Cotto takes it! Mayorga dont like it to the body so he wont be able to take cottos left hook to the liver!

Miguel Cotto by UD or late KO. Cotto would probably easily outbox him for 9 straight rounds and then stop him in the 10th or 11th.
Cotto should win but I wouldn't be surprised if Mayorga had Cotto hurt once or twice.

This would be a Fucking good fight, Cotto would probaly have to get off the floor to stop him late or win a UD..:yep

This will be a great matchup, I'll pick Cotto but I can't imagine how the promotions would go with Mayorga's bitching all day and night.

Wouldn't be surprised if Mayo dropped him, but as others said, his weakness to the body and Cotto's precise work would be his downfall.
If Cotto can counter punch Mosely when hurt, he can also counter punch the best of Mayorga and win a decision at the very least.
It's really an amazing feat for Mayorga to have defeated such an excellent fighter like Forrest, who at his best would have starched Cotto in 6-7.

I disagree, Forrest is an excellent fighter and still is. I expect him to clean out 154 if he gets the chance.
The Mayorga situation was an interesting occurance though, as Forrest was of the A+ quality.

Disagree. Forrest was a great boxer, who struggles to cope with pressure. He has a great jab and cross, and fights very well from boxing range. But from the inside his defence is very open, his punches to wide, and his arms to long to be effective. If anything, I think Cotto's pressure puts him at a stylistic advantage to Forrest. Forrest would be much better in a match up against a pure boxer such as Mayweather.

The Mayorga situation was an interesting occurance though, as Forrest was of the A+ quality. He lost twice to Mayorga. Just to prove the KO in the first fight was no fluke, he DECISIONED him in the rematch. I think that shows that Forrest was not the most versatile fighter. He also got beat at his own game by Quartey, and was given a gift.

Good post. Even in the rematch Forrest looked very tentative and uncomfortable fighting on the inside, and dealing with pressure.

Mayorga would get KO'd regardless. Mayorga is tailor made for Cotto, He is too wild and sloppy for a systematic puncher like Cotto.

A prime Mayorga had the chin to take Forrest's best bombs though, I could very well see Cotto getting tagged hard, stunned badly and then not attacking as much and getting picked apart and stopped at range.

Very true. Mayorga is weak to the body. But Mayorga is so wild. I def could see Cotto being dropped. I think Cotto would outwar Mayorga in the end though with the body work as you said.

This is just silly, Cotto can't hurt Ricardo, Ricardo would crush him early walking through shots and landing bombs, Cotto wouldn't make it to round 4

You are comparing the effective and very technical presure of Cotto though to the wild, no defense off balance pressure of Mayorga. Cotto wouldn't need to take shots like Mayorga did to get inside, he would use his timing and keep his guard high on the way in. I agree it would be a dangerous fight for the chin of Cotto, but I really think that Forrest is at his best when backing fighters up and not vice versa.
One Of The Better Match Ups I Heard Both Tuff But I Think Cotto Better Boxing Skills Give Him The Edge Over Mayorga.
Mayorga Surcomes To The Body Punishment 10th Or So.

has the equalizer and a great chin

You pick Gomez, Hatton, Berto and Clottey over Cotto by KO for fucks sakes. your opinion doesn't matter.
Yup, this guy is a joke. The funny thing is, he doesn't know it.
Cotto would give Mayorga an unreal beatdown, for as long as Ricardo was able to stay in there with him. I can't believe some of you think this would be a "great" matchup.
I think the likely outcome is that Cotto would win every second of every round, on his way to a stoppage victory around the 7th.

Mayorga has zero chance in this fight. First of all, Mayorga cannot make 147. He has already failed to make weighs above this weight, so he cannot fight at 147 anymore.
Secondly, as easy as he is to get hit, he would be down in 4 rounds.

Cotto
I really dont see how anyone can take cotto here... and only reason i think they are is because boxing fans are a bit fickle... and cotto is undefeated and on fire right now where as mayorga is past it...
The only fighter that even RESEMBLED mayorga was torres... he was CONSTANTLY catching cotto with his wild shots when they were trading punches... and torres aint shit to mayorga.
Mayorga would come straight at cotto, and would be trading with him and would hurt cotto.... and unlike torres.. would have the ability and stamina to finish him off.
Bad match up for cotto imo..

mayorga would have cotto backing up and trying to box intelligantly... like torres had him, but it wouldnt be enough...
cottos only chance is to back up, pick his spots intelligantly and use his jab.... even then, if he does that, i see mayorga getting the decision...
If cotto fights mayorga close enough to use his bodyshots to effect... mayorga WILL hurt him.

Unlike the Torres fight, Cotto would not be drained at 147, so the power shots would not hurt Cotto as easily as Torres. Second, you think that Cotto can't outbox Mayorga when he could outbox Shane Mosley? Your post just proves that Mayorga is one of your favorite fighters and that you would LIKE for him to win this way.

Torres also took that fight on short notice and is smaller then Mayorga and doesn't punch as hard.
The fight would be a war, I'd see Cotto going down for sure, but if he gets his body attack going. He could slow Mayorga enough.

Cotto not being drained against mayorga gets evened out with the fact that mayorga is bigger, and hits harder... then torres. :good
Dude... mosley is not mayorga... thats like saying... oh forrest could outbox mosley but he cant oubox mayorga (before they fought)
two COMPLETELY differant types of fighters to try and outbox... mayorga ACTUALLY makes it very difficult to outbox him at 147 (dude... spinks had hell doing it) and cotto trying to do imo loses him rounds.
And going by your avatar i can assume that cotto is one of your favorite fighters... ;)
i love cotto.. but he doesnt win this fight IMO. i have obviously been wrong before.. and will be wrong again... but i dont see the logic of picking cotto in this fantasy fight.
Kirk is making Mayorga look unbeatable at 147 lmao No... i think a prime mosley beats mayorga at 147, i think a prime trinidad probably still beats him, i think prime oscar vs prime mayorga... oscar still wins, let alone hearns, srl, and all other greats...
this is cotto we are talking about... and i think mayorga is a horrible match up for him...
i think you guys just overate cotto...

They think his chin is 10x better since he moved up. But they fail to realize his defense is still average.
LOL!
just look at what most of you are saying... you realise this is EXACTLY what was said before the forrest fights?

Mayorga by brutal TKO
They think his chin is 10x better since he moved up. But they fail to realize his defense is still average. lol...
in all seriousness... i love cotto, but i think people are making too easy and simple this fight, and i have no problem with that... cotto has earned his right to be on fire right now, but it really would be a great fight... and very close eather way.
I just think mayorga is a bad bad matchup for cotto...
people claim the drained excuse against torres... ok fine, but at the same time... mayorga is bigger, stronger, more powerful, has better stamina and is much more aggresive then torres.
but this is natural... guys get overated and underated based off where they are... and i accept that... but im just trying to inject some other arguments in here lol.

The Torres fight is a great thing to point out but nobody mentions how Torres took the fight on short notice!! Like Ive said before, Cotto would probably go down and would need to have a strong body attack going to slow Mayorga down. Mayorga could def hurt Cotto and put him down and end the fight.

Cotto definitely wouldn't KO Mayorga but I think he would win a UD. Nobody thought it was possible to KO Mayorga until he fought Tito and I guarantee you Tito hits harder than Cotto.

The only way Cotto stops Mayorga is a great body attack.
Which would probably be two nut shots after getting tagged.

but that is neather here nor there...

Well Spinks can't punch for shit. He can't make Mayorga respect him so Mayorga just walked through his punches and threw the kitchen sink at him. Cotto can make Mayorga respect him. No matter what you say about Mayorga's chin, his body is not made of iron. And Cotto punishes the body like no one in this division, which should definitely afect Mayorga's stamina and power throughout the fight.
