I'm not talking about people who love Boxing and MMA, I'm talking about the boxing fans that say things like "UFC is just a bunch of brawlers" or "there's no talent or skill in MMA". Do these people not understand that Jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and Muay Thai are very technical and can take years and decades to master? Are they under the impression that MMA is more brutal than
boxing because it allows elbows and knees? Are they jealous that MMA is exploding while boxing is in decline? Or is some other reason at play?
I love boxing and MMA both, but it drives me up a wall that so many boxing fans have a negative opinion of MMA because they know almost nothing about it.

Nothing you can do. If a person is unreasonable he will be unreasonable until the truth hits him in the face and theres no way around it. People like that will NEVER listen to anyones word or any evidence that is presented to them.

Brng It Back To The Old Days. No Rules No Gloves
Dumb idea.
You don't want to see MMA get banned again do you?
Not to mention allowing knees and kicks to the groin, headbutts and pulling hair was just retarded.
Any old bum could to that.

Brng It Back To The Old Days. No Rules No Gloves
I've heard this line from several boxing fans, but this would quickly become extremely boring to watch. Very few people would want to see grown men biting and pulling each others' hair. Part of the problem with some boxing fans is that they don't even know what's going on with the ground game so it looks boring to them, though.

No, it was not great. After seeing how a dude on bottom was getting hit FULL force with punches to his little steroided testicals i dont think its anything more than a retarded idea to bring that back.

The problem is. A lot of the mma people say stuff like "ufc is taking over boxing" etc. A lot of boxing fans feel threatened and have a negative outlook on mma.

Some people are just like that. Some hate on boxing for certain reasons and some hate on MMA for certain resons.

The only possible way to turn them would be to show them old Pride events, because they will sure as hell never be excited over ufc events enough.
I've always been a hardcore boxing fan, and never thought anything of mma & the ufc until i seen the Pride Gp 2003, that made me a fan and i got into it from there!

Groundfighting is boring. I know it takes strategy and skill. So does chess. But I don't want to sit down and watch either one.
True i do not partically enjoy ground fighting but i can no appreciate it, my wife on the other hand thinks its boring as hell.
BUT also when you watch certain technical boxers in a fight deemed for "purists" only and the "sweet science" it can be argued as being boring as well.
You will never get some boxing purists to watch or get into ufc ever, the same way some people will never watch football, golf, baseball, cricket or my wosrt nightmare gaydiron. No matter what you do there will always be naysayers.

I really like the ground game. When guys are manipulating each other, one split second away from a sub, some great escapes etc I think its a joy to watch. Show some Fedor and Penn and if they don't like the moves they pull off on the ground then they aren't in to the ground side of things.

We can start by getting rid of that horrendous BodogFight theme music.

I agree. Especially in pen vs pulver 2 penn grabbing pulvers arm with his leg so he couldn't defend against the choke then getting the choke. good stuff.

You can't win over the majority of them as they don't understand the ground game, or hate all things that don't involve standing and trading leather.

I think what Oblate said is correct. Alot of idiots that are fans of MMA criticize boxing and so alot of the older boxing fans are bothered by it. MMA is a fairly young sport so some of these guys have been fans of boxing for a LONG time.
It bothers them that some folks that haven't been following combat sports as long as them are trying to derail and criticize boxing.
Hell, I've been in that boat. People that criticize boxing are dumb as shit and vice versa with mma.
I'm a fan of both and everyone person I know that does MMA respects the hell out of boxers. The problem is with the fanboys I think.

They just need to realise that its not a competition. But when you have people like Dana and Dibella saying things about each other sports everyone starts to pick sides. Personally i got respect for any aspect of the fight game and because I was a boxing fan first I feel a sense of loyalty to boxing. But at the same time Im starting to love MMA so I cant pick sides. The hardcore fans will realise that MMA is exciting when they actually change their mindset.
Boxing on the otherhand really is doing itself no favours with so many weight divisions and belts its hard to tell who is who. Boxing still has a legion of fans who will pay to see big fights e.g. Oscar/Floyd but these fights happen once in a blue moon and other fighters either too scared to fight each other or some bullshit politics in between stops all the real exciting fights happening.
MMA because its relativly new were still finding new guys who are wiiling to fight each oher and the main point is that there is only a handful of champs and divisions so its easier to follow. But to answer the question boxing fans need to realise that MMA is here to stay and that both sports can work together.

yea. those people are missing out though. As a fan of both I have so many more fights to watch then being a fan of just one. Boxing especially can have pretty long periods without a good fight so its nice to have mma and vice versa.

I'll watch MMA if it's on. I'll watch karate, kickboxing, damn near anything. I found myself watching Sumo on ESPN2 one day. I'm just telling you why it's not my favorite.
The early days of UFC were... interesting. Not better, just different. Everyone was bareknuckled, and you really got the sense you were seeing different fighting styles compete. The Tae Kwon Do guys were there in their white uniforms, the wrestlers looked like wrestlers, and so forth. Now all the fighters have evolved into identical hybrid striker/grapplers in speedos. It's logical and inevitable, but also less colorful.
On the other hand, in the real early days two guys would go to the ground and just fucking lay there for like half an hour, neither one seriously trying to dominate, with the ref having no authority to split them up.
sumo is cool. I've watched it before.

he's actually 16. saw it at the lounge because he was asking stuff about the size of his dick. stupid. and he claims to have watched all ufc and pride events and yet cannot appreciate gracie bjj. wow. that's something.
he even claims that the old fights are the best?? no way. punching directly to the groin area is just not the way to go.

depends on what fight you get them to watch, if I tuned into an MMA fight for the 1st time and saw Diego vs Kos or basically any Tim Sylvia fight, id be like fuck that boring ass shit. The same way if people tuned into Spinks vs Taylor as the 1st time they ever watched boxing.
People are going to watch it, or they arent.

I like both, but boxing more.
The one turn off I have about MMA is the complete lack of skilled punchers ( that comes from my luv of boxing of course) Then I gotta hear that idiot Rogan saying guys like Forrest Griffin are experts with there hands when Im watching the guy throw right hands from 5 ft. away at Ortiz. give me a break Rogan.
The guy ruins alot of fights for me.
Rogan AND Goldberg need to go and they need to get somebody else to do the commentating, like Quadros or Mauro or Bas(very NOT likely) or even Frank Mir I think Rogan and Goldberg are the two worse announcers in MMA.
Dostoevsky

Rogan has a really annoying whiney voice not to mention the guy is a total twat.
Goldberg is an idiot and despite commenting on MMA for about 10 years still has really no idea about the sport. Also his catch phrases that he says every fight piss me off
"We have waited on this fight our entire lifes"
"HERRRE WE GO!"
"ANNND IT IS ALLLLL OVER"
Couture is amazing though, as is Barnett.
The orginal UFC commentators were really good, what happened to them?

I understand people dissing goldberg for terrible commenting and overly repetetive. I never saw and never got an answer how Rogan is twat, asshole, idiot. People just spit it out there just cuz. I dont think he is, but im trying to understand what im not seeing that others see.
