I'm talking about the prime (that's an oxymoron) slippery Toney at 218 lbs... who worn down Holyfield and frustrated him with absolutely brilliant defensive movement....To me, Toney is a great fighter...but inconsistent...Remember, there is nothing indicative for Toney being kayoed...
I need to be convinced...How could it happen?

Who could knock the best heavyweight version of James Toney out?

Mike Tyson
George Foreman
Sonny Liston
Lennox Lewis
Wladimir Klitschko
Vitali Klitschko

There's 6...I'm missing some though, so please add onto this.

Mike Tyson- Too ferocious. He would just get him.

Wladimir Klitschko- Too tall, too powerful. No ko here, I'm thinking tko.

Joe Louis- Toney's too slick for most, but footwork is what bothered Joe. Toney is too heavy on his feat, and too willing to in-fight for Louis.

Riddick Bowe- Too much leather for a little man to take on the inside, another tko.

Chris Byrd- He is just the wrong style for James. Wait, I'm sorry, he'd just win. I'm drinking, you said ko.

Well, I've only come up with 2 ko's. I can't think of 6.

interesting question.

I don't know six heavyweights who could knock out James Toney for sure.

I might have to go with some of the smaller heavyweight champions of the past, with the idea that some of the bigger more powerful ones might not be able to apply the constant pressure that I would rather have than pure power.

I would take volume over pure punch power.

Liston,
Marciano
Walcott.
Louis
Frazier

and most recently Tyson

I really forgot about Liston. Yes, he could've.

I'd pick Toney over Marciano and Frazier, especially Marciano. I'm sorry, they wouldn't be able to hit him often. This is going to make some angry. Oh well, I pick those two over Toney all time; just not head to head.

I think Toney is going to get slam vs Marciano the same way Archie Moore did.
Marciano will grind Toney down and out some were in the 6th or 7th round.

Tyson, either Klitschko, Frazier, Louis, and Lewis could do it.

IMO Ali would have a chance of stopping HW Toney, who is/was about as mobile as a piece of lard stuck to the side of a barn. Cassius Clay would terrorize him with angles and blitzkrieg.

I agree with your names except for the last line. I think Ali would beat the shit out of Toney but not stop him. Toney is very tough and durable, he'll probably lose a landslide decision against Ali like he did against Jones. He is not susceptible to cuts either, come to think of it, was he ever cut?

6? There are more like 60 who could.

Too much is being made of Toney's demolition of Evander "Real Shell" Holyfield. Anyone who believes that Holyfield would not have stopped Toney in his prime needs to check the films.

Toney got ravenous when he looked at the HW field. Jones beat Ruiz, who is a not much better than any clutch and grab spoiler, and Toney sought to outdo that -so he took on a few more who were either past threats, or basic fighters -which was virtually the whole field.
