Let's be honest, he's seen better days.

Hatton looked shit against Urango too though he's not taken punishment to be considered shot.
It could be because his style Isn't entertaining to most fans. He didn't look bad against Corley and Morua though.

I happen to agree with max, I dont think Witter has taken any punishment whatsoever to be labelled as 'shot' he may also be in his mid 30's now, but Junior is fighting well generally, got the best title & would be so 'up' for Hatton I have no doubt he would come in in the shape of his life. If the fight happened Witter would need a strong & unbiased ref to stop Hatton mauling him to death, but I dont see any UK ref who would have the bottle to protect a fighter in front of Hattons thousands of nuthuggers. That would be my only worry about this fight, cos man for man Witter would spank Hatton 7 days a week. Hes just too skillful, & hits too hard.
In a fight with a strong ref who wouldnt let Hatton bend the rules? I would pick the present days Junior Witter to beat present day Hatton easily.
Pity the fight wont happen though, cos Hatton doesnt want to give Witter 'they payday'(worst excuse of all time)

I'd like to see Hatton-Witter just to simply answer who's better. But even if he hasn't taken that much punishment he is getting on a bit and I know people will start saying Witter's shot if Hatton won.

Witter is a little past his best but I can't see him being 'shot' for another few years yet .

If Hatton fights Witter this year & beats him? Fair enough. I wont make any excuses. I have already said I think Witter right now could beat Hatton.
However if the fight happens next year, or the year after, I may have to have a rethink.
Of course, we all know in our hearts the fight will NEVER happen. Why? Cos Hatton doesnt want it. Hatton was happy to jump into the ring & dance just after Witter fought one night to goad him & then threw his gumshield at Witter another time, but when it comes to going one on one with the Hitter? Its excuse time.
See, people forget that Hatton has been at Witter fights winding him up & goading him, but you would think Hatton has been an angel in this rivalry, & Witter has been Mr nasty:-(
Hatton has goaded Witter mercilessly in the past, so hes no angel. Time for Ricky to cut the bullshit, & get in the ring with Witter & give these shores the fight we crave.

castillo fight was a passing of the tourch neds a good fighter
both british
it proves his dominance of the division
he fights top contenders
if they do fight there will only 1 loss between them
and to world champions fighting for a world championship

If Hatton beats Witter he won't get credit for beating the WBC champ who has wins over top fighters like Corley, N'dou and Kotelnik. I always says Witter is messy as fuck and looks shit if he can't land big...
...BUT you look at his record and it does speak for itself.
Hatton hates Witter but at the end of the day my mentality is this - you are fighters, disputes get settled in the ring.

Witter Hatton is the fight I have wanted to see for overe 5 years. For me its further away from happening than ever before.
The british public have been demanding this for ages.
I blame ******...lol

I don't think Hatton has any intention of fighting anyone like Witter, or Mayweather for that matter, he knows which styles suit him.

I ould just presume that Hatton is better than Witter, it would be a good tune up for Hatton if they insist on having one (why).
Im a big witter fan due to his yorkshire conections and him being good and that but Hatton is that bit better. ko hatton rd7

I agree with Mohawk. I dont think Witter is comfortable at any pace except his own.

Anyone saying Witter looked good against Corley must be blind. I was virtually ringside and he was shite. Messy as hell, lethargic...but better than Corley who seemed to forget that you have to punch in boxing.
Witter has a punchers chance against Hatton, that is all. He is wide open and he slows down dramatically past about round 7-8.
Hatton by late stoppage or easy UD.

Mcguigan v Nelson, Lewis v Bowe, Calzaghe v Ottke, now Hatton v Witter, fights that should have been made, involving British World Champions in career defining bouts.

Career defining? Hardly, I have to say. It is arguable whether Witter has ever beaten a top ten fighter. I wouldn't mind seeing this bout, but it is hardly a must-see. As somebody said on another thread, this is not a bout for the man in the pub, more one for the hardcore boxing fan. Career defining fights for Hatton are Tszyu, Castillo and in the future hopefully Cotto or Mayweather.

If the fight isnt going in the style witter wants it he looks terrible...Hatton certainly wont make it easy & would turn it into a brawl which would be very bad news for witter...........Hatton to stop him in the 8th.....

I agree with Dunky. I was ringside when Ricky jumped in the ring and mimicked Witter, to much applause! It's a well known inside joke, and a heavily publicised one that there is a certain level of needle between the two boxers.
I want to see the fight just so Hatton can shut Witter up for good. Plain and simple. But we know it won't take place because Ricky believes Junior needs to step *up* to his level, and not have Hatton step *down* to Witters.
Look at the last few fights each one of them has had. Hatton has fought names. It arguable they may not have been in their prime, but he's fought, and won (controversially against Luis Collazo, granted, and one-paced against Urango, but the Maussa fight I felt was pretty darn good).
Witter has one name on his list of viable opponents in Zabdiel Judah who at the time had just 7 more fights, and 4 years his junior. You can argue that Witter has matured later, but he's still not fought anyone late of any real name or calibre.
Even now, whilst Witter holds possible the most prestigious of all boxing federation belts, he almost been gifted it by having to fence-fight a previously heavily defeated, shot fighter on his home turf whilst play-acting. I'm sorry. I don't see why Witter should get a crack at Hatton before any body else does.
He has a belt, a good belt. Belts and titles aren't the be-all and end-all any more in boxing. Fighters make fights.
Hattons style also limits shelf life, this means with maybe 3 or 4 fights left in him at top level, he'll opt simply for the names, and the money!!
Why would Hatton take Witter over the likes of someone like Lazcano, Demetrius Hopkins, Andreas Kotelnik, or Paulie Maillignaggi? Witter isn't a name in the States so the only viable place to entertain a bout is in the UK. This equals smaller purses equals less chance.
Sorry, Witter just isn't an exciting fighter. An exhibitionist, showman, fancy, Dan, powder puncher, dancer, runner.. feel free to add/remove at your own will... but top class boxer? Nah.

some of you picking Witter must be watching a different sport. Witter simply doesn't have the work rate or punch output to even trouble Hatton. I'd be shocked if he lasted longer than the 4th round. Witter last few opponents have let him fight his game... ie stand there and posture, pout a bit, mince a bit and throw some sloppy haymakers. A decent pressure fighter will dismantle him, Witter would be a fool to want this fight imo.

Workrate doesn't mean Witter will lose to Hatton.
Hunter had workrate he got Ko'ed by Molitor and some thought he lost to Pickering.
People say pressure fighters can beat Mayweather too yet he doesn't lose.
Witter can time Hatton and has the power to hurt Hatton.

This takes intelligence, measuring your shots and mastering your range. Come on, we aren't talking about the same sloppy messy bastard are we.
I'm sure everyone will agree Witter has the talent to match Hatton but he doesn't have the intelligence nor is he polished enough. Hatton isn't particulalry polished when he is in a fight but it fits his style. Witters a sharp shooter gone wrong.
