what shot did you get hit by??
usually people get hit to the liver by a overhand right.

it hurt more because he hit you harder, the palm is a very effective weapon, but it's not a legal striking surface in boxing

it def wasnt legal and wouldnt knuckles hurt more than a palm?

if you get better leverage hitting with your palm, then you will hit harder, and it will hurt more

try hitting the heavy bag with your palm sometime

the palm of a glove is often not padded

The palm has less padding and a large surface area, so its more likely to hit the liver

No way. If you're bare knuckle you're better off hitting the liver with your second set of knuckles. If you hit it hard enough you can actually rupture the liver, it's a common injury in car accidents if someone hits an angled surface with the bottom of their rib cage (steering wheel or gear stick or whatever).
Obviously very dangerous and not something I recommend busting out in training.

Even with a glove on, hitting with the knuckles has a more direct transfer of force, I just gave an explanation as to why you got hurt.

Occasionally you can also really hurt people by 'slapping' with a hook, but it doesn't mean it's a consistently better punch.

On the subject of the liver shot, I was always under the impression that the 'Gazelle punch' was a lunging straight left, but when I youtubed it recently I found this..
