WBC junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (38-0, 24KOs) was sitting back on the couch and enjoying his retirement when he saw Ricky Hatton (43-0, 31KOs) knock out Jose Luis Castillo, and then take a shot at him on national television. "You saw more excitement in those four rounds than you've seen in Floyd's whole career," Hatton said.
Mayweather told USA Today that he saw an opportunity to make some easy money and thought 'why not go get it?' The bout with Hatton is tentatively set for November 10, with Las Vegas at the top of the list to host the fight.
"I think he just wants to hear himself talk," Mayweather said. "He got in front of the media and called my name out. He didn't think I was going to respond, but it doesn't work like that. I've accomplished too much in the sport for him to disrespect me. I was serious (about retirement). I was at home, chilling peacefully. I wasn't paying attention (to Hatton). But that's easy money, so why not go get it?"
Mayweather is not impressed with Hatton as a fighter. He told USA Today that Hatton would make a better wrestler than a boxer and he should seek a contract with the WWE.
Mayweather would be best not to criticize Hattons style. There is plenty of criticism to go around about his style too.

I seriously doubt Floyd was actually hurt by Hatton's comments. He's just using what Hatton said to justify abandoning his silly retirement plans. No one is going to retire at their peaks when they can make $10 million plus for easy work against guys like Hatton. This is why we never see Floyd take on truley dangerous opponents anymore. Overhyped media darlings like Gatti, Oscar, and Hatton come at Floyd offering boatloads of cash and he, as any reasonable person would do, jumps at the opportunity.

I would love to see Floyd fight Mosely. I think Mosely would really challenge Floyd. I would be a close fight for about 6 or 7 rounds, and then Floyd would take over down the stretch.

I have seen a lot of names in this thread, none of them are the one I want to hear. Hatton is the easiest match up for Floyd. I think thats why Floyd is pursuing this fight. Maybe Miguel "the wrecking ball" Cotto needs to start calling Mayweather a pussy and faggot on TV. He is obviously the toughest fight for Mayweather right now !!!!

Good point. Though Cotto is too respectful a fighter and wouldn't throw any names at Floyd. If he did it would have to be 2X as provoative and dirty since he has a way bigger chance to upset Floyd. I agree that this will be an easy fight for Floyd and i'm sticking to it.:deal

It is very possible that Hatton will be the best opponent that Floyd has ever faced. There are arguments to be made that Castillo was better in his prime (though, I don't really think so) or that De La Hoya, even as he is now, was better. This is a reasonably disputable argument, one that I personally have no problem with.
There is absolutely no argument that Floys is by far the best opponent that Hatton has ever faced. Hatton has never fought a fighter as gifted as Floyd, or even one that is close to it. There can be no reasonable argument on this point.
People who say that Floyd is either A) taking the easy way out or B) fighting someone who he can easily beat need to take a step back and examine the facts a little bit. While Hatton may not be the absolute best fighter than Floyd can face right now, there is certainly no shame in squaring off with the hitman. Mosley might be a better option, Cotto might be a better option, but really, Ricky Hatton is without a doubt a top notch opponent. He is absolutely a world class fighter, and if Floyd "beats him easily" than Floyd deserves very very much respect for easily beating one of the best opponents out there.
The word is Hatton has offered Floyd 10 million dollars to fight him. In my eyes, this is an absolutely ludicrous and insulting offer. The reason isn't because 10 million dollars is necessarily too low, for instance, I don't know exactly how much money Hatton-Mayweather would actually make, but because I've yet to read how much money Hatton would actually make.
If Floyd gets 10 million and Hatton gets 10 million +1 dollar the offer is an insulting absolutely void proposition. For these fighters, a percentage split of the total revenue seems to be the fairest of options. Offering Floyd a dollar amount without specifying exactly how much hatton will be making is a total insult.
Floyd can't expect to make 20 million dollars from his next fight. It is absolutely a fantasy if he thinks Hatton is CAPABLE of giving him De La Hoya dollars. However, Hatton is not in a position to be offering Floyd a capped dollar amount without disclosing exactly how much he plans on earning.

A fair post but 2 points..Hatton has faced an opponent on a par with Mayweather, someone called Tszyu, although Tszyu gassed towards the end those middle rounds fighting a fighter just as good as Mayweather is worth at least equal in term of experience to all Hattons other fight put together. The 2nd point is if Mayweather does not like the offer he should better the offer to have it in America if that is so important to him or move aside and let DeLaHoya have a crack at fighting Hatton,is doesn't just stop with Mayweather for Hatton.

Hatton hasn't lied to us, he wanted to build his popularity in the USA with a few fights then go after Mayweather, he's been saying this all along, back then the timing may have been convenient for mayweather but it wasn't for Hatton.

Though I do agree with what you said because who would want to see a one sided affair ?I was never against Hatton trying to build up his credientals ,but what I can't stand is how some fans are quick to knock a certain fighter but don't chose to use all the facts surronding the fighters ..

I'm just wondering, which part of what Hatton said about Mayweather, wasn't true? ... Mayweather proclaiming self-greatness is way too premature ... Sure he is talented, and he has a big mouth, but my problem with him is that he's not willing to take on all comers ... He's clearly ducking Mosley ... now he's crying like a girl about Hatton disrespecting his accomplishments ... accompishments?, the guy's only had one big money fight his entire career, and there's a good reason for why Mayweather alone isn't a big draw ... I have no doubt that he can beat Hatton, but he needs to let his talent do the talking for him ... young Tyson, young Jones Jr., Duran, all were big talkers, but what sets them apart from Mayweather was that they took care of their business, took on all comers and actually knocked guys out.

PBf had at least 5 incidences in which charges were filed where alleged domestic abuse took place. Now, yes he wasnt convicted, and it hasnt happened recently, but where there is smoke there's fire.
I credit PBf for not having any more issues a long these lines in RECENT TIMES. However, he did have previous issues and settling out of court($$$$$$$$$) doesnt mean his behavior was exemplary:good Personally, I dont condone or approve of such things, but all any man can do to right a wrong, is continue doing right.
Some, will always remember and dislike him for these prior issues, and that's their right.

I am new here.. hello. it is ironic that the topic slides from hatton making disrespectful comments to Floyd and domestic violence??? Beat women??? he has never been convicted. a man could have a dispute with a woman and she could easliy report that a man did something- it happens all the time. PBF is not a woman beater... but he will beat the hell out of Hatton if the meet. People just saw Floyd nuetralize a bigger man with more skills than Hatton. Hatton is shorter than Mayweather and has proven that he cannot cut it at 147 when Collazo made him look ordinary. Aside from roughhouse tactics Hatton has nothing to faze mayweather... a few 4 punch combos to the head will slow down Hatton's grab and maul style

Both have there flaws as i think PBF is cooming out to fight Hatton because he will whoop Hatton's ass very easy Hatton knows it thats why he offered such a ridiculous amount...case and point Floyd ACCEPTED ALL of Oscars demands..purse,money,ring size, glove size, and weight.....why...because he wanted to fight Oscar. Why doesnt Hatton do the same since he really believes he can beat PBF? PBF really knew he could beat Oscar but Oscar is the champ and premiere fighter it is only right he accept all his demands....so why is Hatton doing the opposite? It just makes one think.
Floyd though, i enjoy floyds fights because i love boxing and his skills are superior in so many ways, but i do wish Floyd fights these three Hatton, Cotto and Mosley with Mosley being his toughest opponent....i think Hatton is to easy, Cotto get hit way too much and just comes forward also but he better than Hatton to me, but Mosley poses the biggest threat....and i do believe Floyd knows it why..because Shane has said a lot about floyd on national t.v as well but floyd doesnt answer...Hatton the easiest of the three says something and he is ready to fight...that is what makes me cringe about PBF.
