parrying a jab

i try parrying but all i do is hit the jab right into my face. any tips? im pretty good at catching a jab and slipping them etc.

I was taught to flick your wrist outward. I don't really use it on jabs because you can just slip or catch without losing too much speed. momentum and timing has a lot to do with it.

you gotta ceonentrate on making it a short sharp movement

I'm alright at perrying the jab. It took a lot of practice though. My trainer would throw jabs at me, and make my perry them. He taught me to make a slightly movement with my wrist to knock it down. He threw the jabs at me, and I had to perry them. After a few weeks of that, I got the hang of it. And after practicing in sparring, then I got pretty good at it. Now if only I could improve my foot work...

Swat it to the side at the very last instant. Don't go reaching out for it. Wait until it's right in front of your face before swatting it away. That way, you have more accuracy and the chances of falling for a feint are minimized.

i thought catching is when you open your glove and allow the jab to hit the palmo of your hand and it just stops

and parrying is when you hit the jab away

Catching and parry really are the same thing.

If you can catch it but can't parry it then you need to learn to use the jabs force against it and move your hand in the right direction to manipulate the jabs movement.

Left or right or down or even turn to the right. Or you can use a short sharp movement to stop it in its tracks.

The idea is to come back with a left hand or even a right if you feel like being versatile.

Watch Cotto-Pinto. Cotto parries Pintos jab with his left, comes back with the right, followed with the left hook and BOOM Pinto is on the seat of his pants.

Watch Jones-Liles. Jones parries Liles right uppercut with his left hand and comes back with a left hook.
