Alot of people only remember McGirt getting beat by both Meldrick Taylor and Pernell Whitaker(twice). But people don't remember that he was a very good fighter. When he first started out many people compared him to Aaron Pryor because of his speed and punching power. Of course he wasn't the next Aaron Pryor but he's got some good wins at Junior Welterweight/Welterweight. He knocked out Howard Davis in the first round(after he went the distance with Camacho and Rosario), avenged his loss and knocked out Frankie ******, and upset Simon Brown. He also hit Pernell Whitaker in there first fight more than anybody in his prime. Buddy McGirt the trainer overrated, Buddy McGirt the fighter underrated.

HELL YES...if he were fighting now, he would be top ten p4p easily. The man was a very, very complete fighter.

We'll see McGirt's mettle thoroughly tested when he has to advise Brewster on how to stop Wlad from beating the hell out of him from a distance, and Brewster cant' seem to penetrate the wall that Wlad's jackhammer jab has built.

But lets not even mention what he'll tell lamon when the Klit torpedo right starts to rear its ugly head by about the third round.

McGirt is an underrated fighter, but an overrated trainer, IMO.

Buddy had a nasty right hand...it was short, sharp, and accurate...it hit Sweet Pea more than any other right hand...

Mc Girt was a little bit of Willie Pep and Jersey Joe Walcott in a little tnt package.

He was definitely a good fighter, top 20 jr welterweight.I thought he caught Davis Jr. at the downslide of his career, but he probably would've beaten Howard in his heyday anyway.
