Hello ESB, I am 23 and my goal is to make it into amateur boxing so I am posting here to keep myself accountable. I'm keeping a pen & paper log also but I plan to post here at least once a week.

I've never been very athletic so I know I need to work on conditioning big time.

So without further ado:

11/04/04
2x 3 min shadow boxing (warm up)
2 miles 22:27 @ ~150-160 bpm (I suck big time I know)

Pyramid no break, went up to 5:
Diamond push-ups
V-ups
Pull-ups
(failed at pull-ups part)

I'm taking a break from the gym (but not training) due to final exams at uni and will be back in May..

SlickMick

Ran 6 miles in total last week. Shaved off 1 minutes so since I restarted training in february, my best is 20:45 for a 2 miler.

Can do 60 pushups, 2 minutes plank, around 25-30 mountain climbers and around 8 pull-ups.

It`s a bit hectic due to due to final exams, but I should still manage to run 6 miles this week.

With the idea of keeping myself accountable, I am coming back from a 5 day break due to finals and (my nemesis) procrastination.

I feel soreness in my lower back (I guess my months and months, if not years of inactivity tell me I should go SLOWLY), so I shall go easy today.

11/04/18

Morning:
45:26 3 miles

Evening:
2-3 minutes breaks between each sets

(25 push-ups + 10 plyometric push-ups) x 3

2:15 min plank
25 pushups
2:00 min 6 inches feet off the ground

25 pushups
1:30 min push-up hold

SlickMick

Raining... damn is the run today going to suck big time.

Posting my times tommorow.

SlickMick
04-21-2011, 04:24 PM
Well, lucky me, I waited a bit, there was a lull in the rain so I didn't get wet.

3 miles @ ~ 42 minutes (shaved off 3 minutes,yeh!)

10 minutes break

(50 squats + 10 half jump squats ) x 3

2 min break

1:43 min invisible chair

2 min break

50 crunches
50 side crunches (each side)
10 lying hip swings

2 min break

50 twists

20 supermen

Not related to boxing, but training is training:

26/04/11

Ruckmarch /w around 35 lbs rucksack (will weight ruck in due time)
10 kms in around 1h 45 min

I have a 13 km ruckmarch in two weeks and a half (with about 10-15 lbs extra) with the army, so I have to take that into consideration. Today was a confidence booster, I was worried that I was gonna have to change what I was doing since I didn't ruck since last year, but 1 or 2 extra practice ruckmarches should do the trick.

SlickMick
04-30-2011, 06:50 PM
29/04/11
3 miles @ 132 bpm , 42:00 minutes

50 pushups
20 diamond pushups + 10 plyometrics push-ups
20 wide pushups + 10 plyometrics push-ups
8 hindu push-up + 10 plyo
10 chair/depth push-ups
40 push-ups.

abs
~ 2:00 plank
~1:30 feet 6 inches off the ground

3/4 through my run, I realized that I didn't pay any attention to running technique. I will be careful tomorrow, and my times should improve a lil bit.
I went too easy on the abs and the running part.

SlickMick
05-15-2011, 08:16 AM
14 may 11

Did a few one-legged squats,a few scissor kicks and V-ups.

Stuck on a domestic deployment, didn't bring my running shoes because I taught it was going to be only 1 week...:patsch

SlickMick
05-20-2011, 06:43 PM
I finally have access to a laundry room as well as a bed. No access to a gym and no way to have my running shoes shipped here (I might be moving soon) so meh.

Bottom line: read the fine prints when signing contracts with the army.

First time I worked out since my last entry:

4 x 30 push-ups
1:00 plank
1:00 feet 6 inches off the floor
2-1-2-2 pull ups on a door frame

SlickMick
06-13-2011, 12:38 PM
This is keeping me accountable...

13/07/11

2 miles 18:58 (I checked my run route with mapmyrun.com, and realised that I was off by about .4 miles or something)

I worked out a few times before that but didn't keep up with my log. I have access to good sleeping quarters running shoes and a gym so no more excuses!!!!

SlickMick
06-23-2011, 10:47 PM
Holy crap, I really suck at keeping a log. I'm lazy so I will have to step up my workouts.

23/06/11

2 miles -19 minutes something...

I finally got to a boxing gym so:

4x rounds skipping rope
2x shadowboxing (movement only)
4x shadowboxing
4x heavybag
2x speed bag

SlickMick
06-28-2011, 11:50 AM
27/06/11

3 miles -34 :00 (this surprised me a bit, I may have simply lost count of the laps or something)

36-30-20 push-ups
1:10 plank

10 minutes skipping rope (I can now do cross-overs,yeeeeh!)
4 rounds shadowboxing
4-5 heavy bag rounds
2 rounds speedbag

The numbers are not impressive but I'm really out of shape and feel sore : I must be doing something right.

SlickMick
07-04-2011, 07:35 PM
1/ 07/11

3 miles @ 30 minutes

I did abs + couple of rounds of heavy bags. I came to the gym late so it was shorter then usual

2/07/11

10 minutes jump rope
12 mins shadowboxing (with random 30 seconds breaks)

5 rounds heavy bags
2 rounds speed bag

6-8 pull-ups

50-30-30 crunches
1:20 invisible chair

NB: each round is around 3 minutes.

SlickMick
07-08-2011, 10:16 PM
I ran yesterday...

37:00 3 miles

The reason why there is such a disperency between this entry and the one 3-4 days ago is that I am running outside instead of an indoor high school track which apparently makes a big difference.

25 pushups
15 diamonds
15 wide
15 (one hand up one hand low)
15 (one hand up one hand low)
25 push ups

1:20 plank

8 pull-ups
8 chin ups

SlickMick

I feel sick today... I'll take a break from the training and post back when I'll feel better.

Things I can improve lifestyle-wise:
-On work days, instead of doing the whole enchillada, I should do more minimalist training and up the intensity instead of doing nothing at all. (ok, maybe I am taking the easy way out, but after a 12 hours shift, I really don't want to spend an hour + at the gym)
-The last few days,I read in bed and I fell asleep without closing the lights, which is not good for mental recovery (often, even if I am super tired, I will wake up after only 5-6 hours of sleep. After a few days like this, I am usually less alert and somewhat sleepfucked).
-I really need to plan my meals in advance. Right now, I am eating stuff in a really ad hoc fashion and sometime skipping meals altogether.

Meal plan coming up after I put some taught in it.

SlickMick
07-20-2011, 10:44 PM
I did intervals today -- 30 seconds jog , 15 seconds on @ 70% intensity for 20 minutes. I had to cut it short because I had to go to work.

Proteins:
Bolognese chicken
Turkey
?
Protein shake(can I afford this?)
I'll take a further look at cold cuts in the weekend.

Carbs:
Apples(cheap)
Bananas(relatively cheap)
Strawberries (not too much, it costs $$$)
Red Pepper (those huge ones, not the super spicy ones)
?

Fats:
Nuts and almonds

Ideally, I would eat this 3-4 a day, and just go to the cafetaria/work for the remaining 3-2 times.

I don`t have access to cooking facilities except a microwave so my choices are rather limited.
I`m also quite broke, so I`ll post how it goes, and will adapt in consequences.

SlickMick
07-22-2011, 06:44 PM
Yesterday:

10 minutes rope skipping
60-30-30 push-ups
0:45 sec plank
0:45 6 inches off the ground (dunno the real name for this)
8-8 pull-ups

SlickMick
07-27-2011, 02:53 AM
I worked out 5 days this week.

Even though my scores suck balls, I'm happy, but I don't feel so sore that I am bed ridden and completely unmotivated. Just gotta rest a bit and I`m gonna be good to go for next week.

SlickMick
08-05-2011, 06:47 PM
this log is suffering from inactivity... Worked out 4 days last week.

Note to self: reserve myself 10 minutes next tuesdays so that I can write a proper entry, instead of this measly summary.

Made a DIY maize ball yesterday.

SlickMick
09-08-2011, 08:33 PM
So much for the 10 minute on Tuesday.:?

Sparred today --3 rounds. 4-5 rounds of ,2 rounds on the double end bags.

I feel sleepy and somewhat light headed. I'm taking a lot of shots but slowly it's getting better. I have a big problem in that I raise my chin and close my eyes as if I was afraid of getting hit.

I'm pretty sure it will go away with proper practice. Even while shadowboxing, I sometime turn my head while hooking/I don't look where I'm going/etc.

I just need more time in front of the mirror.

I'm gonna go for a run tonight and see how it goes.

SlickMick

I've been examining my lifestyle lately, and I just realize that I have to make many improvements.

I've been thinking about a lot of things. Money is #1... Getting regular, normal sleep is #2... Nutrition #3.

I really wish I had enough money right now, so I could just take time off work and I wouldn't be stressed about it.

Ok... I'm gonna make a confession.I have a lot of social anxiety and often I feel very self-conscious.

I have to say I like to work alone, and I don't often listen to people (even coaches, trainers).
Sometime, I look not very approachable. People tell me I look always angry or stressed. I have good reasons to be angry, bitter at life but I want to leave that part of me behind so that I can get better at boxing (more specifically in this case, defense). Forgive, forget and move on so to speak.

From this day on, I'm gonna make improvements in my attitude... I'm gonna start listenning, and I'm gonna start working with people. if only to improve my fledging defensive and add to the good humor at my gym!

Well, another day another journal...

Time to put these new years resolutions into action.

SlickMick

24 minutes 2 miles.

170 lbs @ 5'7

Yes I know, I am out of shape and I am overweight. It is quite a frustrating experience.

SlickMick
01-26-2012, 09:44 AM
Ok well I ran three times a day this week with similar result in average as the post before (best:21 minutes, worse 27).

I skipped a day due to a ridiculous amount of procrastination.

I truly think right now that the blocks are mental more then anything so I will post some more when I have more time (gotta go to work).

SlickMick
01-29-2012, 10:45 AM
Ok, we'll I've been running 3 times a week for around 2 weeks now,I know it's nowhere near enough but

I'm going to go back to the gym tommorow. I feel pretty shameful my effort has been largely inconsistent (and I know it looks really bad), but I know also that shame is a toxic emotion, I have to go through it and that's it's never too late to turn things back around.

Even if I'm out of shape and I suck today, it doesn't mean I can't become good later on down the road.

Cheers Puma.:happy

Instead of running outside, I ran on a threadmill today. I clocked my 2 miles at something under 19 minutes at a 1.0 incline on the threadmill.

My heartbeat at the end was 135. I guess I could work slightly harder.

SlickMick
02-02-2012, 07:32 PM
Well, yesterday was my first boxing workout at the gym.

Yesterday:
7 rounds shadowboxing + 2 rounds movement only
5 rounds heavy bag
2 rounds on the double-end bag

I'm re-starting sparring this saturday morning.

I just saw somebody that I didn't see in a long time, and he told me I got better. It felt good to hear that because my coach takes a fairly hands-off approach to training (just a few word, do this, do that, work on this, work on that).

SlickMick

Will post more about my schedule and workout later on during the weekend.

Today: same as last entry on 02/02.
I no longer feel sick but I am still procrastinating like crazy.

Today same as 02/02 minus the cardio and more heavy bags rounds.

To do list:
Shopping list for groceries
Draft a plan for a conditioning routine
Look for a fridge for the office.

SlickMick
02-15-2012, 09:49 PM
Ok, I'm really busy at work right now, but for the sake of completeness/holding myself accountable, I went for a run on Tuesdays. 2 miles in 25 minutes.

I still reek when I think of these numbers because while I never was particularly athletic, I still used to be able to comfortably fit 3 miles in that time. Oh well, further motivation to get better.

SlickMick
02-17-2012, 02:32 PM
Ran 25 minutes, two miles this morning, will try out the total ESB beginner workout A tonight... I doubt that I can complete it but whatever.

Consistency Mick... consistency.

SlickMick
02-29-2012, 04:20 PM
ran yesterday about the same times.

I feel slimmer, if only because I reduced the calorie intake I have because my office does not have a fridge.

SlickMick
03-01-2012, 04:57 PM
Yeah, I lost 4 lbs, and I`m at 166.

Just 16 more to go to reach my goal.

Will run some more today.

Holy fuck, I am fat as shit. I taught my bodyfat % was hovering at around 13-15 as I look pretty normal/average but I am at a staggering 17 % as of now. Those numbers don't lie.

For those who are interested, I used this:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

I'm collecting Zone recipes as of now and amma gonna post them here throughout the evening

If I trust this calculator, my lean body mass is around 133 lbs... Shit, I have a lot of work to do.

@ work right now.

Just did 50 pushups between two calls, I felt I could have done more but don't want to be a sweaty mess soooo (excuses excuses I know, feel free to lambast me). I'm slow as hell, but at least I could be a LOT worse in the push-ups department.

Going for a run when I get back home.

Keep up the good work :thumbsup

When you get in shape you are going to feel awesome. As you get better at boxing and get in shape you are going to burst with self-esteem.

And maybe one day when/if you fight in the amateurs, you're the one everybody is looking up to.

It's harder to keep motivated now because physical prowess counts for much less in social standing, but I shall keep going. I wish I had taken up boxing earlier instead of going for the army reserves.... I think I would have been a more diciplined/better person overall.

Woke up at 7:16 AM today, my alarm clock failed to go off at 6 (or maybe I just didn't hear it because I slept so deeply).

Anyway I ran, around 26 minutes for 2 miles. I need to step it up a bit and really get into a routine.

That my life is such a mess right now... I didn't go the the gym at all this month because I wanted to focus on work, but the truth is I spent my free time just doing fuckall so I might as well go back.

Starting april 1st (and no this isn't an april's fool ), this is my schedule:

Run days

6 AM: Wake up and take a quick Zone snack + run
6:45-0730:
0800: arrive at work
4:45 finish work
5 arrive at gym

(the way my gym works, it's pretty ad hoc basis, so that's why I'm leaving a large margin. If there's a lot of people for sparring for example, I might wait for quite a while before my turn comes.)

6:30-7 outta da gym
7-10 PM supper + eat + leisurly readings

Will workout some more this evening.

Everybody respect a fighter, including the most important person. Yourself! When people see you have that self respect they will start to treat you differently.

I think physical prowess counts for alot in social standing. alot.

I'm getting back into the groove. I restarted sparring last week. "more stamina more technique" is the verdict so I have to keep up with the running.

I bought some L-glutamine and multivitamin and so far, it seems to work like a charm.
