This is the type of fight that matches two complete opposites, a power puncher and a boxer. Usually the boxer wins, but an interesting matchup, and I always favor the punchers, but the importance of boxing and moving always seems to rise to the top.

Id pick Valero on this one.

Guzman by a fucking longshot. Guzman is better in every way except power punching. Technically Guzman makes Valero look like an amateur.

i cannot say who is the better fighter of the two as of now but in a head-to-head match, i think guzman can box his way to a comfortable decision.
imo, valero will find it hard to land a flush shot on the more agile and elusive guzman. and if he lands one, imo guzman can take that shot because he is big for jr. lightweight. just look at how well he took the body blows of soto who has a very decent power.

Guzman easy. Guzman also weighs in at 148 on fightnight, and Valero's power would be quite uneffective if they ever fought.
148 when the division is 130. I'm sure he'll never fight at 130 again.

Really? Doesn't the boxer generally beat the puncher?

Guzman is much better in every aspect besides power. Valero is one of the most crude champions I've ever seen. I'm not even sold on his power.

Guzman has speed, skill, and talent that the crude Valero can only dream of. That's like asking who is better between Mayorga and Mayweather
It's more like asking 'who's better - Margarito or Thomas Hearns'.
Remember, Mayorga actually had some ability at his very best.

All this ignorance disgusts me.
Mayorga makes Valero look like a technician but he didn't have a problem beating the technically sound Forrest twice, did he?
Guzman having more skills doesn't mean that he'll beat Valero and it sure doesn't mean that he's the better fighter.

Mayorga actually had speed, an iron jaw, good timing despite bad technique and good handspeed when he fought Forrest.
Valero is 3 steps down from a prime Mayorga.

considering valero has'nt proved himself against anyone of note, guzman is leagues above the hype that is valero. this is'nt even debatable.

commendable, but against the elite his skills are'nt up to par. guzman is elite so this is'nt even worth discussing. i'm not even a fan of guzman.

Valero is being underrated. Skills dont always pay the bills...just look at george foreman in his prime. Valero has the intangibles to win fights. If this guy can beat Morales in sparring and MAB believes he can beat Pacman, having knockout all his opponents most in the 1st and being a champion...he has to be something special.
Guzman rests too much and looses concentration. He also does get hit and when Valero hits him, hes gonna slow down alot.

Stick to the question buddy. Who's better? Better as in all around fighting skills.

I thought you were joking in your first post. Valero is the biggest hypejob in boxing. I can't believe he was featured on Yahoo's front page after he knocked out another C- level fighter in the early rounds this month. He's nothing special.. watch the Mosquera fight. I think it might be on youtube.
Guzman would not only be able to beat Valero using his countering boxer-puncher style, he would be able to beat him in an all out toe to toe brawl. Valero is shit.
Valero is better.
Hi there black! :hi:

Valero is a classic case of a top fighter not having had the chance yet to prove himself. Before guzman beat Barrios who would have thought we would be comparing him with the likes of JMM, MAB & Pac? Sure Valero looks crude but his tenacity and punching power makes up for it.
Guzman will win most of the rounds but I see Val landing some clean shots on Guzman and as Guzman slows down towards the end, Valero will land more often which may lead to a TKO.
I picked Guzman to beat Soto and the fight went pretty much exactly as I said it would. Soto is too much a calculated solid boxer to maul Guzman down, he also doesnt posses the raw power of Valero. Valero's wild style would benefit him against Guzzy, no point in trying to box with Guzman. Only one in the FW-LW division that can outbox Guzman is JMM at this point.
