Thats right, wanting Jermain Taylor to be victorious against Kelly Pavlik in 2008 is wanting boxing to die and diminish. What boxing needs is an exciting likeable knockout artist - Kelly Pavlik.
Sure, Taylor had an exciting fight with Pavlik, but Pavlik made it exciting, he was pushing the pace making the chances, he was doing the work.
Before the Pavlik fight what was his last exciting fight Taylor's been in huh?
Taylor is boring, he fights negatively, he's dull, he doesn't finish fights, he's pedestrain. He is not a good face for boxing, his last fights before Kelly were snoozefests, insomnia-curing, he is a tedious fighter to watch and produces awful boring fights. The casual public tunes out.
Pavlik, is fun, exciting and a killer, he throws a 100 punches a round and will depacitate his opponent if need be. When he KO'd Taylor, the casual world took notice, something was exciting again!
Kelly Pavlik is what all true boxing fans should want in 2008, someone with excitement and power, not Decision Jermain. Not someone boring. Not someone who will turn people off.
If Taylor becomes champ we will have to put up with more boring decisions and more controversial decisions. NOT what boxing needs at this time, having Taylor win again will put the MW division back into a malaise of ineptitude.
The casual public will once again tune off and take no interest if the snooze machine comes back into power.
All true fans of the sport should support Pavlik, no matter what colour or backround you are, for the good of the sport.
Wanting Jermain Taylor to win is wanting boxing to further diminish and die. :nod The good of boxing and the good of the MW divison depends on Kelly Pavlik winning.
Be a patriot to the sport, support Kelly!:good

Couldn't agree more. What I don't get is why HBO doesn't realize this. They were still trying to get their hype job another gift decision before Pavlik prevented another bogus HBO decision with his fists.
He will again. :nod

I agree but if Pavlik loses to snoozefest Taylor, then is Pavlik all that great anyway?

I'm not saying that Jermain isn't a good boxer, he's just tedious and boring.
Even if Pavlik does get beat he is still ten times as exciting as Taylor and will bring far more limelight to boxing with his exciting style than the safety first Taylor who goes for decisions.

The championship isn't even on the line. Besides, Taylor always has been willing to slug with those who will slug back. It takes two. ...
No one is going to get Hopkins into an exciting fight, and Spinks ran for 12 rounds. Taylor was wild and ineffective largely against Ouma, but Kassim didn't help. And had Taylor finished Pavlik (ifs and buts, I know. ...), he'd have restored his reputation as a rising star in the sport.
All that said, Pavlik will stop Taylor earlier in the rematch. Hiring Ozell as his trainer was the final nail. A huge, amateurish mistake.

This fight is not for the undisputed middleweight title because it's held at a catch-weight of 166 pounds - Pavlik will remain champion regardless of the outcome...
Though for the true linage and legacy of the middleweight division I want Pavlik to win...

I don't recall Taylor going for decisions.....He tried to take out Ouma, Spinks ran, he slugged it out with Wright often, and again with Pavlik.

I agree, I liked both fighters coming into there fight, so I really didnt care who won. I now believe Pavlik is the Middleweight we need, is alot more exciting to watch fight than Taylor, plus he got a shit load of power.
It's not as if boxing will lose Pavlik if Taylor wins; if JT does win we might even get a thrillogy and that is a good thing for boxing. Besides, JT is moving to 168 and Pavlik will too (soon enough). So the MW division is gonna be wide open within the next 2 years - trust me.

I don't know. We've found a new alias for Pavlik. The "Depacitator".

The best man is going to win regardless of anything, and if jt pulls the win he deserves all the credit.

Good points.
You're right, it does take two to make a slug fest. And JT has proven that anytime he's pushed into a corner, he throws back. Anytime his opponent stands there and throws, he's willing to exchange. That's why the Pavlik/Taylor fight was exciting because you had two guys who are willing to exchange.

I want Pavlik to win.
However, Taylor is a good fighter and he made it competitive the last time. He could win this time.

I'm fine with either guy winning. Although I have enjoyed Pavlik's fights more the past couple years then Taylor's.
Taylor can make sure he finishes the job when he hurts Pavlik again, thats what he CAN do !
