good right hand
07-03-2007, 05:13 AM
i remember dominique gwinn, throw short small compact over hand right in a clinch! and knocked down or out (i forgot which) his opponent ezzra sellers.
a classic was the great gene fullmer getting knocked out by arguably the greatest fighter of all time sugar ray robinson with a left hook that was only about 6-9inches wound up.

Watch Joe Louis against just about anybody, and you'll witness a clinic on short, effective punching.

Completely agreed.
I don't even think Tyson saw that punch landing. Just so fast and completely instinctual.

Tyson showed some heart after that punch. He looked genuinely concerned. Only if he would have kept his marbles through the years...

Razor Ruddocks uppercut on Tommy Morrison that knocked him down was really short but right on the chin. Was a good punch

Tyson/Botha was classic. I remember Tyson in the post fight interview with Jim Gray. He was saying how a lot of people said he had no character, then looks at gray and says: "Do I have character now"

yeah but he was pushing tito when he threw that. We all know a strong breeze could knock tito over as off balance as he was most of the time.

Tyson's very short shot that dropped Botha.
But I think Tyson had destroyed several of his long list of KO victims with short shots that were barely even launched, and the opponent was down.

That was a full right hand that was completely extended. A good punch but not really what I would call tight and compact.
Tyson/Botha does it for me...perfect shot
