View Full Version : A quick note on Bute-Bika and comparing the level Bute is at with Calzaghe

A good win for Bute a focused performance, he couldn't really have done much better.

Calzaghe, worst performance in years, crying before the fight, clowned around, won very comfortably.

One thing Bute showed against Bika is that he is not good enough to win a shut-out points victory against fighters like Bika, he loses rounds to these fighters, even at his best.

Calzaghe, as soon as he stopped 'show-boating' and boxing unintelligently showed he could shut-out Bika, using the jab 10/10 times.

Bute is nowhere near the level of Calzaghe. Calzaghe is capable of shuting-out the Bika's of this world with relative ease, Bute cannot (he has to settle for comfortable points decisons at his best).

It should also be noted at no point did it look like Bika could beat Calzaghe but against Bute for a brief period, it looked like he had a chance to some fans.

It is a testament to Joe that even in a unfocused and unmotivated state, he is leagues ahead of exciting fighters like Bute.

you guys went to the other place?:scaredas:

"Bute is not ready for Calzaghe and Kessler. He needs more time to improve his defence and become less hesitant. I guess that can be summed up by saying he needs more experience. So which three fights would you plan for Bute if you were his manager, assuming that he would beat Berrio?":

Calzaghe has been ducking Bute for ages. Bute KO before the 1st bell stops ringing. Bute is the second coming of Ali (in the 168lb division). He is faster than Calzaghe (mentally, footwork & handspeed), is younger and hungrier, hits harder and Bika said he's the same level as him now. So by the time they fight, Calzaghe will have slipped and Bute will have improved.

100% WRONG POST !!!!!

Bute admit he was totally NOT there for the first 3 rounds !
Bute could have KNOCK Bika out, Calzague never hurt Bika !

Trust me, Bute will be much better vs Berrio..., and than will ave huge confident and defeat Calzague !

So what are you saying?

Bute could have knocked Bika out but chose not to?
Bute lacks focus early in fights?
Bika says Bute and Calzaghe are at the same level but Bute hurt him, Calzaghe never - does this imply that Bute is like Calzaghe except with more power?

I would say Bute is pretty much definitely world class. I would also say Calzaghe is better. I don't know how much exactly...In any case, about this, Bute would agree with me - he knows his place in the top three/four at SMW better than I ever could!;)

the Bika fight was NOT one of Bute's best fights...he did lack focus early on; he wasn't himself - notice that I'm not comparing him with Calzaghe or anyone else...!

Exactly..., Bute could have win 120-108.

I thought it wasn't until Bute's body shots (the ones we keep hearing about) had worn Bika down, that he began to dominate.

I think basically Lucian's lack of experience (Only 100 professional rounds prior Bika) was the reason he struggled against Bika in the early rounds. Bika went in there, and put a great dose of pressure which would give plenty of top fighters in suppermiddle/middleweight issues. I think we all do agree that Bika is an awkward and very tough opponent à la Miranda and he will surely have a hard time finding a higher ranked opponent to fight him in the futur. Even though Lucian's lack of experience resulted in him being hesitant in the opening rounds, imo he showed great character with the ability to adapt to his opponent, and in that respect, Lucian gets a big :good. Those bodyshots were wicked but like i said, Bika is one tough s.o.b. for taking them. I believe Lucian was a bit surprised by Bika's aggresiveness and felt uncomfortable under that pressure. He was never exposed to that ''type'' of hungry fighter. He was cautious as he was asked to be by his handlers given Bika's reputation. Added to that is the fact that Bute is a slow starter. True is also the fact that his right hand is way too low at this level of competition but It did give us the opportunity to see the quality of his chin. This fight will definately give Bute more experience and will give him something to work on for futur fights. Bika stated after the fight that Lucian is on the same level as Calzaghe but not yet on kesslers level. I guess we will never really know cause Bute will never get his chance against J.C because Kessler will send him into retirement. Lucian Bute is not at his prime, nor have I ever said he was but he will be the 1 to beat in the futur along with the gentleman standing next to him in my avatar.

Yes, Bute bodyshot paid dividends for sure. But what i saw that alowed him to take control is how he ajusted is defence somewhere in the forth round. Once he had done that he could find is distance and start to dominate. The incridebly flagrant headbutt Bika was penalized for is the best sign of how desperate he had gotten and how out of reach Bute was on the inside at that point.

What round did Bika resort to headbutting Calzaghe in? He was certainly attempting it by the second.

Well he did it every round really, he just stopped being able to against Bute to, so did he against Beyer its what he does. But when he stoped being to use it as he throws is punch while marching in or on the inside he threw a beatifull once with full neck spin and extention that even an untrained eye could see for the last seat in the arena.

I didn't know what to think when I read that Bute had headbutted Bika once or twice himself...a strange mixture of disappointment for lowering himself to Bika's level and pride because he didn't let Bika intimidate him and gave back, by all accounts, better than he received... ...who would have thought! Against a master headbanger like Bika, too!:p

problem is...when you have a reputation as a butter, opponents will exploit it to the max like Bute did and you will lose points even if it was the other guy that mostly banged YOU!:patsch

China_hand_Joe - how do you see the levels now given that Calzaghe has declined and Bute has stagnated a bit?
