The numbers are in. The December 8th HBO-PPV clash between Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton generated 850,000 pay-per-view buys and $47 million in PPV revenue. The breakdown was 520,000 from cable and 330,000 from satellite. It was a tremendous year for Floyd, who's bout with Oscar De La Hoya in May generated an all time record 2.4 million buys and $134 million in revenue. All told, 2007 was the highest performing year in HBO Pay-Per-View history with 4.8 million buys and more than $255 million in revenue across eight boxing events. The previous high for HBO PPV in boxing was in 1999 with four million buys and $200 million in revenue. In 2006, HBO PPV registered 3.7 million buys and $177 million in revenue.
This fight never done as many buys as De La Hoya v Mosley II, De La Hoya v Vargas, or De La Hoya v Hopkins.
I always knew this fight would be lucky to get 1 million or over.

the US audience was obviously blown away by Hatton's barnstormers against Urango and Collazo.

I don't think your grasping things. I never once said they were laughable numbers, but it never quite lived up to the hype of the British jounralists and Steve Bunce's estimations in how big the fight was, with Bunce even mentioning the fight in the same sentence as the "Rumble in the Jungle". But we all know Bunce's middle name should be "overexaggeration".
Some people said this fight would do 1.5 millons PPV buys. I know a big fight well when two fighters get matched, and I said it would be "lucky" to do 1 million PPV buys, and that was being realistic, unlike some other observers.

You stupid, or just too damn lazy to read the post above yours. Maybe only the De La Hoya v Trinidad fight beating it, wrong. About 6 De La Hoya fights beat it.
Just to correct you.

The Yanks over on the General Forum seem to think those numbers are very respectable. As someone else has pointed out Oscar and the Heavyweights skew PPV numbers, take them out and you'll see where this fight fits in the scheme of things.

Im not taking it serious. However your posts sometimes look like they have been typed up by a 15 year old. I did read ur post correctly. I stated that the PPV numbers never lived up to the hype.
