I am 25, 5'7 177lbs (was 189 3 months ago). I work out about 3-4 times a week. I do weights, tread mill and exercise bike. I also hit the bag for about 45 minutes. I started slow to get my staminia up... I want to get down to 160, so I can box at 154.

For some odd reason, I discovered ESB about a year ago and became attracted boxing. I started hitting the bag just f*$kin around and it came so natural. Everyone in the gym (worlds gym) asks me for tips and all I ever done was read stuff from ESB.

Am I just dreaming or is this just a fad? I hope to get some video soon...

Really, you could do whatever you want. Plenty of amateurs your age and older. If you feelin it like that then go head and take it a far as you can...

thanks for the motivation... At first all my buddies where looking at me crazy... I'm a real laid back dude... I mean, I played varsity b-ball in high school and jv in college (St. Joseph's) so I am athletic... I am going to run with it and train my ass off... wish me luck! I think the hardest part will be the weight loss... 177 to 160... I've been in the 180's for 4 years or so...

You only get one shot at life go for it. My mates think the same about me theyve got this sterio typical boxer image that i dont fit lol but i dont care. I read marciano didnt start till 25 , mind you i read somewhere else he started a bit earlier. Anyway dont matter its how you feel you could be a natural, generally years of training are needed but there are exceptions. GO FOR IT!:good

did you hit the bag before you were trained? If so, you could have formed some bad habits by now.

Tito, I'm 26 and I started some months ago. If you have been active throughout your life and have done sports it shouldn't be a problem. It could be problem for people who have never done sports during their life, but this concerns not only boxing, but all sports. However, I don't consider getting into the ring some day for something different than sparring, but for me it isn't based on my age, but on my personal decision.

You can never to old to start boxing. Alot of people do it as a hobby just like any other sport.

I am 24, will be 25 in February. I actually just bought my first piece of boxing equipment a few days ago. As I told tito time already I am 2 hours away from a gym, but by Christmas I hope to have a heavybag stand and speed bag in my spare room. I also plan on starting to run. I've often heard that there is a progression people find themselves doing as they start off with boxing. First they start training, and then they get into some shape. They said they would never spare, but then the feeling gets to strong and then they do. After sparring and maybe having someone tell them they look decent they begin to look at amateur stuff. From then they may consider pro. In this day and age if you take boxing seriously, you can fight until you are close to 40, depending on your style, weight class, etc. I don't know if I would ever fight a real fight, but I guess technically I would be in the first stage of my little scenario. Good luck to you either way.

5'7, 177 lbs? I suggest you hit up the treadmill fast.

Even at 5'7, 160 lbs, you'll still be fat.

I suggest you drop down to 140.

How in the world would you know the guy's body type. How about not posting if you're just going to be a jerk?

How in the world would you know the guy's body type. How about not posting if you're just going to be a jerk? Because I can get a general picture of his body type by the videos that he posted.

And it's called constructive criticism.

Calling him fat isn't constructive.

140, I think is way to small for me... I would be skeleton... My girlfriend is 137 and shes like 5'4 and her frame is very small. My frame is to wide.. Big shoulders... 154 will be good for me.

I'm 21 so I'm not too far behind you. I just got into boxing about 4 months ago, even though I've had a passion for it and fighting my whole life. I thought I was getting into it late when I hear about fighters starting to train while in high school, and here I'm almost done with college and seriously getting into it.

But you only have one life and your own passions, make the most out of them!

I started at 28 and I have my first fight in two weeks at 30. Age shouldn't be a deterrent, but hopefully they will match you up with someone in the same ballpark.

Watched your video, looked pretty good, My advice is try and work everything from your feet, stay on your toes and make sure you don't cross your legs over at any time, try stay relaxed and balanced.

I just turned 21, and I decided to try boxing. I read about guys that were born with boxing gloves on, and I thought I was too old. But this thread has inspired me to kick my training into over drive. you guys are all pretty cool, and very helpful

i would like to eventually get into it one day. I would have to get into shape first... and really I would just want to get in a gym with a trainer and get a few pointers and all learn some decent technique and eventually spar. I think it would be loads of fun but I dont know if I will ever do it. Im almost done with school and will be workign full time and all. Maybe someday..
