Anyone seen this bout?

I nearly died laughing when I saw McLarnin knock Singer down in the third, and thinking he had finished him off, he did a forward flip in celebration. By the time he landed the flip Al was in his face and Jimmy went straight back into animal mode and continued to pound him. Must have been the shortest lived celebration of all time.

Jimmy Mclarnin is one of the most underrated fighters of all time. I think he should be ranked alot higher than he is , i might be biased because i'm also from the vancouver area but come one. He has wins over pancho villa, barney ross, tony canzoneri, benny leonard, lou ambers and samy mandell.

His resume crushes that of hagler, whitaker, pep, and other fights that get ranked above him. 4 ATGs and 2 other hall of famers. Pep at most beat 2 ATGs.

His level of competition was supreme, the only issue with his ranking is that he lost to lots of good fighters too. At the very least we can say that he was competitive with some of the best fighters of all time and got the best of them on some occasions.

Yeah but still, he beat 5 fighters that are better than anyone Jimmy Wilde has beaten, 5!

Not to mention that hes not even a natural welterweight, he began his career at 122!

No one fights barney ross, tony canzoneri, pancho villa, benny leonard and remain undefeated, thats not gonna happen.

Of course no one is going to have an unblemished record after fighting the likes of Ross, Canzoneri, Ambers, Mandell, Petrolle, Kaplan, Corbett etc.

But more worrying are his losses to Bud Taylor, Doc Snell, Johnny Farr, Ray Miller and Lou Brouillard.

There's also the issue that there's really no one weight where you'd say he was genuinely the best. I think a lot of fighters are capable of beating him at most weights he contested at. He'd always be in with a chance of winning his fair share against the greats though.

Where do you think he should be ranked p4p?

About the Leoanrd fight, unless you were under a different impression (you probably aren't) that was an Ali-Holmes beatdown. Leonard was a mere shadow of the shell of a past prime Leonard (meaning, really, really, really far past it). It's not one of Jimmy's meaningful wins.

armstrong and saddler also lost to lesser fighters.

With wins over ross, canzoneri and pancho villa. He should be in the top 25.

The differences of course being that Armstrong never lost during his prime (Ambers decision was corrupt) and Saddler only lost twice in the division he dominated (featherweight) for years.

With wins over ross, canzoneri and pancho villa. He should be in the top 25.

I think the 35-55 range is more acceptable considering his losses to lower calibre guys and the way he looks on film compared to some others.

Jimmy McLarnin has some huge wins how many fighter can say there last two fights were against Canzoneri and Ambers and that they won both.
