Roy Jones Jr. is busy these days training for his upcoming fight with Tito Trinidad. The fight will take place at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. According to quotes by Jones Jr. published by our friends at ***********.com, Jones Jr. is already thinking about his next fight, a fight with Joe Calzaghe.
Quoted by ***********.com, Jones Jr. stated: "I like to fight the best. From what I see, they think Joe Calzaghe is really good. After Tito, my magnet is going to be putting me towards that direction.”
Jones Jr. went on to add: “I'll go to England. They don't have to worry about where I come. They make it right and I'll go to England.”
Jones Jr. went on to tell the site thats the scene for boxing that he scares Calzaghe, something previous opponent Winky Wright could not achieve.
"He knows that he has to be right to fight me. Those other guys like Winky Wright didn't scare him. I scare him so he's got to be ready to fight me.”
“He's obviously been looking for the same thing as me: a reason to get up. Someone who is a threat to him.
“It’s going to be a big fireworks night. He's going to throw his and I'm going to throw mine and if one of them connects - something bad is going to happen.”
From the site thats the scene for boxing.
LOL ROY.

I'd still pay to see it even though I don't know if RRJ can still perform very well (We saw last week Calzaghe is still A++ for sure). RRJ been winning though and if he beats Tito in fashion maybe it can go down. At this point I say Joe makes him look pretty bad in there though.

But as far as the fight goes, I would still pay 2 watch Rj fight Calzaghe
He said he is willing to g2 England to fight him, which IMO I think would generate more money than A Bhop Calzaghe fight.

Prime Roy Jones would beat Calzaghe, by a pretty decent margin.
Current Roy Jones would get his ass handed to him on a plate! Roy should realy retire he was imo the best fighter of the last 20 years, but people will start to forget that if he gets brutaly KO'd again or if Calzaghe boxes his head off....:-(
Lampley
11-13-2007, 04:33 PM
Please retire, Roy. This is nonsense. I'd be furious if Calzaghe fought Jones.
But there's no way Roy would ever agree to terms, anyway, so it won't happen.

Why do you think that?
I think that Hopkins would win a UD. Roy doesnt have ether the confidence, work rate or the speed of hand or foot to beat Hopkins today.

not me, I dont think Calzaghe boxes RJ ears off. That would b his 1st mistake, to try and OUTBOX Roy Jones. Hi best chance of winning at this point would b 2 pressure him. But Calzaghe not gon do that. Trust me in the back of evry fighters mind, they know RJ still got that handspeed and power that they must respect. RJ is going to surprise evry1 in the game WATCH

I hope he does! I realy do. But Joe is faster than him now and much much more confident. Roy was never a great "boxer" in terms of his technical skills per say. I now think that he lacks the physical attributes to beat someone like Calzaghe. He still has good power, but Calzaghe has a great chin.

I dont think Joe at this stage of the game is faster than Roy Jones.
Calzaghe has ast hands no doubt, but I still dont think his handspeed is superior.
I give RJ a dam good ashot 2 beat Calzaghe, watch, people are going to b shocked. But this is how RJ wants it, every1 left him 4 dead b/c of 2 losses when his body was recovering. And any1 that does boxing knows, or weight lifting or plays any sports rather. If you gain muscle especially 20 somethin pounds of solid muscle, and then lose it by starvation and sterenuous workouts, and then do somethin like boxing after, you body needs time to heal itself, and recover. That is wat happened 2 RJ. But his body is reccoping, and he will shock you guys. Watch

I hope so, Go Roy!! IMO the Tito fight will give us a good indicator as to how he is still doing.

Tito is enough to worry about right now. Roy needs to worry about getting past him before he can even think about fighting a Joe Calz.
Calzaghe doesn't beat even todays version of Jones...:nono Jones is still faster, hits harder, and Calzaghe is no master technical boxer either...Jones will always be better than Calzaghe at his own game...i'd put the house on Jones if Calzaghe found the cojones to make the fight...

Look people . . . I'm not a hater . . . but RJJ is simply no longer in a position to demand what he wants . . . after all the recent bullshit performance? :-(
A victory over the long time inactive Trinidad is not an accomplishment he can bragged off.

RJJ is a pale imitation of his former self. He has aged ten years in the last 3. Undoubtely one of the best fighters in the last 15 years or so and he's gonna do what most of the great fighters do.....continuing fighting and losing badly to people they would once have destroyed and therefore undoing a lot of the good work that went before. Tragic.

Which Magnet is Roy talking about? The one that pointed towards the Hospital against Glen Johnson? I don't know what is Roy talkin about cause let me see - he was supposed to fight Tito and then he's sayin that he's gonna get up from there again to do some fireworks party with someone who's scared of him and something bad is gonna happen again. I didn't get anything from that article, seems like new lyrics from RJJ the rapper.

it doesn't matter that Jones' has slipped physically, he still isn't shot, and is still faster with more power than Calzaghe...Calzahge has the mental edge, which makes this fight a must see for me...

Obviously the prediction of the fight outcome is debatable (JC UD;) ) but my point is that it's a damn shame that Roy feels the need to put himself through this. I want to remember him as the great, great fighter he was, not what he is becoming.

what is greater than a fighter that constantly seeks challenges? i think Roy is proving his heart by challenging elite guys like Calzaghe...losses don't make the fighter, wins do...i can KO 100 bums then retire undefeated, and still not be shit...

He could have gone for Jones and Hopkins 6 or 7 years ago but chose to defend his WBO trinket against the likes of Tocker Pudwill and Kid Fire McIntyre instead. Which funnily enough directly coincided with Calzaghe running for the hills...you do the math.
Thanks for proving my argument though, up until Johnson fought Jones Calzaghe was running off at the mouth about fighting him. After that fight it was 'erm, I've got divorce troubles' then it was 'I've hurt my back'

Not at all. I expected Calzaghe to win. After all he'd waited 10 years for a weak champ to appear before he tried to unify. I don't mind people saying Calzaghe has been a good 168 champ because he obviously has, but he could have been so much more, but never had the bollocks. That's how he will be remembered by followers of the sport. The nut-huggers can think what they like.

Yeah and no doubt people were calling him a yellow bitch for pulling out of the Lacy fight... that is until he actually fought Lacy
Maybe, y'know.. just MAYBE Joe had legitimate reasons for not fighting Glen.
And maybe... just MAYBE had they fought, Joe would have handled him like he has all other opponents... ever!

Yes I'm sure his wife calling him names was a major distraction leading up to the Glen Johnson fight, poor Joe.
As I said, it's no surprise that Calslappys getting brave now, I fully expected it. Back when it REALLY counted though, Joe took on bums rather than go for Jones and Hopkins, not to mention Johnson. He might beat them now, but to those in the know Calzaghes career is all smoke and mirrors.

Seriously people like you are whats wrong with Eastsideboxing forums. Talking about something you actually know Jackshit about.
The people who held the other SMW belts who Calzaghe didnt fight whilst he was champion are Sven Ottke, Eric Lucas, Manny Siaca, Marcus Beyer.
Calzaghe DID fight Reid, Woodhall, Brewer and Mitchell who were the other champion around that time but they didnt have the belts when Calzaghe fought them. If anything fighting a former world champion whos just lost on points for instance, you dont get as big a payday, you dont get another belt, everything to lose and not much to gain. What if Calzaghe had fought Reid, Woohall etc while they actually had belts ? People wouldnt be saying shit about Joe then apart from "omg he's 7 time world champion" .
Truth is whilst they had belts they wanted no part of Joe. Then 1 or 2 fights later after they've lost them they want a crack at Joe because he's then got a belt and they havent.
There was more than 1 offer made to both Ottke and Beyer to unify, but they wanted no part.
Joe Calzaghe pulled out of 2 Glen Johnson fights, one with a back injury and another with a wrist injury.
Calzaghe was going to pull out of the Lacy fight aswell with a hand injury but Frank ****** said he wasnt going to get him another big fight if he pulled out of this one, so Joe went ahead anyway.
Lets be honest, Calzaghe would have absolutely murdered Ottke, Lucas, Siaca and Beyer. I honestly dont care that he didnt fight them because I already know what the result would be. He's actually fought better more dangerous champions IMO like Sheika, Brewer etc......not forgetting that Reid/Brewer/Mitchell ALL got robbed in Germany against Sven "decision" Ottke.
There's also people who pulled out against Calzaghe like Thomas Tate, one of the better names on Roy Jones Jr's resume. He pulled out of a fight 2 days before forcing Calzaghe to fight Mger Mchigan (However u spell it).
Yeah it would have been nice to have had a Glen Johnson vs Calzaghe fight, but it didnt happen. No one was scared of anyone, as your suggesting.

roy may still have quicker hands than joe, but no way is his footspeed there anymore. the guy has no legs, didn't you all see him lying on the ropes in his last fight.
this would be a brutal beatdown and would serve no purpose for either guy, go retire roy, you're done.

When Roy smashes Tito, and if he can avenge Glen Johnson a few months after, then this fight is a possibility! But Roy would be 40 by then, just beat Johnson then let it go Roy, You have done everything you can and more, and the real fight fans will appreciate what you did for boxing regardless.

Calzaghe has massive respect for Prime Jones.
Calzaghe would literally kill Roy in the ring now. But only out of respect, to prevent Roy tarnishing Prime Jones' legacy any further.

Jones Jr. went on to tell the site thats the scene for boxing that he scares Calzaghe, something previous opponent Winky Wright could not achieve.

RJJ still has horrible nightmares/night terrors about Glenncoffe. The dream starts off in the Carribeaan, with Bob Marley singing some reggae, and RJJ on a hammock. Then, Glen rises from a nearby grave, and is horrible, rotting, wearing his boxing gear, a Zombi, coming to get Roy, and Roy runs, but his feet are stuck in the sand, as Glen closes in, and Roy starts screaming uncontrollably, and he is awake, as the nurse and nurses aide hold him down, and inject him with 3.5ccs of Thorazine to get his old, has been ass back to sleep.
Sounds like you having nightmares about your wife trying to have sex with you :good

If Joe wants a big name fight ini the US at LHW, his best bet would b 2 fight the winner of Jones v Trinidad.
Fight Rj rather b/c he will beat Tito
B/C the fight with him and Bernard is not going to happen watch. Some1 wont b happy with the purse. All this TALK of it happening will just b talk. B-hop n Roy was suppose 2 fiht many times, but Bernard turned down the purse, and they couldnt agree on the split blah blah, this is going 2 b the same problem, Rj has already said that he will fight Calzaghe in Wales, and 2 me Rj would b a bigger draw than Hopkins.
