The current middleweight scenario

I just want to post something about because I found some interesting infos in the German media.

The main point here is:

Taylor will fight Pavlik (nearly a done deal)

Abraham will fight Gevor (also close of being a done deal, most likely 8.18.)

Sturm will fight Griffin (UBP wants to shift the bout to mid October)

So this is the initial position.

Here are the important infos:
If Taylor wins against Pavlik it is said that he will unify with Abraham at the end of '07 given that AA wins vs. Gevor.
If Pavlik wins against Taylor it is said he will fight Sturm in early '08 given that Sturm wins vs. Griffin.

The middleweight division is real interesting right now...here is what I think will happen:

Pavlik TKOs Taylor and Taylor decides to move up to super middleweight
Abraham TKOs Gevor
Sturm UDs Griffin

Pavlik TKOs Abraham late and moves up to super middleweight
Abraham rematches Miranda and stops him
Abraham and Sturm fight for Sturm's belt and Abraham wins making him the man at middleweight

Out of those three fights Sturm vs Griffin is probably the least interesing one.Griffin is a decent boxer,but Sturm should win that fight quite easily.
Pavlik vs Taylor could go either way,but I for my part tend to bet my money on Taylor.
Abraham vs Gevor could be a true war -pure fun to watch.Gevor,the Armenian warrior is an extremely entertaining and exciting fighter who can make the water very hot for his compatriot Abraham.
Nevertheless I will put my money on Abraham by late stoppage or close point decision.

Winky has the perfectly wrong style against Pavlik.

Puttin on the ear muffs isnt going to help against Pavlik's power, and Winky, to be effective of late, either has to push forward, or stand in the pocket. His days of moving effectively laterally have passed.

Same goes for Abraham.

I agree. Stylistically, Pavlik is a nightmare for Winky. He throws straight shots with so much power that either A) they will break right through his guard or B) they will hit his guard and still hurt Winky anyways. Winky uses his mitts for his head protection instead of good head movement, which isn't the best for a fighter who throws extremely powerful straight punches.

Not that Winky couldn't win, hell, Winky Wright is a great fighter. Just that Pavlick could give him absolute fits.

Go to boxrec and have a look at Abraham's fight record! Then come back and claim again that Abraham hasnt fought anyone who can actually punch back!
His next opponent Khoren Gevor is a very dangerous challenge.

i agree with you on your opinion on sturm. he is really a bottomfeeder.

but abraham is a different kettle of fish. he beat guys like eastman, ikeke, miranda and janthua(although he was only a jr. middle).

I hope you're right, and I think you probably are. I would love to see Kelly Pavlik stay at 160, and become THE MAN at 160 like Haglar was. I think he can do it if he avoids the title collecting obsession that has been so popullar for the last several years.

As impressive and Pavlik's victory against Miranda was his fight record is still not as good as Abraham' s or Sturm's one.Dont get me wrong,guys! I dont intend to say that Sturm could beat Pavlik.No,not at all.I for my part wouldnt bet a single coin on Sturm against Pavlik,but IMO both the Armenian and Sturm still have a better fight record than Pavlik at this point of time.
I am not sold on Sturm at all,but honour where honour is due.
We have to be fair-even towards fighters you are not that keen to watch.
