Boxing could be so a great sport(he already is) if they could do I dont know tournament like Golf. Like a 16 system elimination, that would be so cool, if you want to proove that you are the best, you need to beat every body to win tournament.

that actually sounds pretty cool

I hope boxing is not dying, but decisions like the one for Kid Diamond over Huerta can do no good.

Boxing just need to become more accessible again, fewer weights, fewer belts, fewer PPV's and a recognisable heavyweight champ wouldn't hurt either.

Only if the PBF/ Andre Direll style takes over.

Boxing is fine but it does need some adjustments. One of the first moves to get it going in the right direction is to do something about greedy promoters and having the best actually fight the best.

Pitting a great fighter up against another great fighter was the recipe in the 80's. Worked well then and you know how the ol' saying goes, "If it ain't broke . . ."

Fewer belts + forced defenses against the BEST fighters could save boxing. Unfortunately, at this stage, it is impossible to get that.

A unified Heavyweight Champ is the first step. Straighten up the sanction organizations would be second. Kill Dong King third.

Wouldn't killing Don King just mean his son there would take his place? From what I know, he's just as bad as his father

Plenty of things are killing boxing that I just dont see going away.

Too many ABC belts. Too many corrupt organizations. Too many corrupt promoters. Too many horrible biased decisions. Too many fights on pay per view. Too little fights on network TV. Too many non-bankable stars. Too many boring fights. Too little of the correct promotion. Too many lackluster cards. Too much ducking rather then putting the best against the best. TOO MUCH BULLSHIT!

So many things that ya just cant easily fix.

I hope they do...but seriously...it doesnt matter. I LOVE boxing...I wont stop watching.

What good would killing Don King do if Bob Arum's still alive? :conf

So what do you think?

Only if the PBF/ Andre Direll style takes over.

direll hates shots to the body.......runs and tries to showboat too much. i'd have my fighter bob/weave ala tyson/frazier/duran and concentrate on his midsection. trap him and rip to the body. i bet he'll fall inside of 4 rounds everytime. unless my fighter punched like Liberace.

Boxing popularity as always been a cycle. The moreits popular the more it piss on its fans. So when the following goes down so does the BS. Whats new is the PPV crap, it will slow down renewal of the fanbase as it goes doen.

its just going thru a slump. there are no superstars around now. and everything sues2nd says goes double for me-that's everything holding back the sport + no superstars but ufc still sucks

Boxing isn't dying, though there are a lot of elements in the boxing business that are hurting it.

That said, ask people in the Phillipines if boxing is dying. Ask people in Mexico if boxing is dying. Ask people in Puerto Rico if boxing is dying. Ask the Brits if boxing is dying. Boxing is still a very popular sport around the globe.

I've heard this same crap spewed since the very early eighties when I became a true fan.

Indeed, boxing is dying was being said in the days post Muhamad Ali.....then came the Fab 4 of Duran, Leonard, Hagler and Hearns......
.....Arguello was in our living rooms on Network TV, then his classic battles with Aaron Pryor......
......Then came Tyson......JC Chavez.....Evander Holyfield......

.....Trinidad, DLH, and Mosely......

Thats just to mention a fraction of the many great fighters since the 70's.....

.....Great fighters like, Mayweather, the Marquez bros, Manny Pacquiao, Cotto, Hatton, Calzaghe, Jermaine Taylor, are still fighters that can excite the boxing scene if matched with top notch opposition.....

I'm sorry, but there's too many potential great matchups in boxing that excite me as a boxing fan.

Wake up and spit on corruption that tries to bring down the sport, and just enjory the great matchups when they occur.

Dont let the media turds tell you the sport is dying.
Sit and enjoy this coming weekends Hatton-Castillo matchup.

It's not perfect, and theres alot of things that can be done to improve it, but boxing is alive and way far from dead!!!:bbb :happy

boxing is not dying. many consider it dying because or relatively poor ppv and ticket sales against its competition i.e. mma, buit the thing is mma is (arguably) only beating boxing in the us and some parts of europe. boxing is alive and well in asia and even southern america. more and more people want to get into boxing because more and more asian, latin, african fighters are going up the ranks.

you can't consider boxing to be dying just because it is (again arguably) losing to its competition in just one market (us). mma may catch up with boxing in the mainstream but it will never parallel with boxing in the rest of the world

MMA is HUGE in asia,Such as Japan and Korea.
Far bigger than boxing, if the MMA bug catches on in China then people would have no choice but to say that MMA is overtaking it.

Boxing is till the biggest combat sport,it has diminished in the US but is still very big in Europe, especially the eastern countries. Boxing is of course still very big in mexico.

japan exports mma fighters so it should really be big there. but boxing is still big there. i think there are still more boxing than mma events. but even if mma is, as you said, bigger than boxing in japan and korea, those are just two countries, realatively small ones at that (land area). the rest of asia watch mma but only the ufc. they don't know k1 and pride and the other promotions. liddell's loss over jackson did not even make it to most of newspapers here in the pi. but boxing news, even if they don't concern filipino fighters and even if they don't have p4p top guys still make the news here because it is still way bigger than mma

sure, fight fans enjoy the bloodshed in mma but there are just casual fans who'd watch by chance. you can't say same is true for boxing. mma only gets aired on cable and the smaller networs here but boxing is aired by the bigger networks because they know many people will watch it

Sometimes you think boxing is dying when you got confused of what we really looking in this sport. Much more in bout results. When we see PBF win while doing the hit and run style over DLH, then we see Spinks doing it on Taylor, but lost? Agressiveness, strength, defense, ring generalship or whatever a fighter may do in the ring to make them win sometimes confuses us enthusiasts what judges looks for in a fight. Boxing is not dying, I think there are just some evil behind boxing who simply manipulates over fight decisions which affect this sport.

they need to show better fights for free.

Friday Night Fights is dirt. All the boxing on Fox Sports Net is dirt. The Contender is dirt (even though the competition is a little better this year.) Why is it that Football, Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Hockey, and pretty much every other sport, people can watch for free.
I understand boxing needs to make money, so you cant take away all PPV, but they need to do something on national television to attract more mainstream fans. They need to place some exciting fighters on national TV. Like MannyPac for an example.

don't fix it! lol. Very true. This recipe not only gives great fights, but it also creates superstars that rise to the very top of the sport which attracts more fans. It seems that this is starting to come true (knock on wood) with all of the great fights coming up in the next few months. Hopefully they can keep it rolling

I always thought vacating a belt to avoid a match was pretty cowardly. Boxers should fight 3-4 times a year, 3 mandatory defenses, one optional extra fight if they can fit it into their schedule which could be purely a purse fight or tuneup for champs.

If a fighter vacates a belt, he should be forced to have reason.. Either retirement or legit injury. If not, it should be considered a loss. A champion wants to move up or down in weight, it should be stated one fight prior to doing so.

One sanctioning body, one belt per devision.
