This fight was very close to been made now the ingle camp have gone a bit quiet.... Anyone else think it makes perfect sense. Gomez wins he's back in contention, McAllister pulls it off and he becomes more than a name in the ratings. Thought anyone?

Mike needs 2 or 3 tune ups first imo, get him back into tip top shape, then its a realistic match up.

True ideally that would be the way to go but do you think Gomez would struggle a little to get 'up' for those matches bearing in mind his age and the fact his last fight was for the British title?

Gomez should retire he is finished judging by the last fight.

Gomez should retire he is finished judging by the last fight. Yes he came closer to beating the reigning British champion then Ricky Burns, Fehintola or Cocoran... he should definately retire based on that :nut

Good fight for McAlister, if he wins could get a shot at Thaxton, Murray or even Khan!

it would be a good fight for him in terms of stepping up. But bad in terms of he would loose to all four easily.

I think you guys are over estimating how shot Gomez is!

He was fucked after 3 rounds and didn't exactly hurt Johanssen.

He should retire before ge gets hurt. Just my opinion.

Fuck McCallister, was up in Aberdeen for the holidays and theres news items in the local paper on more than one occasion praising him for bringing a world belt back to the 'deen, and him himself saying how proud he is to be a world champ. Chump has fooled all the ignorant aberdonians the WBU & his WBF Intercontinental means something. Im all for supporting your local boys, but he'll never get respect from me.

Gomez to hopefully smash him.

ps. in the article it says they are working on getting a top ten mexican over for him to fight, aye right Lee.

Gomez said on Channel M that he was having one more fight (which he hopes is against Carl Johannesson) and then he is going to retire.

This fight appears to have been made now - 22nd March in Aberdeen.

Oliver Fennell (BBN) is calling for Gomez to retire - am sure he will have something to say about that!

Interesting that Gomez is moving up to lightweight - is this a permanent move or dependent on how he fares against McAllister?

Good opportunity for him.

He has indeed.

To be fair though his loss to Peter McDonagh appears to be his only loss at lightweight and he has achieved quite a few wins against fighters at that weight and above.

All you need to be to beat Gomez nowadays is a negative boxer, & thats what McAllister is.
If he can stay away from Gomez for 3 rounds, he will box his way to a stoppage win in probably around the 7 round mark.

Gomez is good for 3 rounds max, then hes gassed out & easy meat. As usual though, if you stand trading with him hes got a chance to stop you early, as Johannesson nearly found out. I honestly thought Gomez was close to knocking Carl out that night. Lee wont brawl though. Thats why he will win.

aah dont be so harsh Boydyboy! Theres lods of WBU champs who call themselves proper champions, I remember a certain Anthony Farnell crying his eys out in the ring when he won it, saying "its always been my dream to be a world champion!"

Boxers are like that, Michael Brodie even called himself a world champ for winning the WBF title, thats the craziness of boxing nowadays!

& much as I hate the WBU strap, it does have its uses. Being a WBU champ didnt exactly do Ricky Hatton any harm, he was selling out arenas defending that bloody thing! McAllisters just doing what boxers have to do nowadays, drum up publicity for themselves, & having that godawful WBU title helps put bums on seats, sadly enough.

However, on a personal level the WBU title mkes me so angry I could crush a grape!
