Yes...until someone beats him. In my opinion he had a draw in one JT fight and clearly one the other. So if we are trying to put Pavlik in the top 10 for beating Taylor then yes, I dont care how old he is, no one has decisevly beat him for 20 years.

Excuse my last post....Roy beat him very decisivly....sorry bout that. At this moment still top 5

I wish we could have seen him vs Toney to see who was the second best MW in that era because Jones clearly was head and shoulders above the rest back then.

Based on what?

Your own bias and self-delusion?

Let me guess...you have Calslappy ranked higher?

Of course I have Joe Calzaghe ranked higher than 10th!

Matter of fact, I cannot see how you could put Joe OUTSIDE the Top 5, any way you were to look at it!

Joe never beat a top 10 pound-for-pounder in his ENTIRE career--EVER. Hopkins beat two in his last two bouts. Get your head out of the sand and show some objectivity!

If Joe beats Hopkins in Spring...how high would you put Joe up the p4p rankings, if the fight is fairly scored and Joe wins by:

A) 1-2 rounds or SD
B) 3-4 rounds
C) 5-6 rounds
D) 7-8 rounds or more?

Hopkins is NOT losing to Calzaghe. No way in hell.

People thought Hopkins would have trouble with Wright's activity and stiff jab but he completely nullified both and made him look like a class C fighter. He will study Calzaghe and nullify Calzaghe's greatest asset and use it against him. Don't ask me how, i just know he will.

He's the Einstein of boxers and there is no peer IMO.

If Hopkins didn't know he would win this he wouldn't be the one calling Calzaghe out when it should be the other way around.

If Calzaghe were to somehow miraculously beat Hopkins, I'd rate him #3 P4P behind Pacman and Mayweather, assuming they both win their upcoming matches. If one of them loses, I'll give him the two spot; if both of them lose, quite possibly #1.

But, as klion22 duly noted, there is NO FUCKING WAY Hopkins is going to lose against Calslappy.

He doesn't seem to age:D

It's because of his style, which suits a less active (older) men. He has that style to perfection and yet...it cannot move mountains; it's more of a quagmire.

EXACTLY!

He would not fight someone if he didn't think he could win. I didn't realize that Hopkins was the one who called Wright and that Wright had no intention of fighting Hopkins until he called. That tells you a lot.

Hopkins is the most intelligent fighter alive and probably one of the most intelligent ever when it comes to ring intelligence and just knowing what to do and how to set guys up.

And another key point is that since he has moved up to LHW, he has been a different fighter in terms of activity. He has stated many times that this is the weight where he doesn't have to hold back or conserve energy because he feels like this is more of a natural weight for him.

So if Joe beats Bhop you make him 3rd, but then if he loses to Dawson you make him 2nd? And if Dawson then beats Bhop next, you make Joe p4p no. 1, even though Dawson has beaten both him and Bhop in his previous 2 matches and he is far from becoming shot? I am not sure anyone COULD agree with this...:-(

Here's three hints...

1. Bhop is over the hill
2. He doesn't have a perfect record

...so his legacy will not be affected much AT ALL and his resume, just a little bit more than his legacy

3. $$,$$$,$$$

Hopkins isn't fighting a young, powerful, and active fighter like Dawson. He's a bit too old for that type of fighter. So it's a moot point.

He's probably going to retire after he beats Calzaghe. Or maybe a final bout with RJJ after RJJ whips up on Tito. I would love to see that as these two guys are my favorite fighters.

Dude, are you fucking brain dead?

If Joe beats Hopkins, I put him #3 behind Mayweather and Paquiao ASSUMING they win their next bouts. If Mayweather of Pacman lose, Joe may go as high as #2; if they BOTH lose, I may make Joe #1.

Are you following this rather simple series of possibilities? Or do I need to elaborate further?

Again, though, it's all moot, for Hopkins is going to bitch-slap Calzaghe, who has been GROSSLY overrated ever since he beat the 1-dimensional hype-job, Jeff Lacy.

I assumed you were overreaching...and gave you too much credit for a rather sophisticated argument:

Thought you were arguing that e.g. Dawson would beat Hopkins after Calzaghe beats Hopkins and that this in itself would help Joe climb a place in the rankings from 3 to 2 on the basis that Joe must have destroyed Hopkins if he then gets beaten by Dawson, and that this would make Joe's win post facto, count for more...

Tarver was an above average fighter at best in the right place at the right time. The fact that Tarver was top 10 when Hopkins beat him is a sad indictement of boxing .Winky was useless at 170lbs and was an utterly meaningless encounter. This idea of Hopkins as an atg is being fabricated out of all proportion.
