View Full Version : Future of Boxing - fighters under 25 only

Around 2003, I made a thread like this talking about future P4P stars based on their age etc, I picked Pacman and Taylor to be top P4Pers (many said Pac was too 1 dimensional and Taylor wasn't good enough).

So now Mayweather/Hatton/Delahoya/Wlad/Pacman are nearer the end of their careers who are the future P4P stars THAT ARE UNDER 25 AND NOT P4P ALREADY?????

1. Chad Dawson (24) - very skilled, already beat many peoples no1 HW in Adamek, could be P4P with the right fights in the next 2-3years

2. Povetki (27) - hey hes 25 in heavyweight years :D, huge prospect - next HW champ?

3. Paul Williams (25) - young and HUGE at 147, his next fight will tell us ALLOT whether he'll make it or not, as he has technical weaknesses but many champs have done. If he beats Margarito he may go on to be a great

4. Boystov (21) - looks like the russian tyson

5. Juan Diaz (23) - only 23 and already isn't too far away. He has some excellent scalps particularly in his Freitas win and has been a belt holder for 2years already. He should stay at lightweight and clean house though because a move up to 140 would be too much for him

6. Romanov (24) - also at lightweight, not the most active fighter sadly but with plenty of talent and a big puncher reminicent of Tyszu. Was pretty rusty for his 1 loss and it was a close call (I had him winning)

7. Valero (25) - quite raw but brutal power, if he gets a shot at Pacman and wins (which he may do) he jumps into the P4P rankings.

8. Bautista (21) - already fighting Deleon for the 122 WBO belt. Certainly has a big future if he can pass his acid test. Some questions were asked last time out and his big punch didnt look quite as amazing

The best prospects look to be over 25 but this thread is for those under. Who are your picks? :bbb

+David Haye - Future CW linear champ & HW Title holder
+Juan Diaz - Be around the lighties for a long time, great chance.
+Travis Simms(ok ok he's 36 but he was a late starter, so in boxing term's he's 25:yep) - Can beat ANYONE from 47 to 54 on a given night, will he get his chance though?

Watch out for the young Chechen Zaurbek Baysangurov who fights on the undercard of Wlad vs Brewster. He looks like a sure bet for a future title holder.Great and very promising talent!

He is a thread to the whole jr. middlweight division and will be a big player at middleweight in the future.

I will watch his European Championship bout next week live in Cologne...

OK man, Juanma is a combination of the Felix Trinidad punching power with the boxing ability of Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gomez. He has the talent to be better than Trinidad and Cotto. Truely is a new version of Wilfredo Gomez.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr looks excellent.

Chad Dawson is an easy one to pick, he's already just about proved himself as the No.1 lightheavyweight in the world.
(Considering Hopkins stepped down)

David Haye looks good - I think he can and will beat Mormeck, but how much he accomplishes at heavyweight is something I'm not confident enough to predict just yet.

I didn't think Bautista looked anything special, same goes with Pavlik - Haven't had a chance to watch Boytsov.

Diaz looks fundamentally excellent but decidedly unspectacular. I expect him to do well but pick up a few losses against top level competition.

Vernon Paris is a future star he's only 19 hard as hell to hit.

I saw him fight a few times (live once and on TV) and he is very elusive indeed.

Ted Sares said he hasn't seen moves like Paris since a young Pernell Whitaker and Doug Fischer said he is like a poor man's Floyd Mayweather.

To early to tell I guess, but he's got potential
