Mundine does it again
Phil Lutton on the Gold Coast
June 27, 2007
Mundine is now likely to step up his calls for a big payday against divisional kingpins Mikkel Kessler, who defeated Mundine in Sydney in 2005, and Welshman Joe Calzhage.
But Mundine concedes it’s likely he will have to get some more defences under his belt before the big-name opponents come knocking on his manager’s door.   Kessler came a-knocking.....twice...... :rofl :rofl :rofl
"Calzhage is in that position - he's number one in our division - because of his defences as a fighter. I just have to keep knocking people out,” Mundine said. :patsch He musta still been groggy when he made that comment
"The more quick defences - boom, boom, boom - I want to make statements, I want to make noise. If I can fit a a Calzhage in there, I'll go to instant stardom worldwide.
"I believe I'm ready now. Saying that, it would be great to get some defences and experience of world title fights under my belt. OH.....OH......not looking bood for the nuthuggers.:-(
"I really feel like I'm in a part of my career where I'm starting to get on the top of my game. It's hard because some of these guys, it's hard to get big fights."In the meantime I'll keep fighting whoever they put in front of me as far as the top 15 - you can't fight anybody out of the top 15 in the world. Yeah......right....... Nievas wasn't rated in the Top 15, until Nasser pulled a few strings:nono
"Whoever that is, I'm going to knock them out. I'm going to make statement after statement until one of these guys says, 'let's go'.":rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Sorry guys.........Doesn't seem like has any plans to step it up in the forseeable future. :D
Look on the bright side though......... The WBA regs require him to face his Mandatory next up....... (that will probably be The Russian Dennis Minkin, fighting on the 30th) as Bute has gone off to the WBC and Lacy is still injured.
I wouldn't hold my breath.....
Mundine should have been fighting his Mandatory instead of Nievas.
Somehow.......that didn't happen.

Hey........didn't a couple of you nuthuggers say that you were looking forward to this fight coz Mundine was going to announce his next "Big Name":hey opponent afterwards?
I guess in all the excitement of his unexpected victory.........he must have forgotten. :D
I totally agree Oz. Its complete rubbish. If he keeps doing it he is just a fraud. I was very dissapointed to hear those comments. What a waste.

Is he trying to imply that if he can get enough title defences against tin cans under his belt, he will be akin to Calzaghe?
And BOXREC have Nievas ranked 45th in the world at SMW - obviously the WBA rushed him up into their top 15 for last night's fight :-(

Neivas had a pretty good chin, i didnt think Mundine could land a sweet punch on the chin again like he did to sammy.

dunno muttley, i turned up in round 8 :good i cant watch a whole mundine fight
A good punch that threw him off balance. Choc hurt him a couple times but not seriously. The comments afterwards annoyed me the most. "He is the hardest puncher I have ever fought". "He will give any of the top guys in the division trouble". Kessler would have absolutely annihilated this guy.

So they've dumped Bute........Lacy is injured.....
Inkin and Haussler will probably have to box off for the right to become Mundine's mandatory.

Yeah... no mandatory at the moment.
Inkin is slated to fight Jozsef Nagy on 30 June... there's only one way that can go.
Tsypko is fighting this weekend as well. Mundine also fought this week.... i'd like to see him take on either of these 2. Timed well etc. Though it's likely more probable that they'll fight each other before Mundine does.
It will be interesting to see how Nagy does against Inkin too. He's an up and comer, but he's doing well and though it's a completely padded early career, there's some decent records in his collection for a newbie and he's stepping up at a good time. He won't be a match for Inkin though...
