View Full Version : Which fighter is your favorite to watch and why?

I thought I'd bring up a positive thread for ones.

My favorite fighter to watch is

Roberto Duran

Why? Almost all his matches, and all of his high-profile wins, are mental battles even moreso than physical ones. Duran fights until you are weary, and until he is weary, and he trusts he can dig deeper than you and fight harder when you're both sick of it. Anyone he fights is tested to their limits.

Besides that, as Angelo Dundee once said 'he does a lot of cute things in there.' Duran had the head-feints, the feet-feints, showing them one glove and surprising them with the other, moving his head to absorb a possible blow rather than futily trying to duck it entirely, efficient use of the jab (the way it's meant to be used -- not to score points, but to measure and set up another punch) and a tendency to never do the same thing twice, constantly varying his manner of attacking.

He never ducked anyone, which I liked. He fouled a lot, but was rarely caught -- and I have to admit, I liked that too, if only for the drama. It's a war in there, and he'll do anything to win. What tops it off is his genourosity to the poor -- it doesn't change the fights he's had, but it makes him much more sympathetic in my eyes, and I've found myself rooting even harder for him since I've seen those.

What's yours?

Sweet Pea.

No matter how hard anyone ever tried, they could never be as accomplished as Whitaker. I can't help but to watch and just appreciate everything he was able to do in the ring. And as sacrilegious as this may sound, I thought he was even better than Willie Pep.

also in his fight with Hagler ...he could outbox Hagler but he was looking for a 1 round ko........

Hagler changed up his own gameplan, throwing caution to the wind and attacking Hearns rather than his usual patient boxer-puncher style, and Hearns had little choice but to trade with him. As Hearns would say later, he had to defend himself and get some respect instead of being walked right through.

He did at times try to box in the middle of the ring midway through round 1, but Hagler cornered him and then Hearns went back to trading to get away from the ropes. But the time he did, his legs did the dance late in the round.

My favorite fighter to watch ever is Mike Tyson.

Not only was he an exciting KO artist with power and charisma, but his punches and combos were beautiful to watch. Especially the right uppercut.

All-time favorite - Mike Tyson.

Right now it's Wladimir Klitschko simply because you never know what would happen when he's fighting, whether he wins or loses it's ALWAYS entertaining.

All Time: Sanchez- great counterpuncher, great chin, nice power and lots of punches. Beautiful boxer.

Current: Mosley, Dawson, Cotto and Pavlik because they are my favorite fighters. All of them are great boxers overall and tend to be in entertaining fights.

Chad is from CT so I've been on his bandwagon since 2001.

For previous fighters it was holfyield. You could always count on a good fight if Holyfield was involved.

Currently, it may be Juan Diaz. All action. Too bad he doesn't have a punch, but, his fights may actually be more exciting because of it.

Pacman does it for me - picks tough fights usually, and does it with blazing speeds.
MAB - picks toughest fights - and utilizes heart, skill and brains in the same package.
Oscar. - picks the fights you wanna see.
RJJ - pure brilliance at his best.
Calzaghe - very talented and does it in a way that is unique.
Kessler - Because his style is textbook, and ofc he was born a stonethrow from me.
Tyson - Because he was a beast at his best.
Aaron Pryor - simply because his fighting style made each fight epic.
Hagler - because he had it all - complete package.
Hearns - Because he guarenteed exciting fights - fought with brilliance - not much clinching going on.
