View Full Version : Gamboa is the bollox!

I can't think of any ' prospect ' who has been more impressive than Gamboa has in his debut year 2007. This is very exciting, this kid has all kinds of tools and looks to be a very focused warrior.

He's technically flawed, but his speed and power are immense gifts and I suspect that once the competition gets steeper, that the flaws will become less and less, fighting flawed is kind of a superiority thing, they feel the opponent is nothing compared to them and take more calculated risks... this is the case with Gamboa and his low hands...

But hell, Guzman does this even at the top level and Gamboa is beating up and starching an already B- opponent in De Jesus like an elite would, which is why I am impressed.

In terms of a prospect, this kid is the SHIT, serious prospect, a potential Supernatural we're talking about and these types come around only so often. Wouldn't it be awesome if this era had 4 Supernaturals to come out of it?

That'd be the bollox, like I said. I am excited for Gamboa's rise.:good

Maybe, but I think he's the bollox of a former Supernatural ATG, having been reincarnated. Maybe Mijares lost a testicle several years back...

Who are the current 3 "supernaturals" for you? Calzaghe (I agree)... Mayweather (? Would agree).... who else?

Calzaghe, Mijares & Guzman.

Mayweather is a phenom, but not a 'Supernatural', a Supernatural has to have Supernatural ability, but also have a warrior element and the ability to brutally punish top class fighters, recently, Mayweather's been a phenominal pot shotter, the last guy he brutalised was Gatti, who was far from a top class.

Calzaghe didn't brutalise Kessler, but he gave him a Supernatural ass whipping down the stretch and was prepared to do whatever it took to win, Mijares and Guzman have similiar ability and would do the same.

Floyd vs. Cotto - Floyd pot shotting, too defensive and could give away the fight just by being too defensive against a skilled swarmer. Cotto/Kessler about at the same level of ability, with different styles of course.

HOWEVER,

Floyd at 130 = Supernatural.

:good

Guzman is too old, too quickly.

Yes, because he was avoided during his prime years, he's still a force however and will defeat Soto and possibly JMM.

And stylistically, he rips Pac to shreds even a little declined.

Your thoughts on Gamboa CHJ?

We're talking about how Gamboa is potentially as good as Mijares down the line and for a prospect, he's as good as they're going to come at us with questions still unanswered.

Gamboa seems focused for real. I think out of all the cubans he seems like the hungriest and most motivated. He will be a champ!

I wonder how the change of trainer will effect him?

I've only seen the one fight. He is obviously very, very good, but then any idiot could tell you that.

Finally many of you have realized what myself and jaycuban are telling you since his first pro fight...

I had the pleasure to enjoy two of his fights from ringside, seeing the rest on TV.

Though, I must note that he fought very sloppy in front of his "home" crowd in Miami compared to his fights in Germany were he was fighting more focused.
I think and hope that this was just about being his first fight there - if he can come down and not being over-confident when fighting there then he's for sure a future world champion.

For his next fight: I think his promoter Ahmet Öner will choose Germany as the venue for his first shot at a minor belt, then going back to Miami in February/March next year to expose him to the American public via SHOBox...

yes, he is a Shane 2.0 (the mid 20 at 130-135) in offensive abilities but not in defensive...not yet.

gamboa keeping his hands down/ showing flaws is just him probably showboating his awesome talent. no doubt when the competition steps up he'll go back to a more traditional style, no amateur coach much less a coach in the cuban system would teach putting you hands down, and i'm sure thats been drilled into gamboa's head since a he started boxing. i'm very impressed with this guy. with his skills he looks to have the potential for greatness. vamonos gamboa!

Maybe Roy Jones or Mosley at Lightweight?

Do you think that Gamboa will lose his speed with age and may end like Jones?

He won't fight that long...maybe another 7 years or so at best.

He looks very promising and I'd be shocked if he doesn't pick up a few World titles .

After taking a big step up with De Jesus recently I wonder who will they match him up with next .
