My best ten mile time was a little over 70 minutes, but running 5 miles at a 6 minute pace is really something to be proud of, man, congratulations on that.

wow 10 miles, i'd never even think of running that much, 5 miles is long enough for me, i started gettin cramps near the end.

mach how often do you run 10 miles?

i'm thinking of running 5 miles atleast once a week now.

Eh, you'd be surprised man, I ran those 10 at a minute slower pace each mile, I'm sure you could do it if you'd slow it down a little. I think you're a little smaller-built guy than me, too, so you could probably be a hell of a distance-runner if you want, but for boxing, there's a point of diminishing returns, where the mileage you put in doesn't do much more to help you to get that ring-specific endurance.

But running those five miles at that quick of a pace where you're getting spent right at the end (tempo runs) will help the conditioning for the ring loads. Great job, really, now I'm gonna have to go run as soon as I get off of work. Haha, thanks for giving me a little motivation.

When I was consistently running (and I'm finally getting back into it) I would run tempo runs twice a week (run for a certain amount of time, trying to get in as much distance as possible) this would usually be twenty minutes or so, and I would go for at least three miles. Twice a week I would do sprints/intervals either doing certain distances (100m, 400m, 800m, etc.) or intervals for time (run as fast as possible for two minutes, jog for one, to mimic a round) and then twice a week run for distance, with mileage totalling at least 6-7, usually 9-10 though.

And believe me when I say, when I was running like that, I could go for days without getting tired. The most important thing, though, is to run with intensity. Don't let it get easy. Even on the distance days, I would try to beat my last distance, and do it quicker. Same with my tempo runs, same with my sprints. Never settle, and the results will always keep coming.

How long have you been doing conditioning work? I know you're a fan of Ross.

i have been training for boxing for a few years now but only last year i really started looking into strength and conditioning, i hardly ever do distance running unless its with the gym but today a few of my neighbours who train for football (soccer) decided to go running and invited me along so i said what the hell....

believe it or not there was a 14 year old kid who finished like a minute before me!

That's a pretty natural weight for you? I'm about 148 - 154 while I'm training, but can get to at least 170 if I slack off for a while. I wanna say you're a little taller than me, too, aren't you?

Thats a good time man.. my pb? No idea for 5mi.. but for 5k (a little over 3mi) it was a good time, but about where it should have been for the effort.. we'll say it was closer to 16mins then 17.

Some tips for you eager runners out there who want to purely improve running times -
*Run hill sprints once a week.. really, really good for leg strength and imrpoves running efficiency
*Run intervals once a week.. improves speed endurance so in theory we can run faster for longer
*Mentally push your pace.. dont settle into a rhythm even though its really comfortable, actually get a mindset to push the pace
*Dont run more then 4 times a week
*Dont run time-trials more then once a week
*Dont do long slow runs.. as a man much wiser then me put it "Long, slow runs produce long, slow runners"
*Keep your feet low to the ground, almost skimming the surface, and swing your arms NOT your shoulders.

my PB for 5 miles which is 8km is a little bit under 26 mins when i was running a bit competitively

I can still pump out a 27:30 time for this distance nowadays when i only run for my boxing

anything sub 32 mins for this distance is fairly respectable

Thats what mayweather says he does
That's damn quick. From what I've seen of mayweather, I think he could probably cruise at 5:30/mile at least.

I can nudge out 5 miles in under 30 minutes. However, I run around 8 mile 5 times a week and do a 10 miler on sundays.

I'll be doing my first half and full marathon this year so I'll have to up my distance a bit.
