View Full Version : I've noticed there has been a wave of NEW boxing fans recently...

You can tell their new fans because they know nothing of boxing pre-2007.

A lot of thes new fans also do not appreciate the older fighters.

Did DLH have anything to do with this with 24/7?

Do you mean posters? Or people in general?

I've noticed that as well, this place used to be a lot better. Now you have a bunch of fools who don't have a true appreciation for the sport and its history. They often refer to fighters as cowards or runners and think any fighters who happens to be defensive are boring. Learn to respect all styles of this great sport.

Exactly, most people that criticize have never been in a fight, let alone a ring. You can usually tell by the post if its some young kid. I'm all for new fans of the sport, and most won't know about the sports history, but its the constant arguments between posters that gets old.

The reality shows do a lot to bring in the new fans. Hopefully, if they get on this site enough, they'll learn a lot about the sport, including it's colorful history. Let's face it though, there are plenty of old fans who talk crap about boxers being cowards etc., especially those "remember the good old days" guys. IMO every era, new and old, has had greats that would be great regardless of era.

You can always tell the newbs from the pros by looking at their post numbers in comparison to their vcash and working out a ratio.

I can appreciate how an influx of new people can be annoying, especially if the majority appear to have very limited knowledge but not all of us will be ignorant of boxings history - I'm new here and have only been a boxing fan for about 10 years but I take as much interest in boxers from the past as I do with those boxing now. I try my best to see as many old and current fights as possible and regularly read about the history of the sport.

Cheers:good, I'll try to check out as many out as I can. A couple of them are on Youtube, gonna watch Chavez - Randall (link) ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) edit: this is the rematch, doesn't look like all of the first fight is on there), I've seen a bit of Chavez but nothing of Frankie yet. That's the best thing about boxing history, I could probably watch a couple of brilliant fights every week for the rest of my life and I still wouldn't have seen everything worth seeing.

So i guess because i just joined and i dont have many posts im a new wave boxing fan right? even though i would prefer to watch the boxers of old actually utilize the "sweet science" with quick feet and rythem. And because i would rather watch people like Ali dance around the ring with foot movement and trash talk his opponents with a poem instead of acting like a whinny little kid (mayweather) that makes me a new fan who only started liking boxing because i saw that whinny little kid on cribs right?

so of course i MUST be a new wave boxing fan :deal

I have only been posting for a few months now but i used to go on this site every day for a very long time and read all the articles and forums. I have been a boxing fan since i was a little kid. My cousins were all boxers and some still are. I love the sport and im glad i found this page.
This wave of new guys is ok with me except that there is alot of them that you can tell just dont know what the hell they are talking about and need to get facts before they post.

Why exactly, playing devils advocate, is the Jury out?

Because you havent seen enough of him to make a judgement?

because of a natural knee jerk reaction to something you know little about and is different?

Or because it suits your mentality and fits nicely into your thinking?

To be fair, hes just giving Bhop his respect. His resume demands respect after all.
As for his comments about Calzaghe? Well Calzaghe feels he needs to fight in America to prove himself an elite level fighter, so theres nothing much wrong with the guys post.
