What does this do for his legacy?
The above is very possible, Alcine and the rest aren't going to give a fighter of Forrest's calibre much issue.

If he sweeps the division, gives Ike a rematch and wins convincingly I'd be willing to call his legacy pretty solid. That albatross isn't just going to go away for me on its own though.

If Forrest cleaned out 154, it would make him a hall of famer in my book. I'd like to see him avenge his loss to Mayorga and take on Spinks, Alcine, and Dzinziruk.

I'd like to see him knock Spinks head into next week, then get his ass kicked a third time by Mayorga.

Can Forrest make 147? I'd like to see him up against the top fighters in the welterweight division. 154 is not an interesting weightclass.

The two at 154 currently that I see giving him trouble are Dzinziruk or Spinks, those two could beat him and clearly depending. But he can also beat them all the same.

Well he's already beaten Mosely twice in his prime.
The rest of Welter aside from Floyd and Cotto is not even as good as some of the current 154 pounders, the chances of Floyd or Cotto fighting him are slim to none, even if he could make the weight, he's a nightmare for either.

He's beaten prime mosley twice, phillips, ike controversially, piccirillio and baldomir. Right now his resume is pretty solid, i consider him better than the likes of mancini, mcguigan and ramirez. If he beats two more champs, i say he should get in with ease.

I don't think so. McGuigan shouldn't even be in there. What Ramirez are you talking about? Jose Luis? He has to clean out the division and avenge the loss to Mayorga.

thats what i said beat two more champs, which woudl result in him cleaning the division. He doesnt have to avenge the mayorga defeats, there are many guys that didnt avenge losses. I think he would beat cory spinks easily, both are wicked boxers, except forrest has more ko power, which would result in him winning. I really dont see alcine beating him either.

He'd have a pretty good resume if he managed to clean out 154 - his is fairly solid as it is.
If he avenged vs. Mayorga, he would be much better off than he is now. Mayorga isn't quite washed-up...he did get embaressed by Trinidad and DLH, but that's just a case of class and styles make fights. After the Vargas fight I think he's got some left in the tank. All Mayorga was in his "prime" was stamina, power, and chin, and of those three things the only thing he seems to semi-lack nowadays is stamina.
Avenging the 2x Mayorga losses now would still mean quite a bit for Forrest's legacy.

There is a total of three losses to a total of two fighters to be avenged. :good

Beating Mayorga in impressive fashion would give Forrest instant notoriety. Spinks and Alcine are beatable. I still wouldn't call this a HOF career. He needs to beat another elite fighter before he gets that kind of love from me.

Im sorry but he has a win over mosley when shane mosley was #1 p4p. Not everyone in the hall of fame has a harry greb or muhammad ali resume. If he cleans 154, hes in the hall of fame.

Why are we forgetting that he arguably beat mayorga in the rematch.

Perhaps. I don't care about that in particular so much as I wanted to stress that there's two fighters he has unfinished business with - everybody was making it sound like wiping the slate clean with Mayorga would leave him spotless...
Forrest fought Ike with one hand, there is no need for a rematch. :good
He may have been "lucky" vs Quartey but he was "unlucky" against Mayorga II so it all evens out in the end.

IMO, Forrest would lose to Dzinziruk, Spinks and Alcine...

DLH will never take him on, and Dzinziruk will never leave Germany to fight him (not would Universum put him up against Forrest), so I fail to see how he could clear out the division if he can't face two of the other best fighters. It helps if he beats Spinks, Alcine and Julio, but even those seem doubtful to me at this point.
That said, if he does get and beat DLH or Spinks, it helps him considerably. I doubt anyone else at 154 will be remembered as a great fighter, so I'm not sure beating anyone else helps his legacy significantly.
i dont care if he doesnt avenge the mayorga losses, because everyone has that 1 guy that they cant beat, but the ike fight really bothers me...
I say he cleans up 154 if he can.... which id love to see him do, then give ike a rematch... and i still see that fight as 50/50

Well, with the politics in boxing, even if Forrest were able to beat all other title holders, it would still take him more then a fews months. I'm pretty sure all interest will be gone, not even sure if Ike will still be fighting in that much a time.
If Forrest wants to fight Ike, now is the time.

That's assuming that Quartey opts to keep fighting, and that Forrest is still a titleholder. Even then, it's likely that a rematch wouldn't take place till 2009, and given Ike's inactivity, it probably wouldn't mean as much as it once did.
Having stated that, Forrest can still earn his ticket to the IBHOF for sure by defeating Alcine or Spinks, or, optionally, by defeating some top-tier contenders like Simms, Williams (who I'm certain will come up to 154lbs sooner or later), et al. If he somehow is able to secure a fight with DLH, and beats him more convincingly than PBF did, that helps his cause, too...but I'm not holding my breath.
Still...any fighter who handles SSM as conclusively as the Viper did in their first fight is going to be given consideration for the HOF by the time his career is finished.

indeed drew... i agree with you. Hell if he just beats spinks to me he should go in, being a champion, and having beat mosley and spinks.. thats a good fucking career imo.
i was merely stating what id like to see him do... though i would want ike to win the rematch, but like you say... by then its a completely differant fight
and i doubt they will ever fight again... seems like ike retired?

Vernon Forest is grossly overated on this forum.
He sure has alot of fighting to do at 154 to accomplish the above noted objective.
In his attempt, a 38 year old Forest will eventually find out that it is well beyond his skills.
He is sure to disappoint all of his dilusional fans.
Meamwhile he can start with Mayorga, the guy who exposed him --- twice.
