I had it a draw at the time, but I can see the argument for both guys winning, close fight.

As it happens, I also had it 115-113 Joe

Reid said: "I can't argue with the decision. Joe was the better boxer on the night and I knew I could not catch him for speed."

i dunno reid clearly did not dominate the rounds while joe did.

maybe ried looked to of won more rounds but joe did fight back a bit.

it's abit like hagler leonard (but of course ona totally different scale) you could say that leonard yes did win maybe more rounds but he didnt win the fight. you have to beat the champion and robin didnt do the job properly

Funny thing is, in Joe's autobiography he talks about how anti-Calzaghe the Newcastle crowd was...but in his DVD, he gets interviewed before the (farcical) Pudwell fight and says `great to be back in Newcastle!`.

Calzaghe really doesn't like Reid...as another poster on here once pointed out, Joe despises losing so much, he can't forget that judge who gave the fight to Reid...

Bodysnatcher
01-01-2008, 05:33 PM
Also worth pointing out that on Calzaghe's `best of` DVD, the Reid fight is completely absent while the Pudwell fight is shown in full.

Can't quite work that one out.

I thought Reid won, infact I think I had it 7-4. The only thing is Reid didn't dominate the rounds clearly, there's at least 6 rounds that could go either way, but if I were the judge that night Reid would've got the nod.

Robin Reid is the ONLY man to have given Calzaghe such a close fight. Not even Kessler kept it as competetive as Reid did, Robin was always an underrated fighter even in his prime.

Was the Reid fight the one where Joe broke his hand early on?

There's been so many of those I lose track of them...

Reid was a unlucky guy, what with this one which could have gone his way,and the sven ottke one in germany when the ref seemed to even stop him throwing a punch,he was a good fighter, sad to see him get wrecked by froch of whom i kind of like till he opens his big mouth.B y the way unless froch learns to not pull away with his damn hands down, hes gonna get knocked out, reid came very close in that fight before losing, and hes not a young man any more, his trainers must be tearing there hair out when he keeps doing that, hes asking for huge trouble.

I pity your sorry ass. My post is fucking spot on. Everything Calzaghe does, his avatar groupies multiply times 10. If YOU say it was a close fight edging towards Calzaghe, Id say Reid won 7 rounds in reality. I am looking for the fight now to see what ACTUALLY happend. Same jokers everytime. Pity these nuts as well.

This thread shows how good Joe is. His only disputed win (not by many) was in a fight where he broke his hand after 2 or 3?? rounds. He is not only a great boxer, but also one of the greatest fighter. WInning against a dangerous opponen like Reid with one arm, amazing!

I've heard "weak as piss" but not "weak as water". In fact, water is damn strong. Unless you consider a huge tsunami to be weak...

Regardless, Joe Calzaghe won against Reid. It doesn't take a genius to work this out if you watch the fight. Joe did get caught a lot, but he wasn't exactly phased by the right hand that kept catching him. Great chin.

Calzaghe cruised the first 4, then Reid had a point deducted.

Reid would have need almost all of the remaining rounds to win. These scores 2 or 3 points in Reid favour are insanity.

It was close but you cannot argue against a Calzaghe win.

Calzaghe is known to be quite inconsistant and put on one of his best performances against Kessler. I haven't seen the Reid fight but its quite likely that the Calzaghe that fought Kessler was better on that night.

Joe won and while being injured, I believe a broken hand and bad elbow.

Reid was awkward but not putting in the necessary work. I think I had Calzaghe about 7-4-1 to 8-4.

Ghoulie
01-11-2008, 07:57 AM
a draw would have been fairer - personally thought Reid just shaded it

What about the Reid / Ottke farce of a fight. Robin should have been allowed to smakc the ref one and then be allowed to fight without his interference.

Pity Calzaghe didn't fight Ottke - reckon he would have beaten him.

Reid had his moments in this fight but I can't remember thinking he'd done enough to win. Calzaghe won by a close margin.

Beatboxer

A close but clear win to Calzaghe is the consensus.

Reid admitted he lost. Why would others question it?

Agenda against Joe? I think so.

Soon the old bastard lovers will flee this site in a mass exodus not dissimilar to the Kesslerites following the events of November 3rd.

Its similar to the Lewis-Mercer fight in that it was close, closer than most of the all time greats fighters usually are(that is calzaghe and lewis) but any objective fan can see that it was a close but clear victory!

JC won....it would have been a bad decision otherwise as it would have been if Mercer had got the nod against Lewis
