Dempsey destroyed the acknowledged No1 challenger of the day in 23 seconds and people wonder why he had an aura surrounding him.
Can you imagine the buzz on the general forum if sombody did that to Wlad Klitschko?

Damn that lazy Brewster, I knew he underperformed.
Any buzz surrounding Lamon would probably be from his portable milkshake blender.

A good analogy would be if Alexander Povetkin knocks Wlad out in 23 seconds this February.
You would know a new era had dawned.

Fulton isn't in Wlad's league though. Its more like Lennox-Golota. Yet Lennox doesn't get many props for that 1 despite Golota being most peoples number 1 at the time of the fight. Golota was better than Fulton too

Lewis Golotta is another fight where the imidiate relevance will be lost over time because Golotta's star fell like Fulton's.
While Fulton did not live up to the hype he stopped Sam Langford while Harry Wills was still going back and forth with him and went on to beat othercontenders while the relics of the black dynamite crew batled it out.
Many saw Fulton as virtualy an uncrowned champion.

Good comparison. Fulton got knocked out by a nobody only one year before that. Wlad has some average losses, but not that bad and not that recent.

I take it you mean the DQ 1 loss to Texas Tate.
Fulton knocked Tate clean out of the ring into the crowd but the blow that did it was ruled a foul so Tate won the bout but had to be carried home.
There were some suggestions that the reff was on the take.

Well, that's sort of like being knocked out.

Yeah, I was under the impression that Fulton came into that fight off the back of a steady run of good results, since and including a stoppage win over Sam Langford.

Not exactly.
Knocked out, knocked about, took a clout, rules to flout, it's all the same thing.

How exactly are you knocked out if you belt the other guy clean out of the ring and get DQd for it?
This is not a significant blemish on Fultons record. It is sort of like Golotta's career best effort.

If you need to ask, you'll never know.

Not exactly.
He was sarcastic. Anyway, i referred to his knockout loss to 0-1 Jack London.
Thanks for the article though.

The record books do show a 9th round KO loss to a Jack London, just before Fulton stops Sam Langford.
I dont know whether Jack London was a 0-1 guy though. Still, he's definitely an unknown.
That's a curious entry, seeing as Fulton stops Langford in his next fight. Fulton did have several fights without loss (apart from that fishy DQ thing) from Langford through to Dempsey though.
I wonder if a report of the Fulton-London exists.

How much later did he have to be carried home? Was he injured or still unconscious or what?
