Of all the titles a fighter can possess which one in your opinion gives a fighter more credibility as being the true champion at his weight class??..

Until proven otherwise, currently the Ring, though right now that's in question. Lineal is the other big one, but BOTH can be held hostage. That is their downfall. Of the one's listed, the Ring is most credible to me.

The WBA is the oldest and first of the ABC titles, so you could consider it for historical value.

Let's not forget the Unified title, but that is DAMN hard to do these days.

Lineal > Ring > WBA, WBO, IBF, WBA

And many times (90% of times) the Lineal is also the Ring champ.

You will have one champion every 7 years and some divisions without any Champion at all.

Why the WBC?

thats how i feel at the moment...i think they have been doing pretty good compared to the rest of the sanctioning bodies....except for the chaos that they caused in the HW division...but besides that i think they've done pretty good...not that they dont have their flaws

Any answer other than the ring is simply ignorant.

It isn't that the ring rankings are perfect, they are far from it. However, they are CLEARLY CLEARLY the best at deciding who the real champ is in any particular weightclass.

People on this site should be educated enough to know that is true without me having to cite the VERY NUMEROUS examples of ridiculous ABC champions.

It doesn't matter.

In some cases its the ring in other cases its the IBF or WBC. It's all on the fighter.

Like when Lennox Lewis was stripped or vacated belts. The one he was defending was the true title.

It depends on the division really, whether its the WBC, WBU or the IBYTUBCF

The IBF belt was THE belt at 140 when Hatton fought Kostya.

Just like Joe Calzaghe's WBO was THE belt at 168 before he fought Kessler.

And Tarver's IBO belt was THE belt at 175 before he fought Hopkins.

Whichever belt the true champion holds is the best really, and since that is often the RING belt, (with exceptions) probably the RING

So what you are saying really is that it's the fighter that makes the belt.

This is why I feel belts are not necessary in most big fights.

The people know which fights are for recognition as the best in the weight class.

The Ring usually recognizes these fights as such, which is why they are the best!

Yeah pretty much, but its always nice to have a few belts on the line in the big fights.

If I was a fighter though, I would want the WBC. No real reason, other than its supposedly more prestigious and looks pretty cool.

Having some recognizable belt on the line doesn't hurt, it is especially helpful to the average sports fan that is tuning in to "the big fight".

I used to sonsider the Ring to be the most objective, thus most credible one. However, after it was purchased by a promoter - GBP that notion went right down the toilet.

A belt only holds as much meaning as we give it. As someone said, when Lennox unified the titles then was stripped, whatever belt he had became 'the belt', whether it was the WBC, The Ring, or just from Calvin Klein - it was LENNOX that had to be beat because he was the real champion.

Just like how Kelly Pavlik is the lineal champ even though he doesn't have all the belts that Bernard Hopkins had when he gave them up to Jermain Taylor.

I'd have to say the Ring. I consider the alphabets pretty much the same.

The Ring magazine belt used to have more credibility until Oscar bought it.

No single title is really more credible, although the Ring belt seems better. You really have to base this on a boxer by boxer basis.
