didn't Eastman just fight Duddy, and where did you hear this from?

I was just thinking the same thing.
Eastman just lost to Duddy - so why have Lee fight a Duddy victim?
If Manny thinks he's ready for Pavlik and can beat any Middleweight out there - why not really set up his competition - instead of fighting an old Eastman.

come on, just cause manny says he is ready for pavlik......it dont mean that he is!!!!
manny (like most boxing people) knows how to talk up a guy and get him some ink.
this would be a great fight that would get lee into fringe contention......top 15 maybe.
and if he somehow could pull off a stoppage........that would really be a statement for the devision.

I think Eastman is perfect foe for Lee at this point tough but not to tough, lets not forget Lee has been fighting club only fighters at this point he should fight a med level guy like Eastman before steps up to contenders. Eastman has a good punch, good boxing skills and a very good chin and just give top contender Duddy a tough fight if Lee can beat Eastman or stop him it really show were Lee is at.
After Eastman Lee can step up to fight top guys like
# 1 David Lopez
# 2 Marco Rubio
# 3 Raymond Joval
# 4 Raul Marquez
# 5 Enrigue Omelas
Lopez and Rubio are real good opponents for Lee because there both tall like Pavlik
I think after beating these guys Lee would be ready for a title shot:good

yea ive heard the same thing, this would be a great fight for lee at the minute and i think he'd get past him in more impressive fashion than duddy,we have to remember lee's only a prospect at this point and this fight would work wonders for making him much more than that, eastmans still a top 25 fighter and if Lee could ko him it would send shivers through the MW division.
Your right Lee is only a prospect, but according to Steward lee ready now for Pavlik.

yea and mannys trying to just make noise about his top prospect who dominated cintron, taylor and hung with wlad in sparring.2008 is a huge year for lee,by next december we'll know if hes a world class or just very good, which imo would still win him a belt.

Eastman might not be a journeyman, but he is dangerously close to being just an opponent. He's 37 and he's lost 5 of his past 7 fights. He's had a good career, but if Duddy beat him, I think Lee would knock him out.

If it happens, its easy work for Lee. he's the real deal. Emmanuel always liked him better than Taylor.:smoke :smoke

dont think eastman would be an 'easy' fight for anyone but most contenders/top prospects should be beating him convincingly. i felt duddy was very strong in the early rounds and had a solid lead and he let off in the later rounds.he'd be a great test for lee and definatly the toughest of his short career.

Duddy is no Lee. True, it's its his toughest test thus far but he would leap that hurdle easily. Eastman is a fading fighter.:rofl:rofl

Lee should beat Eastman convincingly - he is much faster and has more power than Duddy who beat Eastman better than the final decision suggests. We will finally get to see Lee's chin be tested which is the one question mark hanging over him

Yeah, it was close, but it was Duddy. Duddy wen life and death with Yory Boy Campas. Losing a close fight to Duddy shows how far Eastman has fallen in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Howard. He's had a good career and has been a good contender for a long time. But if Lee has trouble with the current version of Eastman, it says some bad things about Lee.

Vincent - didn't you also say that Lee was supposed to fight Giovanni Lorenzo on the Pavlik/Taylor undercard ?:huh

Yes I did, Manny was saying a few weeks ago that Arum was trying make Lee vs Lorenzo for the Pavlik vs Taylor undercard. I guess Giovanni did want risk his number 2 ranking with fight with Lee so that fight is not coming off:-( Lee vs Eastman is not a sure thing either as while says Manny wants the fight who knows if Eastman will go for it.:think
Vincent, I'm a Lee fan, but here in Ireland, Steward is making some crazy statements about his prodigy. Steward actually claimed that Lee was going to be even better than, now wait for this, Lee was going to be even better than Sugar RAY ROBINSON. Talk about superhype.

are you being serious ardy,i havent heard that one yet, gota laugh and kind of cringe at that, slightly embarassing!theres a huge open market in ireland with no boxer really filling the void at the minute entirely and maybe he is hyping lee for a huge fight in croker or something like that!
I kid you not greengloves. I want Lee to succeed. But Manny shouldn't be filling the boys head with shite. Lee needs time to develope, give him another year of learning fights.
Bob Arum expects John Duddy to challenge Pavlik in June. Although I live in Belfast I will do my best to attend the fight.

aye im the same man,i heard rumours of duddy fighting the kings hall on paddys, and then of course a title fight, only thing is im a student and dont work so i aint got a shit loada money to be taking to the US lol
aye definatly, manny seems to be acting a bit of a rare one these days, wish the MW division was more competitive there would be so many more better fights!
i No Duddy wont be in the Kings Hall on March 15th, he will be in Madison Garden Theatre instead.
Your a Derry lad right! I would beg ,borrow or steal to get to this Duddy world title fight. he has a real chance against glass chin Pavlik.

i know, i know, i would be highly ashamed of myself if i didnt get to his world title fight.it would be as big as when charlie nash beat ken buchanan for the derry people,we aint got much going for us these days so it coms as a warm welcome, especially since it all came out of the blue.the derry bandwagons really frying my head at the minute though, like at the last fight people from derry who call themselves boxing fans were like so who is this eastman guy,or after the furlan fight everyone was like 'duddy for heavyweight champ' was laughing my ass off.boxing is definatly only on the outskirts of the sporting radar in derry and has needed something like this for a long time.
yea,i definatly agree duddy does have a chance against pavik, but in all fairness the further he progresses up the rankings he looks more and more like a one dimensional fighter.

I thought Steward said that Lee has the ability to be the best since SRR not better than him.Still thats stretching it a bit:patsch
John fights the way he fights.Yes he has to work on more head movement, and he needs to stop standing in range when he,s not punching. But he's never going to be a fancy Dan, and he's going to have to win his fights the hard way. John has a great chin, with a fair amount of power and has loads of heart. He,s fantastic for Irish boxing.

i couldnt agree with you more,he's a tough strong headed charismatic boxer who can transcend the sport in ireland and america, hes been brought along perfectly by eddie and i hope to god that he goes to the MSG and beats pavlik by ko.we just have to accept him for what he is and im very happy to be doing exactly that.
what do you think of matthew macklins prospects?how far do you think he can go?

I like Ornelas as an opponent for Lee. He just won the NABF title by forcing Bronco McKart to retire on his stool after the 5th round, and the NABF title may not be as important as it was when guys like Joe Frazier and Ray Lenoard held it, but it is still a traditional part of the path to a world title shot. I would very much like to see Andy step up a bit, but not to much to soon.

The duddy fight was veeery close...
The fight was 96-94 on the sole judges card, the referee!
I don't think too many other people saw it that close. Duddy was always ahead and on top of it.
