View Full Version : My Top 10 Heavyweights: Head to Head In 2008
Superheavyweight

1. David Haye
2. Odlanier Solis
3. Juan Carlos Gomez
4. Alexander Povetkin
5. Vitali Klitschko
6. Wladimir Klitschko
7. Sultan Ibragimov
8. Ruslan Chagaev
9. Samuel Peter
10. Nicolay Valuev
I’ve left Audley out for the obvious reason (and no, not “because he’s shit”… you cunts).
He’s been through a serious car accident which has ruled him out of even training until mid-2008.
When he’s fully healed I’ll be back with my usual nut-hugging for the big man.
Anyway… what’s your top 10 head to head?
Remember this is not based on achievement, but rather who you think is the best if they fought each other.
Don’t worry about what ring magazine says or any other poster for that matter… just post your own list.
Discuss… peace.

I dont know how Hayes at 1, he has proved nothing at the Heavyweight division to get a number 1 spot. His defensive skills suck, and his chin is as bad as Wlads, all he got is power.

For a start remove Haye from the list and push Solis way down. Both may be up to the challenge one day but Solis is still a fatty and Haye has not fought anyone.

I´d find it hard to make a list like this, cause I haven´t seen enough of many of these boxers or they haven´t even had enough fights to judge them. It´s also very hard to know how good Vitali would be if he came back now.
I´ll put Wlad at top though, with Chagaev and Povetkin near the top.
I have a feeling Haye will do really well at heavyweight but it´s quite early to tell.

Terrible list LOL
Try something like this -
1. Wladimir
2. Chagaev
3. Povetkin (really interchangable with Chagaev)
4. Ibragimov
5. Peter
6. Tua
7. Ruiz/Maskaev
Not really sure about 4-7...depends on things like are Tua/Ruiz back for real? Is Peter a fraud? Does Sultan have a weak chin? Will Maskaev even fight again?
8. Gomez
9. Valuev
10. Virchis/Chambers/Holyfield
These five guys I'm even more unsure about...Virchis has murderous power but is clumsy, Chambers is small + fat + featherfisted, Valuev is unproven, Gomez looks decent but is also unproven. Holyfield is old and lost decisively to Ibragimov, but I think his chin + experience keep him a top 10 contender.
Solis + Haye I didn't rank, they are waaaay too unproven at the weight.
I left off Vitali Klitschko because I doubt he will ever fight again, but if he gets into 2004ish VK shape he would be in that top tier with Wladimir.
The problem with today's HW scene is that it's a huge styles thing...Ibragimov's safety-first style took perfect care of Holyfield, but he would get blown the fuck out by a Tua/Wlad type with fast, aggressive power.
Maskaev has skills, but his chin is so suspect that I don't know if I can favor him over any of the big hitters, either.
To top it all off, all of the big hitters (except Wlad) are so clumsy (Peter, Virchis) that it's either a brutal KO victory or a shutout decision/KO loss for them.
Jameel McCline probably deserves an honorable mention, he put up a good show against Peter.

But I would factor Vitali in there. BUt I can understand someone not putting him in there til he proves himself, again.

Superheavy I hope your list is based on whom you like, because I'm not even sure that Haye has fought at Heavyweight yet. Odlanier Solis was a great amateur but that doesn't necesseraly will make him a great pro. Well your list is your list thought and I respect it,good for you. my list of top heavyweights goes as follows in no particular order
Wladimir
Chagaev
Peter
Ruiz
Ibragimov
Valuev
Gomez
Povetkin-still young though
Dimitrenko
Maskaev

I actually think the boxrec top ten is a lot lot closer to the
mark. Maybe inter-changing Skelton at 9 with Povetkin at
13. Povetkin could be top 5 at the moment.
On their list Haye is at cruiser. Beating Tomasz Bonin is one thing ,
beating a genuine top tier HW is something else and until Haye
does something at HW to really gauge his potential it's best
to leave him out of the HW picture. #1 on 'gut feeling' is stretching
it a bit IMO.

Your list is fcukign joke .... you clown ..
Wlad is by far and away the best hw .. period
Povetkin struggled against a past-it Byrd, he'd be an underdog against Wlado
Haye has been k'od by somebody who has campaigned at super-middle and two cruiserweights ... wlad would drop him for good.
Solis is seriously out of shape and hasnt even faced a top ten hw yet.
Gomez is in for a tough night with Virchis, he has no chance against either Klitschko or the other beltholders. What makes you think he'd beat any of them.
Do us all a favour, fcuk off and delete your esb account.

Well, um, yes actually that's ridiculous, isn't it? :huh What makes you think Haye, Solis, Povetkin or :yep Gomez have a shot at beating Wlad at this point? Haye has fought exactly 1 overated HW to this point. Povetkin & Solis have fought good Heavys early in their pro careers but how does that make them favored to beat Wlad?

Lets re-phrase this. You have picked four heavweights that you hope can beat Wlad! You have got something against him, that is clear from putting boxers like Solis and Gomez as being able to beat when they have not even beaten any of elite yet.
