For those of you who arent from an urban setting

in any sport, video game, contest or really activitiy in general in the black community its usually shunned upon to lose to the "white boy". For those of you having trouble wrapping their minds around this, a film that jumps out in my mind immediatly that would help explain the way this works is "white man cant jump" it doesnt really have anything to do with being racist or anything like that but just the fact that in the "hood" losing to the white boy is usually embarassing. Those of you who do understand and read this please back this up so everyone understands becaue its far from racist. If you dont understand please comment this threads not for aruging but understanding.

Imagine if Ricky Hatton said I ain't losin' to a black boy..

This shit ain't double standards no more.. it ain't the 1950's.. btw.. i'm not white.. the 'N' word is used constantly in the hood.. it doesn't make it anymore acceptable..

I believe in double standards and not because I'm black but only because its true. Its just how life is until our society puts the foot down and decides to stop them. I'm glad people were offended because I guess because its something that should not be said but to call bhop a racist is pushing it a lil bit. and i dont really like bhop at all any more

I just think it shows that people who think like that have an inferiority complex to the white man/slave master that's been ingrained in their heads.

Honestly, Bhop is really trying to sell this fight and using the race card to doop the everyday doofus white boxing average guy to buy into this fight.

You got 2 old champs who are both on their way out, gotta make it interesting to an otherwise boring fight.

Hopkins, I think, went into his animalistic survival mode when he saw a rival and garbage flew out of his mouth. Everybody has at times said something they don't mean. Who in here hasn't said, "I love you" to a dog just to fullfill your animalistic desire.

Hopkins at that encounter should have just mugged Calzaghe, took his money and in the mode of Clintwood and McQueen, leave without saying a word. Well, maybe a "Fuck you!"

i took it as a american derogrity term as the original poster used in his analogy

white men cant jump

in england`s inner city`s where i played sports for 25 years be they individual or team sports most particpants were black and white was the minority it was not a factor as there was never an inferioty complex issue whether it be the boys and men themselves or in the media.

one of the teams i played football for was called carrabean where i was easliy spotted in the team photo.

whereas it seems there is some kind of given in american society that black sportsmen are better than white hence hopkins comments.

did not offend me , because i know if you are good enough you will win if not you will lose, colour is not a factor.

i dont give a shit about p/c correctness anyway .

listen to alan minter speak.

the man stuggles to put a sentance together.

genuine bottom of the class student.

1980 i think the hagler fight was and it was a time of riots around the country and football hollganism and the aftermath was just a sympton of the time period.

People expect Bhop to act all "cheerio" is ridiculous. Here's the thing and this is wear you learn in life to bite your tongue. If he does lose, He's gonna hear it more from the white guys who have a black superiority in sports/complex.

While I respect what you're saying and if it were almost any other fighter I would agree but the fact is Hopkins is a cartoon ( not that I don't think he is a good , verging on great fighter he is ! ) but everything he says or does is so over the top as to be comedic. I don't really think that in his heart Hopkins would be more upset to lose a white fighter than he would a black one he would hate to lose period !

If he truely means it or not doesnt matter really, he makes no intention to make it known that he is kidding, he makes rascist comments and makes no excuse for it.

Did Kramer, the actual comic, get a pass for being "over the top"?

No, he had to go see the good "reverend"

His comment was a tad below the belt for 2 reasons.
1) If the boot was on the other foot and Calzaghe had said "i aint loosing to a black man" there would have been complete uproar
2) He is gonna lose to a white man if the fight happens

Minter said that about a black man before he fought Hagler and there was a full blown riot that night and Hagler was lucky to get out unharmed, you don't seem to realise the kind of problems that can be caused by comments like this.
ive been around were people clown the random white dude that nobody knows... like on the ball court if theres 9 guys who know each other (black guys usually) and a random white guy comes and he starts bustin ass probably one of the first things to come out of someones mouth would be ... white boy got game or that white boy bustin your ass... just how it is haha i feel like watching white man cant jump

B-Hop is not only a filthy racist, but also a GBP Puppet, a shoeshine boy for Oscar de la Hoya. Remember that. oh trust me im fully aware of him being a shoeshine boy for oscar... me and a couple of my friends were messing around saying how bhop was oscar slave and oscar was the slave master or something like that... its bad i know... but to me bhops pathetic.. but hes definetly not a racist just from a really tough back round

Considering the deep seated history involved its fare to say that most posters here wont understand its social nor cultural implications.Racism isnt something that can just be explained away blithly no matter how PC guys want to get on here.

To be fair Calzaghe has mentioned in interviews about how he would be popular in America because he is white:deal ..they're both idiots!Good for him.At the end of the day its just talk.Im pretty sure neither guy meant it with dark intent.Either way if they did who gives a shit.Does anyone here think Mike meant what he said to that reporter when his "father and mother" were both White? At the end of the day guys here are trying to be too self righteous and too PC. There isnt a comparison between black and white racism as much as people think there should be.Its not ironically that black and white nor is it that cut and dried.

Again brother I repect your stance , prinicpals are a good thing but you have to accept due to historical reasons ( of which we are all aware ) Black guys are allowed a certain amount of ragging its just the way world is. If I thought Hopkins really meant it I would offended too but I really really really don't think he did :good

Shaquille O'Neal said a similar thing about being dunked on by a white guy and how people would clown a black b-ball player for doing so.

Anyway, Hopkins's comment was rather classeless, but why are people surprised? Hopkins will do or say some crazy things to promote fights or wage psychological warfare.

Walk with me. I'm a white American guy (been called black Irish!! got my bases covered) and it really does not bother me personally, but I think it's really stupid that Hops said that unless it was meant as a joke. Dennis Rodman's book, of all places, had a good section about this issue. But it really is time to move on from these comments, especially because of all the responses of " If Ricky Hatton had said........." Again personally, because of all the horrible history, if Hatton/Calz had said this I would be really pissed because as a white guy I do not want anyone lumping me in with these guys.

I think the key here, is that we all need to be a bit more tolerant and not take every last word that media figures say so seriously. I happen to be white, and frankly I can care less if someone of another description says that I can't jump, run, fight whatever. Sports figures have a reputation for being smack talkers, and likely always will. On a reverse note, I think that the Don Imus thing was blown out of proportion, but I also can't tell others how they should feel about it either.

racism is a dead moot issue, it does not mean anything anymore, it was a racist comment but bhop is not a racist, you can say a racist comment and not be a hate monger, its retarded to paint someone into a corner for a comment, especially in a heated moment, people made a big deal about tommy morrison's comment about black people, just like bhop's comment it was a racist thing to say, but does he actually hate every black person? c'mon thats stupid, tyson has said many racist things but he prolly has more white friends than black, purple whatever, bottom line....who cares?

Yeah, point taken. Listen, I'm a white boy, and I am not personally offended by the comment. I don't think it was necessary, but that's life. If it was the other way round it would be terrible because of how black people were treated by the white man so many hundreds of years ago, but some are still tarring us all with the same brush. What happened in the past has nothing to do with us, and the white boys with a decent amount of brain cells are very strongly anti-racist. To be honest, I think it's funny. BHOP should have called Joe a Honky. LOL.

When I was in Germany I had friends apologizing for Hitler's behaviour. I was like "WTF? Why do you feel the need to apologize for a shithead like that?". It's nothing to do with the current generation, just as white on black racism is nothing to do with the current white generation, but there will always be someone somewhere who will take a comment like Bernard's up the wrong hole. As I said, that's life. It's a shame that racism is ever brought into the picture at all. Regardless of colour or race, the better sportsman will always beat the lesser sportsman. Let the silly comment be water under the bridge.

Let me ask you a hypothetical question.

If a white guy in college says "I would never get a worse grade in an exam than some black guy", is he saying something racist?
