Why are people saying Hatton needs a tune up before facing Paulie Malignaggi? I dont see why he would need that, I think it would be a waste of time. Thats not to say I don't think Paulie will be a tough challenger before the Malignaggi fans jump on my back, I just think he should go straight into a proper fight & not waste his & the fans time with a bowl over.

What do others think? As with all my threads can the trolls stay off please? There are a hundred other threads you can have your petty squabbles in.

Not many people are saying that.

I just read the say thing - and I think it said "MAY take a tune-up" - but I highly doubt it.

I say take the Malignaggi fight and make quick work of him. He wouldn't be able to keep Ricky off of him.

Malignaggi is the perfect tune up fight anyway

Very democratic of you, but we all saw Malignaggi's true level, and still the most impressive thing he has ever done is not get KO'd by Cotto

i think the fight makes sense...it is really marketable and its a fight between arguably the #1 light welterweight Hatton and a definite top 5 light welterweight in Malignaggi

Yup I'm sick of every thread degenerating into childish name calling, it's boring. Plus I didnt want this to be about who can beat who just whether people think he should take a so called "tune up".:good

Who is saying Hatton needs a tuneup for Malignaggi?

Paulie is a good comeback opponent.

But what if Paulie is forced to face Lovemore N'dou? Who should he fight then?

I think Paulie is made for Hatton. Decent name, coming off of a win...Hatton I feel would walk through his punches but who knows? Paulie is young and hungry.

Hatton is far to strong for Paulie.

I don't think hatton will fight paulie just yet. Because hatton is looking into fighting in april or may and with paulie coming of an hard fought victory i don't see him wanting to fight hatton yet.

Paulie may be young and hungry but unfortunately for him he doesnt have the pop in his punches to keep Hatton off him, I would expect Hatton to stop him between rounds 6-8, if Paulie runs then maybe a little later. Paulie is ok, but hes made for Hatton.

I think Hatton should push hard for a shot at Cotto. If he can get a shot at Cotto first and beat him then all of a sudden a Mayweather VS Hatton rematch could be on the cards, and that all adds up to mega $$$ for Hatton

Hatton hasn't got time for tune ups

With his style and love of beer he needs to make the big fights happen. We keep getting told by Graham he is at his physical peak, which I don't quite see, he seems to have lost the stamina he once had

He has 5 fights left tops

:good I mean I had a few on saturday after celebrating oldham's win against the everton but it fails to live up to hattons drinking habits. He did not lose his stanima against floyd, it was the number of punches and the frequency of them landing what did hatton.

I can't see Hatton fighting 5 more times, not unless he can start fighting every few months.

He's in decline now, he's starting to gas in fights which never used to happen.

If he does fight 5 more times against good opposition, he'll retire with about 3 losses.

I really like Ricky, but the binge he went on recently was the most pathetic thing I've seen in a while. People like Mayweather deserve to beat him, because Floyd is a proper athlete who treats his body how it should be treated.

I'd like to see Ricky fight a couple more times and then retire.

Anything wrong with Hatton is because he refuses to eat properly. His drinking is ridiculous.

I know what u are saying he could end up like jake lemotta. But if hatton likes a drink and it lets him relax. I mean you can't all be the perfect athlete like mayweather can u. I am not saying that what hatton is doing is right but if u look at some sports stars to like a drink and be good, u can look at George best one of the most talented footballers ever and babe ruth.

Totally agree. What I hate more is the way the tabloids make him a hero because of it, documenting his drinking habits in some diary like badge of honour.

The signs were there against Collazo, and possibly even prior to that

His stamina was still questionable against Mayweather. That wasn't the Ricky Hatton that I saw at his peak, not giving Tszyu a minutes rest. Mayweather is a much better fighter, but Hatton couldn't keep up the workrate that he set in the early rounds, where he was doing ok

What type of binging has Hatton been on since losing to Mayweather? How many Guiness a week? Seriously, I'd like to know.

Yeah so why are they not slating Hatton for it?

Yeah he's been allowed to stay while he applies for a work permit so should be a formality. The whole thing was a farce. They're quite happy for us to keep paying for old Hook Hand Abu Hamsa to be imprisoned & give benefits to his family but not let someone who has contributed to our society & lived here most of his life stay.

Anyway....

A tune-up fight is not for physical advancement. It is for psychological recovery.

Now it depends on how Hatton's mindset was affected by his recent loss. If he is emotionally affected and distressed because of the loss he might need one. If his level of confidence is as high as ever then it's not needed.

Very true. Abu hamza should be extradited to america and spend a few years in guantanemo see how long his preaching last there twat! The hatton question I would not know maybe because the tabloids have double standards.

I don't see Ricky as being someone that would let one loss against the p4p #1 haunt him

He looked fine after the fight, joking around

His physical condition is more of a concern...

PM could be the tune up lol.

Although I disagree with many on the forum saying he doens't have many fights in him. I'm pretty sure he does, most of the time people dont have m any more fights in them if they just keep getting beat up. Ricky hasn't really been beat up too bad over the years and his future opponents don't figure to beat him up too bad either.

See u could go either way because in some ways hatton is an enigma in boxing, because you have this overweight person in off training and then when he comes into the gym he his gymrat and u can say u never have concerns about hatton making 140, like castillo and coralless at 135.

He went on a four day drinking binge.

Something like 50 pints, 15 vodka and red bulls, straight vodkas etc....

It's becoming more and more of a problem for him recently and he'll start losing fights because of it.
