquez fights recently.

After the Cotto fight I posted a thread about the light middle rankings, the main questions posed is where should Cotto be ranked and where does Foreman go down to. The majority of people say 2nd so thats where he went.
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
For minor fights I tend to make the changes myself, as you cannot run a poll for everything. However i reguarly run threads about each division and people debate over it. This one about the middleweights is going on right now so get involved. The general feeling is that Anthiny Mundine is to high.

I have attempted to put together a rankings comitee previously but people were not commited to the idea. Have you read the PM i sent you.

Admirable effort putting this together, but to be honest, I have a very difficult time taking it seriously when I see, for example, Bute ranked #1 at super middle.

thanks.
Hey, I 100% agree with that myself but as with all rankings its down to the forum members. I posted a poll before the Froch vs Kessler and Abraham vs Dirrel fight on who was number 1 at Super Middle.
The results were very close.
Bute 29%
Ward 27%
Abraham 24%
Froch 20%
Since then Froch and Abraham have both lost, Ward has not had a fight and Bute beat Edison Miranda which is effectivley meaningless but doesn't mean he should go down.
After Ward vs Green, if Ward wins, I will run a poll again asking who is number 1 Bute or Ward. The winner will go 1st place and if Ward beats the number 3 fighter in the super 6 he will become ESB World Champion.
anything else you do not agree with??

I don't think Dirrell fight is happening in Oakland a neutral venue probably vegas.
What evidence is there to show that Ward will not fight Bute? Only Bute ca be accused of ducking in the division he could have been in the super 6 if he wanted to.

Poll taken this week on who should rank higher Haye or Povetkin which Haye is winning.
You need to be inactive for a full year to be taken out of the rankings. Hayes last fight was only 3 months ago. If we removed haye due to inactivity we would also need to take out 75% of ranked fighters.

Pirog at #2 seems awfully high to me. I mean, even with a good win now, no way is his middleweight resume better than Kelly Pavlik's.
Also, does Bika deserve that big of a drop for getting DQed in a fight where he was obviously beating the crap out of the other guy?
Last, Rodrigo Guerrero also fought last week and I don't see his fight up there. Not sure his win over Catubay (or the fact that Rosas beat Nongqayi, and Guerrero beat Rosas a year ago) means he moves at all in the rankings though.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I follow the guys I think are around the top 10 from doing my weekly schedule and results posts at BLH. I still don't have a great grip of the 10 - 30 range at 105 and 112 especially.
I just noticed the Guerrero victory wasn't in your July 2010 post, so I was mentioning it. Not that it's relevant, but that win was a title eliminator, so Guerrero is mandatory for the IBF belt again and will get to rematch Rosas soon I suppose.
If anything would have caused Guerrero to move up, it's probably because Rosas beat Nongqayi and Guerrero beat Rosas; still, Guerrero got the crap beat out of him by Darchinyan a couple fights back.
I thought you said Pirog moved up to #2. I would think he'd still be behind Martinez, Sturm and Pavlik is all.

Gonzalez should probably still be at minimumweight and not light flyweight. He just took a creampuff fight a weight class up to be in front of the home crowd, but he's still keeping his title at 105.

Thought he was fighting for a 108 belt on the Nishioka-Munroe U/C

Luis Lazarte is the IBF 108 champ, not Tamara. Also Johnriel Casimero lost recently to an unranked guy, he shouldnt be there anymore. You got 16 guys ranked there as well.
Also don't agree with Pornsawan Pompamook going to 3 above Nietes at 105 because of a draw with Sithsamerchai. Nietes recent work has far more depth and good wins, including a win over Pompamook

How did a Zaveck win move him down? :huh
I don't understand how Alvorado warrants being at 7 yet Zaveck who has 2 good wins the past year is below him.

Roman Gonzalez is fighting No.3 ranked IBF Light flyweight champ october 24th so we will keep him there.
Nietes & PP have switched
Zaveck got another dodgy decision win. Both looked poor. Alvarado ahead by default.

Jackiewicz did look like shite though, considerin his win over Rodriguez was a robbery as well I couldn't really justify him being 11th.

John being ruled out due to inactivity is horse shit.
If that was PBF he will still be ranked if he had taken a year off.
Plus John still hold the WBA belt.........
I dont get it.

I dont get it.
In the rules which were agreed upon by esb posters it says;
2) To be ranked fighters must have had a bout within 365 days. Fighters removed from the rankings will be re-ranked once they have boxed again depending on performance.
Chris John last fought 19th September 2009. He has no fight scheduled....so I am a bit early in removing him but it would only happen in 10 days anyway.
Mayweather was not ranked after his 20 month lay off. If he doesn't fight again before May he will be removed.
The belt means nothing. Before being removed Chris John was ESB Champ at featherweight. He has failed to defend the belt for a year. Guilermo Jones is he cruiserweight WBA champion and he is not ranked either.

The light-flys need to be updated a bit. Kuroki challenged for the OPBF minimumweight title last time out and Milan Melindo has been fighting at flyweight for his last couple of fights. Also, Sonny Boy Jaro (should he be ranked?) is fighting at super-fly in a couple of weeks time.
