He needs to keep doing what he has been doing. Finding the best fighters that he can and beating them on a consistent basis will make him and ATG.
Oh and tighten up the defense a little.

Margarito, Mayweather/Mosley, and Hatton
He is suppose to fight Margo next. Thats an easy win. Pull a miracle over Mayweather or Mosely. And then fight and beat Hatton which he can.
Throw in a couple of title defences against the likes of Clottey, Harris, Malignaggi, Spinks, and Cintron.
He becomes an all-time great Welterweight. The most storied division in boxing. :happy

But they were both black, therefore they will always get more respect in most american boxing circles, b/c they carry a bias.
sounds like u carry a puerto rican bias...

Let's not get carried away. Cottos career is on stand by until Margo-Williams fight. If Margo comes through then thats his step into the top 15 P4P charts.
Then it could be Mayweather-Hatton winner or Mayweather-Mosley winner or Cintron. Who knows. Options are there though.

He is going to need a big win over a big name or 2. A win over Hatton, and maybe Mosley and of course mayweather but I don't see that fight ever being made. Along with that he should clean out his division and either have a big number of defenses or move up and clean out 154 also.

Or move up and beat Sergey Dzinziruk and Spinks in place of Clottey and Berto(both aren't that great).

Cotto is already on the right track. Clean up 147 and possibly move up to 154 and he'll do it. If he would have won the championship at 140 I would say a move up to 154 wasn't necessary.

I just don't get it. What makes people think that Americans give black fighters more credit and respect based on their race? Lennox Lewis was never liked in America. Bert Sugar didn't even put him in his top ten all time heavyweights. Americans favor American boxers. It just so happens that there aren't many white American fighters. Overall, white Americans are starving for a great white fighter. It's no surprise that the most popular boxer in America is De La Hoya. He may not be white, but he sure looks the part.
