I say....prime for prime,Marvin takes it in a close barn-burner.The only reason Marvin would win it is his hard beard.

Close war this one.

I think Greb would probably outwork Hagler to take it on the score cards in a vicious war. Hagler could win but he would need a smart fight plan.

Fo sho...Certainly not the way he fought Leonard...He'd have to bring his mauling-intensity-pnching all the time-game plan.I think Harry was the better boxer...So Marvin's only chance was to make it a war.He can take harry's shots...His beard was steel.

But what a fight!!!!

If I were Haglers trainer I would be telling him to press Greb on the inside and back him up using a sustained body attack. Above all dont give him room to breathe let alone set up his windmill attack.

I was wondering if Hagler is a better boxer than Greb and Greb is more suited to brawling.

It would help to have some film of Greb but-

It dose seem that he could box when he wanted to. He was just more efective as a swarmer. He ocasionaly abandoned his windmill attack and fought a tactical fight. Interestingly he did this when he fought Johny Wilson for the middleweight title.

I dont think he would do this against Hagler though.

My point also. Hagler was underrated as a boxer becuase of the destruct and destroy mode he was in

Ok, fair enough. I had the impression he was mostly swarmer extraordinaire.

Your impresion was broadly correct but he ocasionaly for no aparent reason used a different style.

I don't know how we can really do mythical matchups with guys in which there is a lack of film. We've seen Greb mess around in training...how many fights of his are on film?

On the other hand, we've seen many fights of Hagler that shows his skills and versatility, the ability to both box and brawl, his jab, combos, parrying, etc....

I rank Greb higher all-time due to his resume, but head-to-head I can't call it because of the scarcity of footage.

Im willying to let greb off for the lack of film, just because i nearly freak out when ever i look at the guys he fought in his career, you dont do that and win if your no good, such a pity theres not even one round of him in action, but also so many people back then, say he was the dogs bollocks that is good enough for me,but i can see hagler winning on points or he stops him real late.

Until we actually see him we can only guess what they meant by 'the human Windmill'...

C'mon lads Hagler wins...:smoke

Greg by sheer volume of punches & work rate.
As much as I like Hagler I think he gets outworked & never gets his rythem going in this one.

Juan Roldan was giving all sorts of problems in their 1984 fight. His constant pressure and awkwardness were very effective in this fight. Then Hagler thumbed Roldan in the eye and the momentum shifted to Hagler. Greb's style would be a nightmare for Hagler.

Greb UD 15 Hagler

Agreed, good post!

Not enough video of Greb to really decide this one but we're talking about one of the greatest fights of all time! I like Hagler by decision if Greb can't disrupt Marvin's timing and nullify his jab but I would'nt put any money on it.
