I don't think you are viewing this objectively. If you were HBO, wouldn't you want to spread these fights out by more than a week? And considering that Taylor/Pavlik has been agreed in principle (we'll see) longer than JC/MK, doesn't it make sense that their date would be more locked in?
While JC/MK is a great matchup, JT/KP is a very good one, and 160 holds more glamour than 168. I agree with you that the European fight is more significant based on Calzaghe's proven accomplishments, but it's not so silly for HBO to want separation.
hmmm... I think two excellent fights in the space of eight days creates some momentum for HBO's less glamorous fights.

It's not that easy if it's to be held in the Millennium Stadium (a much mooted venue) - the stadium hosts a Rugby World Cup Quarter Final on the 6th October so the logistics would be a bit of a nightmare (pitch problems being the major one)
Move it to Wembley Stadium!

I think you'd get a bigger gate due to Joe's popularity amongst the Welsh - London would be fine for me but if it starts raining, it'll be shit - the Millennium Stadiums retractable roof is a big factor here. I remember Lewis-Bruno at Cardiff Arms Park was a nightmare because of the rain - boxers slipping all over the place. Logistically, it would be easier for Danish fans - but all 3 of them can easily hire a car and drive to Wales anyway.

Re: Rollo: It looks like he needs to learn to read AND understand what he's reading before his education can be initiated.
He appears not to know that football, to the overwhelming majority of the world's population, is soccer. It is played with the foot or feet (unlike American football) and played with a ball (a spherically shaped object, from the definition of BALL) unlike the prolate spheroid used in American 'football'.
If he can grasp the misnomer of American 'football', we might move on to dealing with its differences from Rugby. Namely that, while American 'football' resembles Rugby in its objective and play, its players wear helmets and loads of other protective gear to minimize the roughness of the contact.
Rugby, on the other hand, is more of a man's game where the only gear is a shirt, shorts, a jock and cleats. The contact is considerably more brutal and requires a higher calibre of participant in the 'toughness' department.
Can you imagine if someone invented a form of boxing with metal helmets, faceguards , shoulder pads etc.
Conventional boxers might regard it as a game for poofs, but hey, each to his own.
I wouldn't say there's no hope for Rollo. But there's some concepts he's not yet ready to grasp.

I don't give a damn what anyone says, Kessler is a hell of a fighter. The man has speed, power, can box, and is pretty good defensively. Calzaghe is a hell of a a fighter too, but I see Kessler busting Calzaghe up in this fight. Oh yeah, Librado Andrade, Markus Beyer, Eric Lucas, Anthony Mundine, those are Kessler's last four victims. That's not bad considering SMW is not an exactly stacked division.

Fuck, sign the contracts already!
Calzaghe and Kessler (or Palle and ******), Mayweather, and Hatton should sign the damn contracts and stop cock-teasing the fans. I'm getting worried, impatient, and pissed.
Why not back to back? If anything, put Calzaghe/Kessler on PPV the 22nd and Taylor/Pavlik on regular HBO the 29th. Show the Calzaghe/Kessler replay before the Taylor/Pavlik bout.
Whatever, it doesn't matter, just get the fights signed and set for fuck's sake!

I suggest emailled HBO. They're putting up a lot of money. I must admit I'm a little disappointed with them if this is true. Cal/Kess has to be THE most difficult fight in history to arrange due to the egos of ****** and Palle, and now it looks as if,miracles of miracles, they have finally reached an agreement, and some dippitt Yank tv station says it's too close to a Taylor /Pavlik date that pussy Taylor will probably pull out of anyway!!

You have a tendency to avoid answering questions.
If you're right about Kessler, then we can't come on here and say you were right - because you'll be reminding us how we thought Kessler was before the Calzaghe-fight...
And what about the three furture champions Calzaghe beat - who are they???
As for Legacy - Kessler is one of Calzaghe best bets when it comes to legacy. The isn't any other opponent in SMW that has the level and talent of Kessler. No mater the result Kessler is going to dominate SMW after Calzaghe - wether he retires Calzaghe or has to wait for him to retire. Kessler is going to dominate the years to come - even if it turns out Calzaghe is better - nobody else comes close. Kessler has beaten number #3, #4 and #5 of the rings rankings - and done so loosing 2 rounds in total. Bute might develop into a threat other than that I don't see anyone in SMW atm.
A win over Kessler will cement his legacy - people will be saying Kessler might be the best atm, but Calzaghe beat him! (well of course we'll be saying that Kessler is now a more developed fighter, that would now beat Calzaghe - prime for prime :hey)
Faetter_BR
06-28-2007, 05:25 AM
In fairness, they said the same about Lacy. best in division, future of the sport, great american hope, mini-tyson, etc, etc,
I think Kessler, once he's lost, will go on to dominate the division while JC is either smart enough to quit with a fantastic victory or beat Hopkins silly for 12 rounds to hit 45-0. I hope he doesn't try and beat Marciano's winning streak because it's very likely he'll lose.
Legacy-wise, he needs to beat Kessler - not in terms of name recognition, but in terms of achievment. if he doesn't beat him it'll always be a black mark against all he's said about himself and if he doesn't fight him, it'll always be cast up against him how he missed a truly defining fight.
The lacy fight defined how well he can fight now, but the Kessler fight would show how well he can truly dominate.
Many people were very critic towards Lacy - even before the Calzaghe fight. In a predictions thread on the Danish boxingsite Knock-out.dk the posters there had it Calzaghe 12 and Lacy 3. Lacy was hyped because he was american - Kessler is "hyped" because of his fights. Lacy lost more rounds versus Rubin Williams!!! than Kessler has done his whole career.
That said it's still a little early to judge Lacy - his next 2-4 fights will tell us alot more.
Faetter_BR
06-28-2007, 05:46 AM
Lacy was hyped because of his impressive performances, power and ability to break down his opponents. He had wins over Pemberton, Reid, Vanderpool and Sheika leading into the and believe it or not, before Froch, Bute, Andrade, etc... before they all came up through the ranks - those were pretty much the guys you had to fight to prove yourself.
I picked Calzaghe, based on the guys handspeed, ring generalship and his outside boxing ability - when he dominated Lacy on the inside, it just showed me that Calzaghe when motivated is near unbeatable.
Kessler has less chance in my view than Lacy does, he just simply has the wrong style to deal with Calzaghe.
His win over a somewhat rusty Reid was impressive. His win over a totally shot Pemberton not that impressive. He struggled against Vanderpool (the cards were tied at the time of the stoppage). He struggled more with Sheika than Beyer did - the same Beyer you've been calling totally shot elsewhere.
Lacy was hyped because he is american and resembled Tyson some what. And as pointed out most none-american exspected him to loose versus Calzaghe.
Lacy is a good fighter - and he was a worldchampion - but he was never great and never will be. He might be champion again, but I doubt it somewhat. He has lost his confidence and he has lost his aura of fear - his opponents doesn't fear him anymore and he isn't convinced he'll blast them out anymore...

Faetter, plenty of European journalists were saying JC would lose, but I conced that it was American hype.
I don't give massive credit for fighting Beyer, simply because Beyer was garbage. It was a miracle that that man held a title.
I don't give massive credit for beating Beyer either. Beyer was a decent champion, but nothing more. I had him around number #10 in SMW at the time he fought Kessler. I think calling him garbage and the likes is a harsh judgement.

I think that is a fair description.
The main difference between Lacy and Beyer is that they were from Germany and the US. Beyer was actually impressive agaisnt Sheika and made a good come back against highly touted Green. fights that an american press could and would have hyped.
I believe Lacy was 5-6 when Calzaghe met him. Kessler, Calzaghe, Mundine were clearly better and seeing that mediocre Tsypko drew (in reality) with Lacy, several other fighters would have had a good chance.

Beyer and Siaca both were shit champions, which is why I don't consider Kessler's reign that legitimate - he did more for his titles in defeating Mundine (a guy who had lost twice previously) than he did by beating Beyer or Siaca.
For me, his title reigns aren't legitimate at all because of the guys he's beat to get and retain the titles.
Lets be completely serious for a moment
You place ANY of the guys Kessler has faced on Calzaghes resume in place of the much maligned Tocker Pudwills or Salems or Ashiras - would anyone rate his career any differently?
The only guy on Kesslers resume that is even worth a title shot is Anthony Mundine - the fact that Beyer and Siaca possessed titles is just tribute to the reason why Joe Calzaghe has no real greats outside of Eubank in his career - the 168 division has been bare for many a year
I love your logic Blocky:
Kessler isn't a legit champion because he hasn't beaten good enough opponents... (Kessler beat two reigning champions and two mandatories on abrod...)
Calzaghe can't be blaimed for not beating that many good opponents because there wasn't any-one better around...
So I guess Calzaghe is rated above Kessler because he has been beating the weak opponents in SMW for 10 years and Kessler for only two years - or???

Not moronic - Kessler will amount to very little after his fight against Calzaghe- he'll get more legacy out of Lacy's career. It was very moronic.
Calzaghe will gain a lot by beating Kessler (if he can somehow do it). Kessler has 2 belts ( 2 more prestigous belts which Calzaghe has never held), and a great record, and is establishing himself at a much quicker rate than Calzaghe did/is. A win over Kessler would probably make Calzaghe the greatest SMW ever.

The Aussies are now moaning & groaning that we have sent a 'B' team for the next, away leg of the Tri Nations. They should be so lucky as to even have a 'B' team! We smacked them in the first game and had the All Blacks on toast, with 10 minutes to go. Then our idiots defended the lead, instead of carrying on with the winning pattern of play. The All Blacks love it when 'you' kick it back to them...and so, they won....but only just.
And....this morning, the Aussies gave them a smack!
The World Cup will be very interesting.
As an aside: American football is so boring with all of that stop, start crap. Those guys wouldn't last 20 minutes playing our brand of the ball game.
