Englands Bantamweight Joe Murray opened up Englands campaign at the World Championships with a 3rd round stoppage against Argentine Maximillano Marquez with a score at time of stoppage of 26 - 6.

Just for anyone who doesnt know but Joe Murray is the younger brother of Professional Lightweight Prospect John Murray.

Stephen Smith lost a close contest to Marcel Herfurth (Ger) 20-14.
Middleweight medal hope James Degale (ENG) lost to Alfonso Blanco (VEN) 28-13

Englands Light Welter Bradley Saunders won beating Boris Katalinic from Croatia on pts 23 - 12 .

91kg Danny Price (ENG) lost to Clemente Russo (ITA) 14-5
+91kg David Price (ENG) bt Marko Tomasovic (CRO) 23-11

Joe Murray has a tough route to the Medals next up is 2007 Pan American games champion Mexican Carlos Cuadras who also had a 3rd round stoppage win last night.

Frankie Gavin Has just won with a 3rd round stoppage score 20 - 0 against Omar Ward from Barbados.

Flyweight Khalid Said beat Derenik Gizhlaryan ARM 22-10.

Light Heavy Tony Jeffries beat Hollands Daniel Kooij 13 - 6 .

Friday sees next round of competition begin With Bantamweight Joe Murray and lt welterweight Bradley Saunders having there 2nd contest.

Joe and Bradley are joined in the next round by Darren Langley , Khalid Said , Frankie Gavin , Tony Jeffries and David Price.

Looking at the names mentioned - Do you think Bradley Saunders has lost out through waiting to London 2012?

if bradley does well at 2012 he shud make more as a pro early doors than if he went pro in 2008

if bradley does well at 2012 he shud make more as a pro early doors than if he went pro in 2008It is a big gamble risking 4 years pro career development for the chance of gold. All it takes is an injury or illness at the time and 4 years prep is down the drain.

Degale probably will have a world belt by then and Gavin will be on his way as well

saunders said he just didn't want to turn pro. he was happy enough getting the funding he was getting in the ams. not really a good sign that he'd amount to much if he did turn over, although i think froch was a bit reluctant as well
