I've been taught the basic mechanics of kicking from an MMA fighter and yours look fine. Kicks definitely don't take near as long as punches, in terms of developing skill. On your roundhouse kick (back leg) you want to twist your hips, pivot your front foot and keep your hands up (I noticed on a few kicks you let your hands fly loose). The straight kicks looked good.

ingar i really encourage you to join a kickboxing gym. your kicks arent bad but you will learn bad habits. just practice your hands. and definetly join your HS wrestling team.

Try kick with your shins in round kicks.
When you throw a combo you usually must end it with a low kick or a kick to head or chest.
If your opponent uses his hands more use your legs and vice versa.
There are a lot of exercises to strethen your legs to be able to take a good low kick.
Also you should try to use your whole bodyweight like punches.
Not bad for beginner. You have physical potential but you have a lot of training to do if you are seriously about kickboxing.
PS I noticed that they are confusing here kickboxing with full contact a lot.
Those are different sports. In full contact you kick above waist in kick boxing you also use low kicks which are a very powerful weapon especially if you train your legs properly.
Anyway nice job. Keep up the good work. Impressive as always!

I know a little bit from messing around with wrestlers, but nothing serious.
I have this Canadian/American friend who wrestled on the high national level in the States, he could show me some shit.

Hey Ingar. Haha looks like you've gotten rusty with the feet from lack of maintenance. I see what you're trying to do, I think Boxing has made you awkward with trying to re-integrate something you used to do.

Anyways just a few pointers, if you're launching lead hooks kicks, keep your standing leg straight. Your weight needs to be concentrated on the standing leg, and make sure that you pivot on the heel so that the toe is pointing 180 degrees away from your opponent. Try to snap the kicking leg more, by first raising a fully bent knee and at the last second, flick out the shin part.

When you follow up with a spin kick, dont let it come out in an arch (very vulnerable due to balance issues and counter-attack). It should be more of a straight out side kick which upon rotation, suddenly whips out at the last second. REmember to twist your head to face the target for a split second before releasing the kick.

Again, front kicks, need to raise the knee *first* before flicking the shin out. Makes it faster and snappy. Lean your body away from your kicks to give it more reach and counter-balance.

Welcome back to it. I know you will have to restretch, retrain, re-coordinate and somehow mix it up with your punching; almost an anti-thesis of everything you trained in Boxing. But it looks like you have the speed and agility with your feet. I've yet to see a JKD + Boxing person in MMA and I think that type of fighter would do particularly well. We'll see huh?

Ingar what happened to the hands? The last video I saw of you shadow boxing they were insanely quick, do they slow down that much with gloves?

Nice hands and a good left kick. Need to work more on developing power in that right kick, but it looks like your getting good hip rotation. Nice technique.

I'm faster than I've ever been as far as I know. I basically just have better delivery now, my hands travel further and each punch is fully completed before the next one comes. They're much more powerful to boot. Also, I'm hitting an object now, not just air, so that's why bagwork looks slower than shadowboxing I guess.

I think you're just remembering a tad bit wrong perhaps also, maybe you should see my previous videos again and see if you can see what I mean?

Thanks! Yeah, I was told I need to plant the leg I'm standing on more, that'll help with the power issue for sure. Did some work on it today actually, the bag dented a lot easier. :D

What the fuck happened to the "Edit post"-function?
Anyways, I just checked, Marcum.
My hands look faster than ever as far as I can see, really. I didn't really check my hands much prior to posting the video, but my technique as well as my speed has improved tons even though I haven't been boxing for 3-4 months. The speed issue is due to me training nothing but speed for football in this period, though.

very impressive for the amount of kicking training youve done.
have you tried switching stances?
when i did karate in order to get alot more power into my right leg roundhouse kicks (left for you) id switch just before so it be throwing it from my back foot. This takes a bit more time than if u didnt switch but give it a go next time your sparing and see how it feels.

Real men fight with the least amount of restrictions and rules as possible. Real men are free men!.. Or something like that, didn't you see "300"?

I like it that way, a kick feels so much more powerful. You do whatever you feel like. ;)

Thanks. I tried it, yeah. But I figured it is much more worthwhile to spend my time practising on my left roundhouse first.

Good movement and power looks good, try to stop dropping your right hand on those round house kicks...in fact tucck your elbows in and hands on chin and deliver the front kick...much more effective in the ring then the high roundhouse kicks.

Nice. The kicks look pretty good and quick, especially since you're more or less a newcomer to them. All the advice the others have given is on the mark--don't get discouraged, just keep working at the details.

Just a suggestion, which you are more than welcome to drop promptly into the kitty box. ;) My background is in Shito Ryu Karate and Yi Chuan (fifteen years now). Neither is very kick oriented (about as far from Tae Kwon Do as the spectrum allows). When I decided to start working on my kicks, here's what I did.

Kept the emphasis on form. It's always tempting to kick the living $#!* out of the heavy bag but you'll get more return on your investment if you aim for slower, less powerful, fluid movements at first. Believe me, the power will come. Focus on relaxing your hips a LOT. Let the kicks come from your hip and body movement so that they're more the product of a whip-like motion (this is true of front kicks, roundhouse kicks, spin kicks, knees, etc., all of which you were using in the vid). Just like you don't want to punch with just your arms, you don't want to kick with just your legs. (Rest assured, you're not, but as you improve your form and get your hips more involved, you'll find an increase in both speed and power.)

This isn't a one week or one month fix. I've been both the teacher and the taught with respect to this one and in both cases it often takes between six months and a year to become noticeably more fluid. You can still kick the crap out of the bag from time to time and practice combos, keeping your hands up, etc., but the classic zen adage does apply here--to faster and more powerful you want to become, the slower and more "gentle" you must practice. Only then can you leave the temple. ;)

Again, nice stuff to start with. Keep workin' and keep the faith! :thumbsup
