View Full Version : If vargas HADNT fought tito who else would he fight?
Yes i understand he had only 20 fights and was 22 years old when he fought Trinidad... i think trinidad had more championship fights then vargas had fights period....
that being said
he had just in a span of 1 year... beat winky wright, ike quartay, then a stay busy fight with ross the boss....
i dont know the dynamics of the division back then.... but with campas, marquez, winky, and ike on his victims list.... and seemingly the only other force in the division being trinidad....
who else would he have fought.
this is a real question.... maybe reid? though he had just got ruined by trinidad

If him and reid hadn't both gotten crushed a fight between them would have been huge.

What about De La Hoya, he probably would have takn him back then. I do think Trinidad took his confidence and his ability to take a punch, he showed mad heart in that fight but his next come back fith he almost got knocked out.
I like you loyalty Kirk after all fo these years still talking about Vargas.

I love the fight with Trinidad, Im a fan of Vargas and thats one hell of a fight, no shame in losing in that manner, he went down swinging. Tito ruined the guy tho, nobody can take so many flush lefts from a guy like Trinidad and keep fighting like Vargas was.

I dont think he had to fight anyone else he was ready for Trinidad and it proved during the fight he had him ready to go why else would Tito deliver a INTENTIONAL lowblow that changed the course of the fight.

The two knock downs in the first round changed the course of the fight. That was a flash knock down and Trinidad didn't need to low blow. Don't forget that Vargas also lost a point for low blows in this fight. It was a tough fight and Trinidad won and it was obvious it would from the first two minutes of the fight, he was simply too strong for Vargas. Vargas had a couple of good middle rounds, Trinidad often lost concentration like that, so I wouldn't read more into those low blows that is there if I were you.

Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows that was no flash knockdown. Tito's legs were gone and his eyes were glazy. he grabbed on to Nando's right hand to avoid the right and when Vargas came in with the left Tito did what was probably the most intentional low blow I have ever seen. I am not saying that Tito would have lost the fight though no one knows for sure but there is no way that you can look at that and seriously call it a flash knockdown. tito himself admitted that he was hurt when he was intreviewed later.

He jumped up within a second and bounced on good legs in front of Jay Nady. He wasn't hurt, flash knock down period.

We had this argument before years ago, not much point in reliving it.
