The world level guys all got old. I'm not sure I've even heard of a young Italian world level prospect lately. :huh
The last may have been Sven Paris.

The only guy I can think of is Francesco Pianeta...although he's probably Euro Level at best.
Here's a list of the top fighters in Italy according to Boxrec.

I had high hopes for 2000 Olympian Di Rocco.
Russo said he would turn pro after the '09 WC's but he still hasn't.

Roberto Cammarelle is another top amatuer who doesnt seem to want to turn pro
The big problem is that the best Italian amateurs do not need to turn pro. Obviously they make enough money staying in amateurs ranks.

Surely you'd make more money turning pro. A half decent Italian fighter could make fortune fighting in the states . I mean ok a guy like Cammarelle has a steady career in the police but a lot of these guys must surely like the idea of taking a bit of a risk for an even bigger reward .

its too bad beijing superheavy gold medalist camarelle doesn't seem to want to go pro. a 6'3" southpaw with fast hands would be a nice addition.

yeah from what i've seen of him he could make to at least European champion as a pro unless he's got a glass jaw. Although he's 30 it should be possible for a guy with that much amatuer experience to be fighting at a top level as a pro by the time he's 33 which isnt that old for modern heavy,s .

Looks like the Italians might be getting Malignaggi fighting for their Welterweight title with a view to fighting for the EBU belt.

I heard that most the Italian top amateurs including russo and dominico Valentino all have good jobs with the police or army

I've heard good things about Boschiero but I agree with you guys Cammarelle could have success if he went pro. The way he dealt with Price in the olympic semi was ruthless to say the least

That fucking pussy is the embodiment of everything wrong with amateur boxing. I love watching Chakhkiev and Romanchuk beat the shit out of him. If he ever turned pro he wouldn't amount to jack shit with his running, slapping, cowardly style.
Utter disgrace to Italians & boxing.

I like Michele di Rocco but since his loss to Lauri he is not really stepping it up. Stylewise heīs fun to watch, but my feeling is, that he is mentally not strong enough for bigger things. Hope iīm wrong though.
Best Italian at the moment imo is Brunet Zamora, but off course he is born Cuban, so some people will not count him as Italian.
I like Bundu too, but at age 35 there canīt be expected bigger things.
Maludrottu was on world level but had no chance against then divisions best Hasegawa.
I still think Maludrottu could do something, but does he has the desire for the sport after his second loss. Would love to see him against Sidorenko.

Sven Paris was a very good amateur, but as a pro he was disappointing and never on world level. Maludrottu, Sarritzu for example had much more success than him. Fragomeni too, eventhough he started his pro career very late. Domenico Spada didnīt have success in his big fights, but two times he had been robbed, against Oral and in his first fight against Zbik. At least Spada was in a big fight, Paris never has been.
