Jones' style will not be good for Trinidad. He's more lose stylewise, and much more defensively aware. Jones may well be pushing 40, but he's not lost any power, which is the last thing a fighter loses. He'll have enough left to knock out Trinidad inside 6 rounds. If Jones is tentative and cautious he may well give Trinidad the confidence he needs to gain momentum, but I'm sure Jones will test his chin early.
Trinidad hasn't faced a puncher like Jones. I thought Jones' power at light-heavyweight was underrated. He stopped Hill with a bodyshot, and dropped many others at that weight.

Why would I have to 'come back' with anything? I wasn't disagreeing with you. I just thought it was vaguely amusing that you took the thread seriously enough to post a reply that was anything other than a joke (like the rest of the replies to this thread).
Jones's rapping is absolutely terrible, quoting some of it would be along the lines of a joke.
Though in all seriousness, to reply to your post.. you say power i the last thing to go.. This is true. However, Jones doesn't seem all that willing to throw with power recently. This is understandable after his two bad knockout losses of course. But when he fought Tarver for the third time, and Ajamu he did his best NOT to engage them. Even when he fought Hanshaw, despite scoring a knock down, he wasn't throwing bombs the way he used to. He may feel he can with Tito since Tito will not be prepared to takek Jones's power, but what if he fights the same kind of tentatie fight he's been fighting since his knockout losses? Will just be a boring fight.
Roy's plan beat Tito...beat...Bernard....and get revenge on Antonio once and for all
Tito is just a warm up for the ultimate goal.
Which is Tarver.
It still bothers him that someone of the "Garbage Man's" class could knock him off his high horse and now that Antonio is avoiding the better fighters but still needs a payday and Roy's true fans want to see him beat Tarver still til this day it could very well happen....just something to think about
Glen Johnson knocked Roy out to but everyone knows that the Roy Jones in that ring that night just wasn't quite right and i don't see Roy retiring without a clear victory over Tarver

People say the punch is the last thing a fighter loses, which is true in a way, but, Roy Jones has lost a hell of a lot of his speed and reflexes, which WILL affect his punching power.
Roy hasn't scored a KO in years, this is his chance.

RJJ has lost a lot of his incredible reflexes which allowed him to get out of the way of a lot of punches during his prime but he's still got the blazing hand speed. So while he can't get out of the way of a lot of punches, he can still touch you when he throws.

Name a time when Tito looked intimidating???? He's always had the body of a little school boy. Have you ever shook his hand though, have you ever seen his tighs....his hands are like bricks and he has large muscular thighs like most hispanics. I find it funny that some fans this use your logic when adding in determining factors for a fighters power or ideal weight class. While having a well conditioned body is important for a fighter it is not weighed as the highest determining factor when theorizing the outcome of a fight. :deal

I consider myself the bigest Trinidad fan in the world. In all honesty ass soon as the fight was anounced I was very upset. Roy Jones is a much bigger man and he is gifted enough to really hurt Tito even at his age. I pray that he can land that left hook early flush cause Jones will not be able to take a properly placed shot, and I will go to see the fight live.
I will be there in hopes of a miracle man, but this fight is all wrong for Tito. Let's hope making 170 will be hard on Jones body, and that Tito has one more big fight left in him. Good luck Tito, take a minute to feel him out then jump on him pai.

If anyone will be knocking anyone out it will be Jones. I think a combination of Tito's inactivity and new weight will be a deciding factor in this fight. I don't think Tito's power will carry up the weight divisions and I think Jones will have enough left to stop Trinidad in about eight or nine rounds.

Roy Jones has forgotten more than Felix Trinidad has ever learnt.
Roy Jones has forgotten more than Felix Trinidad has ever learnt.
Felix Trinidad is primitive, yes he has decent power and a good offence. But Roy Jones is a fighter that has consistently fought bigger and stronger guys than Felix Trinidad. Roy Jones Junior technically can easily outbox Felix Trinidad, if Ronald Winky Wright could do it, if Bernard Hopkins could do it, then Roy Jones Junior can do it.
Psychically he is a better athlete, technically he makes Felix Trinidad look primitive.
Roy Jones is the Carl Lewis, the Michael Jordan of boxing.
And still he poses skills and speed, and throws combinations that no boxer in the world can execute.
This fight will be over in 2-3 rounds, brutal K.O win for Roy Jones.

As much as i'd love to see this happen, have you seen his last few fights? I'm a huge RJJ fan and after seeing him in his last 5 or so fights, it really bothers me b/c he's a shell of what he was in his prime. I mean even now he's good but come on - he never got hurt this much or even had the slightest puff over his eyes.

Felix Trinidad is primitive compared to Roy Jones.
Every great athlete has one more flash of greatness, like Carl lewis in 1996 Olympics.
Felix Trinidad is only a stepping stone, Roy Jones too fast, too skillfull.

Exactly. People are DELUSIONAL if they think that Trinidad is gonna come back after being basically a semi-retired fighter for most of this decade, and KO a man who is naturally larger, and while faded, still has something left.
It is FAR more likely that Tito himself will be KOd than Jones. Don't forget that, unlike Jones, he was the one who was known THROUGHOUT his career, for having shaky whiskers.

Little Toto will be at best embarassed by Roy, and at worst sent all the way back to Kansas. Roy Jones hits harder, has a longer reach, much more speed, far less rust, is fresher (which isn't saying much), has the better reflexes, and the chin differential isn't much in my opinion. Then again, in a deviation from standard boxing rules Toto has Jack Prescott in the ring with him, apparently.
Hopefully, Tito's underachieving mediocre ass will stay on the farm where it belongs. I also hope that Roy will have mercy, and not dress up his dog as Dorothy. Wait, is Oscar promoting this one?

The funny thing is that since RJJ and Tarver last fought, i think Tarver has lost a lot more than RJJ. I actually think RJJ is getting some of his confidence back and that's what he was lacking.

Yea i dont think trinidad will BRUTALLY KO roy. IMO trinidad is so much of a stationary fighter(meaning he generates his power being planted on his back foot). All roy has to do is get on the bike and just be roy jones jr. This imo should be a easy win for roy, unless he gets lazy and lays on the rops and lets tito bomb away. But tito does have a chance, he has the power to ko roy though, but roy has the talent to embarras tito. So 50/50. Should be a good fight.

The odds are in Roy's favor a better boxer no counting he's been more active and this is his natural weight a lousy option from Tito.
bachatu
01-02-2008, 11:21 PM
Even putting skills aside and talent, which greatly favors Roy Jones Jr, just look at circumstances:
1) Roy Jones has fought at higher weight then Tito most of his career, he's fought at heavyweight!...he is the bigger & stronger guy in this fight
2) Tito has been in and out of retirement for the past decade. Roy has been far more active in professional fights
3) Tito will be fighting at his highest weight ever, along to go with his inactivity
All these things are to Roys advantage
Now add on skillset produced by each guy.... Roy is the more dynamic, faster stronger guy.
Ok-to put things into perspective how bad Tito is going to look , think about how bad winky looked when he fought benard at his highest weight.... How bad he performed, and this is coming from a guy (Winky) was still active in pro boxing and not even close to retiring. How much worse do you think Winky would have looked if he fought Bernard at that weight and was coming off retirement.... my point exactly.

That's the fight in a nutshell.

In my opinion Jones needs to perhaps stop Trinidad if he has any pretensions about resurrecting his career in the top echelons of the sport. Trinidad has been inactive for a sustained period and his last fight was one sided against him. Up at this catchweight of 170 I don’t see Trinidad’s power carrying. He needs to plant his feet to get his leverage and if Jones keeps on his toes then he could frustrate and bamboozle Trinidad. I think he needs to wear Trinidad down and stop him late. More realistically is that Jones stays on his toes for the whole fight and boxes to a safe UD.

Roy would need to blast Tito out after a beating for me to regain any faith that Roy could be anywhere near what he used to be.

Damn, boy, you are starting to talk some sense for once in your Godforsaken life. I see RJJ's lack of reflexes, and the fact that his last two opponents were fodder, his Glass Jaw and his age all coming into play here, and add to that him having to make 170. He should be weak and depleted come fightnight.
Your heart is going to stop, semen colored shit is gonna squirt out of your butt and your gonna spill your apple-tini all over Kaygbs new alligator skin shoes in the 2nd round when Tito is dropped like my highschool girlfriend 1/2 way through spring semester. But keep calm, he'll rise from the canvas...wear Jones down and eventually stop gumby legs around the 9th round :deal Mark my motherfucking words damnit :yep

Trinidad looked like a scared girl who didnt know what to do, with Winky. Why would he do any better against a boxing master like Roy Jones?? OH, are you saying he will catch him with lucky punch, since that is his only chance?? Or do you think he will just walk around for 12 rounds and do nothing, like he did with winky?? Please explain.
I'm saying Jones is going to have success early. But just like against those last two Joe Schmoes did to him, Tito will have him lifeless on the ropes the entire fight. Jones is going to do his 'generic version' of the rope-a-dope, and like Glen Johnson didn't, Tito won't stop punching him. He's going to take a beating from the 7th or 8th round on :good

If Roy has any reflexes left, he will KO Tito. If not, it will be interesting and Tito will KO Jones, unless he's as shot as Roy. In that case it may be a great seniors circuit fight.

You mean highschool boyfriend, dont you? I dont see RJJ standing still long enough to land anything decent. Watch him in round 4, he'll be in strictly defense mode.
Strictly defense mode? Like you when Kaygb comes home late from 'poker night' with the boys and needs to release some "frustration"?

Only way Tito KO's Jones is if :
1.He packs a much of a punch as Tarver
2.Jones fights with his hands down like Joppy
3.Jones fights like Mayorga !
Since neither of them are the likely scenerio I really feel bad for Tito !!

cmon bro stop being delusional our boy Tito was at his physical absolute peak when he fought David Reid. You will NEVER ever EVER see Trinidad with that mix of speed and power ever again. At 160lbs vs Winky he looked in bad shape, at 170 I can only imagine what he is going to look like. Tito needs a Miracle.

Are you fucking joking? We'll just say, CORRECTLY, that Roy just beat a guy fighting 16 lbs over his best weight, who hasn't fought in a billion years, and who was PWNED as bad as can be imagined in his last fight and who clearly was only taking the fight for money and the desparate hope of having a "punchers chance"

Roy Jones will punch Tito so hard that the momentum from the punch will go all the way back in time and KO Tito in the 10th round of De La Hoya/Trinidad. Tito will retire after the De La Hoya fight causing the course of boxing history to change. B-Hop still wins the middleweight tournament by knocking out De La Hoya, but Trinidad and Roy Jones never fight. The fight never happened so none of this was ever discussed. None of this will have happened. And no one will remember a single word from this thread.
That is how bad Trinidad will get knocked out.
