View Full Version : First its cotto, then it will be williams, then it will be the next guy...
Mayweather has been fighting his whole life..... the people complaining that hes not fighting cotto, im going to play devils advocate here...
Before he fought judah.... all we heard about was how judah was his toughest opponent, i for one thought judah would give mayweather real problems, judah was beat by baldomir....
all of a sudden the guy mayweather was scared of was hatton, ring clamored for the fight, ect, ect....
mayweather still fought judah (who one fight prior was his biggest threat) beat him....
then... beat the man that beat judah
now he defeats hatton, those were the two champions of 140lbs anyways...
now its cotto...
and i garuntee you, by the time a fight would be signed, training, then fight time..... fans will already be moving on to how he better fight williams or hes scared.
it was the same thing with lennox lewis and it will always be the same with every dominant champion who has a lot of options around him, there will ALWAYS be that one person next.... when will he stop?
first off, i dont think he has any buisness fighting williams as thats not fair in the slightest....
i DO think he should fight cotto, im not saying i dont think he should, im just saying i totally see mayweathers point of view..... there are a LOT of good fighters out there right now, and as much as i would love to see mayweather throw caution to the wind and go out there and beat cotto, margarito, mosley.... i see his point of view too and i think some of you should try a little harder to not be so blind to everything else but what YOU think, the man wants a vacation.

Fans want Mayweather to fight Cotto because Cotto is the clear #1 contender and has earned his shot, something Hatton has never done.

Very true.. I'de rather see him face Cotto though..

ya, and after that.... williams will have defeated cintron, and then HE will be the next contender that has earned his shot.... and fans will demand mayweather fights HIM, then by then i garuntee you there will be someone else... hell maybe margarito will fight his way back to the top and we will be calling for that. Mayweather is 30 years old and wants a break.... it wouldnt end with cotto. hes got to get a break sometime.

The reson for this is mayweather personality, look in oz tszyu is a god and his career paised to no end and he didn't fight mayweather and It was according to media mayweather was scared and it was all mayweather doing. I told people that tszyu doesn't hold a candle to mayweather in achivement inside a boxing ring and this guy mayweather will be inside the top 10 of all time by the time he is done.

People just want to see Floyd lose. If Cotto and Willams don't do it, Floyd will be a pussy for not fighting the next guy on their wishlist. This is America. Floyd is too built up. Many need to see him getting torn down.

I don't know why Williams is even in this conversation at all. He simply isn't "there" yet. A very talented fighter with alot of upside, but he needs more big fights under his belt before PBF should even think about him.
Cotto, especially after the Mosley fight, deserves a shot at him, and I think it's gonna eventually happen.

Yes there are alot of trolls here who will always say "this guy will destroy mayweather........mayweather is a runner.......mayweather never beat no one..........."" just your basic:| :|
but look at the bright side: after the fight all the losers are proven wrong over and over again. and we can make fun by totally taking the piss out of them over and over again.
just cause they are retarded dont mean we cant have fun with them:happy

Well said. By the time the Cotto fight is signed, the detractors will already be preaching that Mayweather is ducking the next fighter on their list.

Judah had just loss to Baldomir...which many believed was a setback in his career. Fighting Baldo was just a joke...noone gave Baldo a chance of winning that fight...the odds was ridiculously in Floyd"s favor. Bruseles had no business fighting Floyd...so tell me who really thought hatton would win?...I mean beside his Brit fans...I can tell you I was rooting for Hatton, but I didn't think he could win...especially because of his performance against Collazo. I feel PBF like to handpick his opponents. Mark my words, PBF will not fight Cotto!!

Who do you want him to fight if not Cotto or Williams? They're the top welterweights. Mosley just got outboxed by Cotto and Cintron looked like shit in his last fight. Floyd's in his prime and it would be a shame if he doesn't keep on fighting.

^ When you have a lot of money in the bank, have been fighting since 3 yrs old, and have chronically bad hands that need a rest, no....6-7 months might not be enough time.
And CarlosV, if you really and truly believe Cotto will beat Mayweather.....IF you really believe that......don't worry, that fight WILL happen. And when it does happen, there will be another Johnny-come-lately that mayweather will be ducking.

I think Floyd's resume is pretty awesome, with angel manfredy, carlos hernandez, jesus chavez, (who both regained titles after floyd beat them) genaro hernandez, an undefeated corrales, castillo, the big punching n'dou, de la hoya, hatton, chop chop, judah, a somewhat shot mitchell.
His weak opponents, brusseles, baldomir, gatti, a few others, aren't terrible - just fillers.
In my mind he has done enough in such impressive and stylistic fashion he should not have to worry about fighting cotto. I would have liked to see him in there with Mosley, who I think did enough to draw with Cotto and had the momentum of the fight down the stretch, but Floyd does not need to be fighting a 6'1++ Paul Williams, who really shouldn't be fighting at welterweight at that height anyway. He has done enough and more to be an ATG.

I sort of agree and sort of disagree. Mayweather has been a significant favorite in every fight since he became a star, and he's so good you expect that to happen.
But while he was fighting Baldomir, and Hoya, and Hatton, the guy I've consistently said would beat him is Williams. I'm not bringing up his name after dropping someone else's; he's the one I've thought would defeat Mayweather all along.
Cotto would have a chance, and Williams would be the favorite in my mind.
Which is not the same as saying Williams can call Floyd out or deserves the fight. I agree he isn't there yet as a marketing entity.
Let Cotto and Williams sort themselves out, and the winner gets a shot at Floyd. Probably Cotto, because I don't think Paul has much of a shot against Miguel.
