free standing heavybag opinions please

hey everyone, this is actually my first post too so I guess i should give some background info,

i'm 21, 5 ft 7 and I just recently starting boxing about a month ago at my university gym. Its not your typical boxing gym, its more of a gym used to teach classes in mixed martial arts/boxing/kick boxing/etc.. its pretty small but its the closest thing to a boxing gym in my area i think. Anyways the problem is, the gym is going to be closed during winter break from Dec 20th - January 20th....thats a long time of no boxing.

I was considering buying a heavybag, but I dont have the space and the freedom to drill holes and what not and since I live in a rented house I decided to settle on one of those free standing heavybags, (the ones you fill up with water at the base or sand). I was hoping you guys could give me an opinion on what you think the best free standing heavybag there is on the market right now.

I was contemplating between the Everlast one ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

i am trying to spend $150 max
so if anyone has tried these, your input would be much appreciated

Look around. The is an amazing amount of second hand equipment going cheap.

dont get the everlast one its horibbbbblee!!!! my friend has one and i tryed it out for 1 round... i hit it with a right and the thing shakes like CRAZYYY....look for some great bags at [Only registered and activated users can see links]

anyone in south florida, i got a wave master century selling for 35 bucks in real good condition.

I'll be honest with you, I felt like it caused me to "push" my punches (because of the way it springs back at ya) and even with 200 pounds sand it moves like a "skip" on the ground... It was good for low/high leg kicks though.

I hear the full standup bage are a bit better and don't spring back and forth like the century wave master.

If you go to craigs list.com you may find a cheap on by you for sale, otherwise, if I were you I would try to get a everlast boxing stand for your aprtment/house and a heavy bag....you'd be much better off. On craigs list you can usually find someone getting rid of theirs (entire thing with bag) for 100 bucks.

yeah, I had it and it broke after like 2 months and it shakes way too much. Unfortunately, standing bag is not even close to a hanging one. On the bright side, you can still develop solid technique, but the keyword is "standing". with the hanging one, your moving, creating angles, etc. after using my hanging and messing around with the standing, I could feel the difference.

as for good ones, get wavemaster - the long ones you can kick or punch. they are stable and won't break because they don't have that shitty lever-path system where you hook it in and raise/lower it.

i had a feeling these free standing heavybags were going to suck, just hoped there would have been some postive reviews. thanks for the feedback though, you guys saved me from wasting money.

anyways, since i'll be stuck without any hitting practice, I also saw this shadow boxing apparatus using resistance tubing on the everlast site as well, anyone try this? seems like it would be a useful tool while shadow boxing to i guess improve hand speed?
