View Full Version : Any TUA RUMORS??

Kiwi_in_America

Tua was doing well against the "tune-ups". Now he just up and
takes 5 months off. Turns down a Brewster bout just when his
conditioning is looking better. What gives??

Anyone have any decent idea who might be in the pipeline in
July for a Tua fight?

Any rumors out there?

All quiet on the Tua front as far as I know. I haven't heard anything. He should get busy.

He will be fighting a journeyman in July, another one in February, then another one in december 08.

Bring this back up in dec. 08...the coincidence will be eerie

That's funny. :D Unfortunately, it's also consistent with Tua's recent pattern.

I've always liked Tua, and always wanted him to do well, but like most fans, I've been very disappointed with his comeback. He's just treaded water - and at a very slow pace, too. He needs to step it up, ASAP and make a move. A title would be there for the taking if he worked himself into shape and fought more frequently.

Compare Tua with Holyfield... who now looks to fight for a belt.
Tua surely could be right there by now doing the same thing.
Totally cannot understand a 5 month layoff at this point.

And still no announcement.

What is Kushner (his promoter) doing?

I remember he was going to fight Briggs over a year ago then backed out saying he needed like 14 more tuneups or around that number.

What is Kushner (his promoter) doing?

Tua got worked over by Barry etc.

And I think he's picked a very poor promoter this time too.

After his second to last fight, both Tua and his trainer were saying they'd fight every month. Kushner, sounded like twice a year, and trying to tee upa title shot on Tuas name would be enough.

The language both Tua and Bloodworth used, it was obvious there had been disagreements about this.....

But when time is running out like it is for Tua, why would you stay
with a promoter like that?

I like Tua. But he's done sad to say

There's no reason he has to be "done" at 34 years old.

But he won't get anywhere like this.

The Brewster fight was turned down because apparently conditions stipulated that neither boxer was to fight 6 weeks before the bout was to be held.Tua's camp came out and said after the Hawkins fight that wasn't going to allow them time to fit in another tuneup before facing Brewster, that the plan was to have him fighting more often. And then they go and do this...:-( I'll always be a Tuaman follower but his periods of inactivity are really frustrating

I heard a rumor that he was a short, fat, Samoan.

Maybe he signed a deal for a certain number of fights - so Kushners going to try and maximise the cash - while doing Tua's career ZERO favours.

OK so if Tua's stuck with Kushner for now there's nothing that can be done. But why isn't Kushner getting Tua into the ring as often as he should?

Dead right. He just keeps on taking far too long between fights, and when he does he's fighting low level guys 'to shake off the ring rust' which he's accumulated since fighting the last tomato can.

He hasn't fought a guy of any value since getting a dubious draw with Rahman in '03.

Even if Tua suddenly gets a title eliminator or something, he'll be sorely unprepared due to the weak and infrequent fights he's been having. You still get the impression that a jab and some lateral movement will be enough to utterly bamboozle the guy.

Nice guy, killer power and great chin...but you'd have to label him a big underachiever, even with his management problems. The door's not shut but there's only a small crack of light left, he seriously needs to get a move on.

Yes - agreed DamonD.

This latest bout of inactivity is hard to believe or comprehend.

Still - a belt fight is a possibility in the next 8 months or so. We all hope so.

Tua has been spinning a (fat) web for nearly half a decade now: win a few easy fights, get a hype train going, then bugger off and get even fatter for a while. Then we have to endure crap like "Tua will be a champion" for a few months, before people once again forget fatso exists.

Tua was never that good anyway. Now he has a 2nd chance and wants 2 blow it with inactivity?! Stupid!! I'm sure that douchebag poster "lefthook 89" will have nightmares about his idol/fantasy lover. Fuck that little bitch!

We'll see what happens. Decent chance he'll be facing Arreola on the Williams undercard. If not Tua, then (unfortunately) probably Malik Scott.

He ain't facing Tua, no fuggin' way. Arreola will take a winnable fight.

It was already confirmed Tua will not be facing Arreola. Tua priced himself out, HBO isn't going to throw that much cash on the fight and Tua isn't going to show up for an "opponents purse".

Tua needs to fight Kali Meehan IMO.

its a sad state of affairs that people like ruiz who tua KO'd in 30 secs, has had loads of world title shots, and holyfield who should have retired years ago, and now haye who has had one fight at heavyweight, and who i believe tua would spark out within 4 rounds, are getting title shots, when tua has had ONE chance, and that was ten years ago against one of the greatest heavyweights in lennox lewis. whats it all about??

it surely cant be just down to tua's attitude can it?

there must be something else going on that we dont know about, as it makes no sense to me. an in-shape prime tua would batter all of the current heavyweight champions.

It's not like he hasn't gotten chances. Every time he gets close to getting a shot, he either loses or sits on his ass for years and loses his ranking.
